The Palace of the Parliament, Bucharest
The Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest is one of the largest buildings in the world, and by virtue of the materials used in its construction, the heaviest.
Construction on the Palace of the Parliament was begun by dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in 1984 and not considered finished until 1997, long after his demise (in fact there are still some parts still being completed). Costing over $6 million a year for heat and light, this monstrosity was designed to hold all government departments and ministries. It is now home to the Parliament of Romania, three museums, and an international conference center. A tour of the building is how we usually end our walking tours in Bucharest. You'll have an idea of just who Ceausescu was and why he chose to raze several neighborhoods of the city to build th...

Inside the WORLD’S LARGEST Parliament Building | Bucharest, Romania
Bucharest, Romania: A fascinating tour inside the world’s largest parliament building - the Romanian Palace of Parliament built under the rule of former dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu.
🇷🇴 You can see all of my ROMANIA videos here → https://bit.ly/mwt_romania
This parliament building in Bucharest Romania is a historical and spectacular place, no expense was spared in its construction and although groundbreaking was undertaken in the 1980’s it wasn’t properly finished until 1997, many years after the reign of Nicolae Ceaușescu was over.
It's the second largest administration building on the planet, has a value of over 3 billion US Dollars and features over 3,500 tonnes of crystal, some of which is displayed in its 480 chandeliers. Inside the architecture and design emulate a palace more than a...

World's 2nd Largest Building, Ceausescu's Romanian Palace of Parliament
Built in the 80's by the dictator and mentally disturbed Nicolae Ceausescu, located in Bucharest, Romania, the Palace has 1000 rooms and is a testament to ugly excessive architecture. Now available to tour, this is one tour to take to experience how 100,000 people built an edifice to glorify 1 person and the Communist party. So come and enjoy the tour of a building that is hardly used anymore but gives a sense to the silly grandeur and symbol of crazy government intentions gone wrong.

Palace of the Parliament - Bucharest, Romania
The Palace of Parliament (Romanian Palatul Parlamentului) in the Romanian capital Bucharest, formerly known as the "House of the People" (Casa Poporului), is one of the largest buildings in the world in terms of area. The centrally located palace is situated at the western end of the approximately three-kilometer-long Bulevardul Unirii. It is the seat of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies.
After the Pentagon, the Palace is the second largest administrative building in the world. The largest gallery of the building is 150 meters long and the largest hall is 16 meters high and 2200 m² in size. The construction costs are difficult to quantify, one estimate talks about 3.3 billion euros,[5] which corresponded to up to 40 percent of Romania's annual gross national product.

You'll have an idea of just who Ceausescu was and why he chose to raze several neighborhoods of the city to build this giant.

Inside the architecture and design emulate a palace more than a parliament and it’s certainly a sight to behold - whether looking at the Grand Hall, the majestic entranceways or the theatre contained within.
I popped in to enquire about tickets and ended up getting a place on the last tour of the day. The cost was fair but I’d recommend booking ahead if you want to take the same tour - you might not be as lucky with availability as I was. This is one of the most impressive buildings in Romania both inside and out - these days it’s way too big for its purpose but it stands in central Bucharest as a reminder of times gone by.

The construction employed 20,000 workers and - depending on the source - 400 to 700 architects for more than five years.
Stylistically, the Palace of Parliament is categorized as neoclassicism.
