Our planet seems to be getting smaller all the time but there remain countless locations which are just as untameable today as they were hundreds of years ago when people set out to explore the unknown. In addition to our limited knowledge of what lies at the bottom of our vast oceans, there are still more than a few islands scattered about these massive bodies of water which remain mysterious to us.
Of all the dangerous and remote locations on earth, islands stand out thanks to the fact they are not attached to any significant landmass. Furthermore, in the great expanses of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, islands can be hundreds if not thousands of kilometers from the nearest population center. Remote because they are so isolated away from major land masses, these islands are also dangerous for anyone visiting or wishing to set up a residence. Why? Some are only accessible by ship, meaning in an emergency you are going to have to wait at least several days for help. Other islands are home to dangerous animals, active volcanoes or susceptible to terrible weather. Finally, some of these remote locations remain home to tribes of indigenous people who still practice cannibalism or just want to be left alone.

Planet earth is made up of around 180,000 islands. Some of which are huge countries, and others that are tiny and unpopulated, that look like dots on a map. Well, it's usually these ones that most of us have never even heard about, that hold some seriously dark stories and unsolved mysteries.

6. Utila
The smallest of the Honduras Bay islands is Utila. Columbus mentions it in his ship’s log books during his fourth voyage. The island is a very popular backpacker destination and a favourite of divers. Which makes a lot of sense since this tiny island has twelve dive centres. It has beautiful white beaches and the world’s largest barrier reef outside of Australia. Oh ya, and if that’s not enough for you, you can swim with whale sharks there as well. If you are into that sort of thing. *You know the thing about a shark, he's got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye.* Oh..sorry.. Whale sharks are not really dangerous like the great white in Jaws as they feed on plankton, not us.
5. Staniel Cay
The Staniel Cay Island is located about 250 miles southeast of Florida in the Bahamas , roughly 75 miles south of Nassau. And it’s small. About 2 and half square miles. Have you ever seen the James Bond movie Thunderball from the sixties? It starred Sean Connery as Bond of course. Anyways parts of the movie were filmed at Thunderball Grotto, a nearby hollowed out island that has some pretty gnarly caves. That’s for all you spelunkers out there.
4. Saba
Saba Island is part of the Dutch Caribbean. It is affectionately known as the ‘unspoiled queen of the caribbean’. That’s so sweet. It’s is home to roughly 2000 folks who are from all over the world. Christopher Columbus apparently saw the island in 1493, but chickened out on landing there because the rocks looked ‘too dangerous’. No big beaches or touristy resorts on Saba, but you will find an active volcano, sweet!
3. Gavdos
Gavdos is the southernmost of the Greek islands. There’s less than fifty people that actually live on the island. How about this for you outdoorsy types, free camping! And for you types that love baring it all without fear of judgement or incarceration, extremely lax nudity laws! Gavdos is a favourite of backpackers as well as those who love to get naked. Did I mention their nudity laws are pretty non-existent? Well you can’t mention it enough. And you need to take a special ferry boat to get there.
2. Fernando De Noronha
The Fernando De Noronha is actually made up of a group of 21 small islands in the Atlantic Ocean about 220 miles off the coast of Brazil. It is said that the very best beach in the world can be found in these islands. Brazilians know their beaches, and soccer, and festivals, and waxes, so I’ll take their word on that. Only 420 tourists are allowed on the islands at any given time and it’s is also very pricey to go there.
1. Palmyra Atoll
The Palmyra Atoll is located in the Pacific Ocean almost due south of the Hawaiian Islands. Atoll means a ring shaped island chain. This chain is classified as unoccupied and is recognized as an unorganized incorporated territory by the U.S.government. Although it is considered unoccupied, there are 420 people who populate these islands. Excuse me...they are referred to as non-occupants. They are staff and scientists that work for different departments of the U.S government and for the Nature Conservancy. Now let all the conspiracy nuts….oops I mean theorists go crazy! No I don’t mean crazy as insane, I mean ,,well you know...aww..forget it.

Hello Everybody! Welcome back to a new series, ISLANDS OF EDEN 2, this is a map inspired by the first Island Of Eden we played. Made by Choo Choo's CCN build team, they did a fantastic job! In this map myself and Stampy will have to travel around all the different types of Islands in the world and collect different coloured blocks of wool to place in the monument, when all the wool has been collected the map is over!

Of all the dangerous and remote locations on earth, islands stand out thanks to the fact they are not attached to any significant landmass. Furthermore, in the great expanses of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans, islands can be hundreds if not thousands of kilometers from the nearest population center. Remote because they are so isolated away from major land masses, these islands are also dangerous for anyone visiting or wishing to set up a residence. Why? Some are only accessible by ship, meaning in an emergency you are going to have to wait at least several days for help. Other islands are home to dangerous animals, active volcanoes or susceptible to terrible weather. Finally, some of these remote locations remain home to tribes of indigenous people who still practice cannibalism or just want to be left alone.

The smallest of the Honduras Bay islands is Utila. Columbus mentions it in his ship’s log books during his fourth voyage. The island is a very popular backpacker destination and a favourite of divers. Which makes a lot of sense since this tiny island has twelve dive centres. It has beautiful white beaches and the world’s largest barrier reef outside of Australia. Oh ya, and if that’s not enough for you, you can swim with whale sharks there as well. If you are into that sort of thing. *You know the thing about a shark, he's got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eye.* Oh..sorry.. Whale sharks are not really dangerous like the great white in Jaws as they feed on plankton, not us.
5. Staniel Cay
The Staniel Cay Island is located about 250 miles southeast of Florida in the Bahamas , roughly 75 miles south of Nassau. And it’s small. About 2 and half square miles. Have you ever seen the James Bond movie Thunderball from the sixties? It starred Sean Connery as Bond of course. Anyways parts of the movie were filmed at Thunderball Grotto, a nearby hollowed out island that has some pretty gnarly caves. That’s for all you spelunkers out there.
4. Saba
Saba Island is part of the Dutch Caribbean. It is affectionately known as the ‘unspoiled queen of the caribbean’. That’s so sweet. It’s is home to roughly 2000 folks who are from all over the world. Christopher Columbus apparently saw the island in 1493, but chickened out on landing there because the rocks looked ‘too dangerous’. No big beaches or touristy resorts on Saba, but you will find an active volcano, sweet!
3. Gavdos
Gavdos is the southernmost of the Greek islands. There’s less than fifty people that actually live on the island. How about this for you outdoorsy types, free camping! And for you types that love baring it all without fear of judgement or incarceration, extremely lax nudity laws! Gavdos is a favourite of backpackers as well as those who love to get naked. Did I mention their nudity laws are pretty non-existent? Well you can’t mention it enough. And you need to take a special ferry boat to get there.
2. Fernando De Noronha
The Fernando De Noronha is actually made up of a group of 21 small islands in the Atlantic Ocean about 220 miles off the coast of Brazil. It is said that the very best beach in the world can be found in these islands. Brazilians know their beaches, and soccer, and festivals, and waxes, so I’ll take their word on that. Only 420 tourists are allowed on the islands at any given time and it’s is also very pricey to go there.
1. Palmyra Atoll
The Palmyra Atoll is located in the Pacific Ocean almost due south of the Hawaiian Islands. Atoll means a ring shaped island chain. This chain is classified as unoccupied and is recognized as an unorganized incorporated territory by the U.S.government. Although it is considered unoccupied, there are 420 people who populate these islands. Excuse me...they are referred to as non-occupants. They are staff and scientists that work for different departments of the U.S government and for the Nature Conservancy. Now let all the conspiracy nuts….oops I mean theorists go crazy! No I don’t mean crazy as insane, I mean ,,well you know...aww..forget it.

The contributors trace the renascence of the debate in the burst of cultural and political expression that has flowered in the past decade, with the rapid growth of local museums and memorials and the huge increase in popularity of distinctive Okinawan music and literature, as well as in political movements targeting both U.s. military bases and Japanese national policy on ecological, developmental, and equity grounds. Upon U.S. independence from Great Britain, the city continued to be an important port and manufacturing hub, as well as a center for education and culture. Through land reclamation and municipal annexation Boston has expanded beyond the original peninsula. Its rich history attracts many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone drawing over 20 million visitors per year. Boston's many firsts include the United States' first public school, Boston Latin School (1635), first subway system (1897) and the first public park in (1634).
The area's many colleges and universities make Boston an international center of higher education, including law, medicine, engineering, and business, and the city is considered to be a world leader in innovation and entrepreneurship. Boston's economic base also includes finance, professional and business services, biotechnology, information technology, and government activities. Households in the city claim the highest average rate of philanthropy in the United States; businesses and institutions rank among the top in the country for environmental sustainability and investment. The city has one of the highest costs of living in the United States, though it remains high on world livability rankings.
Boston's early European settlers had first called the area Trimountaine (after its "three mountains"—only traces of which remain today) but later renamed it Boston after Boston, Lincolnshire, England, the origin of several prominent colonists. The renaming, on September 7, 1630 (Old Style),[28][b] was by Puritan colonists from England who had moved over from Charlestown earlier that year in quest of fresh water. Their settlement was initially limited to the Shawmut Peninsula, at that time surrounded by the Massachusetts Bay and Charles River and connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus. The peninsula is known to have been inhabited as early as 5000 BC.
In 1629, the Massachusetts Bay Colony's first governor, John Winthrop, led the signing of the Cambridge Agreement.

Many of the crucial events of the American Revolution the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere's midnight ride, the battles of Lexington and Concord and Bunker Hill, the Siege of Boston, and many others occurred in or near Boston. After the Revolution, Boston's long seafaring tradition helped make it one of the world's wealthiest international ports, with the slave trade, rum, fish, salt, and tobacco being particularly important.
Boston was an early port of the Atlantic triangular slave trade in the New England colonies, but was soon overtaken by Salem, Massachusetts and Newport, Rhode Island. Eventually Boston became a center of the abolitionist movement. The city reacted strongly to the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850, contributing to President Franklin Pierce's attempt to make an example of Boston after the Anthony Burns Fugitive Slave Case.
In 1822 the citizens of Boston voted to change the official name from the "Town of Boston" to the "City of Boston", and on March 4, 1822 the people of Boston accepted the charter incorporating the City. At the time Boston was chartered as a city, the population was about 46,226, while the area of the city was only 4.7 square miles (12 km2).

Finally!!! Our time in the boatyard is nearing it’s end! With work on the bowsprit nearly wrapped up, we just have a few more days left before getting back out on the water sailing again! But first, we need to get Varuna ready to sail again… cleaning her up, reattaching the forestay, putting all the pieces back together and finishing off a few sewing projects. After that, we are free from the harbor and on our way back to the Channel Islands! It’s not all smooth sailing though, with little wind and a barnacle-covered bottom, we stop halfway to give the bottom a good scraping. Upon reaching Santa Cruz, we drop our new Rocna from the new bowsprit for the very first time, and enjoy a night back on the hook. THe next day, more trouble awaits.. This time, engine trouble. An awe-inspiring engineering feat, Dubai Palm Islands is definitely the largest artificial islands on earth. These Islands are three man made islands in the form of massive palm trees connected to the beaches of Dubai. The first island is the Palm Jumeirah, Jebel Ali Palm second and the third is the Palm Deira which is the biggest of them all. This artificial archipelago located off the coastline of United Arab Emirates in Persian Gulf.
Dubai islands project was commissioned by Sheikh Mohammed in an effort to maximize beachfront property. Dubai's palm tree-shaped resort island on land built from the sea will contribute 120 km of beaches. Aside from the construction of the ambitious expansion, there is also the problem of constructing a mini city, which consists of 4,500 high-end residential homes, miles of roads, luxurious hotels and many amenities that will require basic human resources including electricity, safe drinking water and many more. This enormous project will position Dubai as one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
I will tell you why these islands have appeared and that they must satisfy. Dubai is an emirate that open sea about 50 km (an estimate) and the sites required for building projects are on the beach. To view course and especially to "park" in front of the yacht's property or even assembly.
Well when the beach was not available, and demand persists, the beach had invented. And it appeared artificial islands. Hence so sophisticated forms of the islands: they had to provide a larger opening to the ocean.
This new concept quickly caught on. 'Only a' product 'high-end, the latest wrinkle in the most creative developers metropolis. A new source of land, location of the trick of the planet Earth! The job went, the two islands were settled immediately, with mixed development, spectacular, exorbitant, and finally in Dubai's specific style ... In parallel to the World archipelago started building and other projects are still on the drawing board Nakheel, developer. But crisis compels us to winter a little ...
Where is the dream of similar islands: In Lebanon, wants to build a cedar shaped islands, the symbol of this country. Russia wants to try an island / an archipelago in Black in Sochi at the 2014 Olympics, at least that is speaking through the past years. Also in Japan there are several large airports built on artificial islands.
The Palm Islands are artificial peninsulas constructed of sand dredged from the bottom of the Persian Gulf by the Belgian company Jan De Nul and the Dutch company Van Oord.
The sand is sprayed by the dredging ships, which are guided by DGPS, onto the required area in a process known as rain-bowing because of the arcs in the air when the sand is sprayed. The outer edge of each Palm's encircling crescent is a large rock breakwater. The breakwater of the Palm Jumeirah has over seven million tons of rock.
The Palm Islands are an artificial archipelago (islands) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Major commercial and residential infrastructures will be constructed by Nakheel Properties, a property developer in The UAE. The Belgian and Dutch dredging and marine contractors, Jan De Nul and Van Oord, some of the world's specialists in land reclamation, were hired to complete construction. The islands are the Palm Jumeirah, the Palm Jebel Ali and the Palm Deira.
Each settlement will be in the shape of a palm tree, topped with a crescent. The settlements will have a large number of residential, leisure and entertainment centers. The Palm Islands are located off the coast of The UAE in the Persian Gulf and will add 520 kilometers of beaches to the city of Dubai.
The first two islands will comprise of approximately 100 million cubic meters of rock and sand. The Palm Deira will be composed of approximately one billion cubic meters of rock and sand. All materials will be quarried in The UAE. Among the three islands, there will be over 100 luxury hotels, exclusive residential beach side villas and apartments, marinas, water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and health spas.
The creation of the Palm Jumeirah began in June 2001. Shortly after, the Palm Jebel Ali was announced and reclamation work began. The Palm Deira is planned to have a surface area of 46.35 square kilometers and was announced for development in October 2004.

Finally!!! Our time in the boatyard is nearing it’s end! With work on the bowsprit nearly wrapped up, we just have a few more days left before getting back out...
Finally!!! Our time in the boatyard is nearing it’s end! With work on the bowsprit nearly wrapped up, we just have a few more days left before getting back out on the water sailing again! But first, we need to get Varuna ready to sail again… cleaning her up, reattaching the forestay, putting all the pieces back together and finishing off a few sewing projects. After that, we are free from the harbor and on our way back to the Channel Islands!
It’s not all smooth sailing though, with little wind and a barnacle-covered bottom, we stop halfway to give the bottom a good scraping. Upon reaching Santa Cruz, we drop our new Rocna from the new bowsprit for the very first time, and enjoy a night back on the hook. THe next day, more trouble awaits.. This time, engine trouble. Ty squeezes into the locker and works on tightening our alternator belt.
It’s definitely an eventful and busy week for us, but we couldn’t be happier to be back out on the water, living on the hook!
