Isla grande Panama (2009).
Isla Grande is a small island and corregimiento in Portobelo District, Colón Province, Panama, off the Caribbean coast. It had a population of 1,037 as of 2010. Its population as of 1990 was 626; its population as of 2000 was 1,055. During the right times of year, the water between the island and the mainland provides an excellent surfing environment. Most of the people found in the town are of African descent and trace it back to black African slaves and those known as Cimarrones.

The Isla Grande De Chiloé is located off the west coast of southern Chile in the Pacific Ocean. It features amazing timber-built churches, an undulating landscape and villages supported by posts. In the small village of Chacao there is a large wooden church one of more than a hundred and fifty that are scattered across the island. Two wooden towers with blue peaks flank the main entrance gate. Striking architecture that unites European design with that of this region. Everything is made of wood with not a single nail used. Fourteen of the churches have been designated as Unesco World Heritage sites since the year 2000. When in 1567 the Spaniard, Francisco De Ulloa, discovered the island, he founded Castro, its imposing cathedral having been built in 1906. It has two pointed towers on its façade and the main building is coloured salmon pink. The church’s interior contains brownish colours with circular wooden columns and a beautiful, carved altar. Castro is the island’s oldest town and also the capital of Chiloé Province. Along the waterfront are numerous colourful wooden houses on posts, the Palafitos. When viewed from the street, the houses look like normal buildings but from the coast it can be seen that they are supported by wooden posts. At high tide the fishermen are able to land by boat directly beneath the houses and at low tide the posts are exposed in full. Today the people of Chiloé live from agriculture and fishing and tourism is also becoming increasingly important.

Ilha Grande
Ilha Grande (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈiʎɐ ˈɡɾɐ̃dʒi] "Big Island") is an island located off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. The island, which is part of the municipality of Angra dos Reis, remains largely undeveloped. For almost a century it was closed by the Brazilian government to free movement or settlement because it first housed a leper colony and then a top-security prison. Cândido Mendes high-security prison housed some of the most dangerous prisoners within the Brazilian penal system. It was closed in 1994. The largest village on the island is called Vila do Abraão with approximately 1900 inhabitants.
The island, which is 193 km2 (75 sq mi) in area, is now a popular tourist destination that is noted for its scenic beauty, unspoilt tropical beaches, luxuriant vegetation and rugged landscape. The highest point is the 1,031 m (3,383 ft) Pico da Pedra D'Água. Most of its territory is within the Ilha Grande State Park. The remainder of the island is subject to stringent development restrictions.

In 1808, when the Portuguese Royal Court transferred itself from Portugal to Brazil, Rio de Janeiro became the chosen seat of the court of Queen Maria I of Portugal, who subsequently, in 1815, under the leadership of her son, the Prince Regent, and future King João VI of Portugal, raised Brazil to the dignity of a kingdom, within the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and Algarves. Rio stayed the capital of the pluricontinental Lusitanian monarchy until 1822, when the War of Brazilian Independence began. This is one of the few instances in history that the capital of a colonising country officially shifted to a city in one of its colonies. Rio de Janeiro subsequently served as the capital of the independent monarchy, the Empire of Brazil, until 1889, and then the capital of a republican Brazil until 1960 when the capital was transferred to Brasília.

Angra dos Reis
Angra dos Reis (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈɐ̃ɡɾɐ duʒ ˈʁejʃ]) is a Brazilian municipality located in the southern part of Rio de Janeiro state. It is located at an altitude of 6 meters and includes in its territory 365 offshore islands. It was discovered on January 6, 1502, but has been under continual settlement since 1556. Its population was estimated on 1 July 2009 to be 168,664 inhabitants.
It has an area of 816.3 km². The neighboring municipalities are Paraty, Rio Claro and Mangaratiba in Rio de Janeiro state, and Bananal and São José do Barreiro, which are adjacent in São Paulo state.
The municipality fell into decline after 1872 with the advent of railways. It came back into prominence in the 1920s when a railway extension connected it to the states of Minas Gerais and Goias, as a terminus for the transportation of agriculture production from these same two states. The railway extension, in meter gauge, still exists and is currently operated by the Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica company.

It has two pointed towers on its façade and the main building is coloured salmon pink. The church’s interior contains brownish colours with circular wooden columns and a beautiful, carved altar. Castro is the island’s oldest town and also the capital of Chiloé Province. Along the waterfront are numerous colourful wooden houses on posts, the Palafitos. When viewed from the street, the houses look like normal buildings but from the coast it can be seen that they are supported by wooden posts. At high tide the fishermen are able to land by boat directly beneath the houses and at low tide the posts are exposed in full. Today the people of Chiloé live from agriculture and fishing and tourism is also becoming increasingly important.

When viewed from the street, the houses look like normal buildings but from the coast it can be seen that they are supported by wooden posts. At high tide the fishermen are able to land by boat directly beneath the houses and at low tide the posts are exposed in full. Today the people of Chiloé live from agriculture and fishing and tourism is also becoming increasingly important.

La isla Grande (en portugués: Ilha Grande) es una isla de Brasil situada en la bahía del mismo nombre, frente a la costa del estado de Río de Janeiro. Forma parte del municipio de Angra dos Reis.
Su principal área urbana es la Vila do Abraão, con cerca de 3.000 habitantes, conocida como la «capital» de la isla.
Su actividad económica gira en torno a la pesca y, más recientemente, al turismo.

The Isla Grande De Chiloé is located off the west coast of southern Chile in the Pacific Ocean. It features amazing timber-built churches, an undulating landscape and villages supported by posts. In the small village of Chacao there is a large wooden church one of more than a hundred and fifty that are scattered across the island. Two wooden towers with blue peaks flank the main entrance gate. Striking architecture that unites European design with that of this region. Everything is made of wood with not a single nail used. Fourteen of the churches have been designated as Unesco World Heritage sites since the year 2000. When in 1567 the Spaniard, Francisco De Ulloa, discovered the island, he founded Castro, its imposing cathedral having been built in 1906. It has two pointed towers on its façade and the main building is coloured salmon pink. The church’s interior contains brownish colours with circular wooden columns and a beautiful, carved altar. Castro is the island’s oldest town and also the capital of Chiloé Province. Along the waterfront are numerous colourful wooden houses on posts, the Palafitos. When viewed from the street, the houses look like normal buildings but from the coast it can be seen that they are supported by wooden posts. At high tide the fishermen are able to land by boat directly beneath the houses and at low tide the posts are exposed in full. Today the people of Chiloé live from agriculture and fishing and tourism is also becoming increasingly important.
