UNDEFEATED Brunswick boxer Zac Dunn is poised to seize the vacant super middleweight crown next Friday in the first Commonwealth title fight in Melbourne for 28 years.

But it won’t be easy.

He’ll be up against England’s Liam “Cannonball” Cameron, a Sheffield scrapper who local fight game identities have dubbed “The Cocky Pommy” — and he only arrived on Friday!

On the numbers they’re fairly evenly matched with Dunn scoring 22 victories, 18 by knockout, and no losses and Cameron notching up 19 wins and four losses.

“I’m ready. I’m prepared. I’ve boxed around the world and had some first-class sparring partners to tune me up for this title,” Dunn said yesterday.

It also helps if you have Barry Michael, former world super featherweight champion managing your career.

Cameron’s trainer Chris Smedley came to the point: “He’s been a champion. He knows what it feels like — and he will again.”

Brian Amatruda, who is staging the fight through Big Time Boxing at Flemington’s Pavillion, rates Dunn as a world title contender and compares him with Jake LaMotta — The Raging Bull.

He also points out that boxing is as popular as ever in Melbourne with Friday’s event sold out in 24 hours.

Both boxers have faced off at Port Melbourne legend Mickey Hargraves’ Boxing Fit gym.

Hargreaves will be in Dunn’s corner on Friday night.
