5 shower designs for you to consider

Showers

We used to have two shower designs to choose from. One was the standard shower screen enclosure. The other was the shower in the bath. Times have changed. New shower screens; wet rooms; and custom showers make it easy to customise your bathroom renovation. Whether your bathroom is large or small, these five shower designs can transform it from an ordinary bathroom to a beautiful, spacious feeling bathroom.

Curved Shower Screens

How do you create a stylish shower enclosure in a small space? One way to do it is to install a curved shower screen. Curved shower screens are commercially available. They cost a little more than standard shower screens, but won't break the bank. The curved door gives the bathroom a more stylish appearance and does not feel cramped when you're showering. It takes up space you wouldn't be using and the clear screen makes you feel like you're not in a shower "enclosure."

Stepless Shower Enclosures

Traditional shower enclosures had steps to keep water from leaking out of the shower. Stepless shower enclosures were originally designed for wheelchairs, but bathroom designers are now recommending them for everyone. A stepless enclosure often has a linear drainage grate across the shower just inside the door.

A linear grate requires extra plumbing. If that's outside your budget, you can also find shower screens with almost undetectable bottom lips that keep water from flowing onto the floor outside the shower enclosure. You still get the stepless look, but don't have to pay for the extra plumbing.

Wet Rooms

A wet room is a bathroom without a shower enclosure. Wet rooms are ideal for small bathrooms. When combined with a wall mounted toilet, even the smallest ensuite bathroom can feel like a spacious spa.

If you have a larger bathroom, the position of your shower is important. You want to have your towels on hand, but you don't want them to get wet. A ceiling mounted shower head can help. Add a heated towel rack outside of the shower area and enjoy a relaxing shower without feeling like you're in an enclosed space.

Doorless Shower Enclosures

You want a shower screen, but you don't want a shower enclosure with a door. Shower screen suppliers can make clear glass screens any size you like. The screen can be just wide enough to prevent water from splashing onto your toilet or vanity.

This can also be a great solution for showers in baths. The shower screen prevents water from splashing, but you don't have an enclosed feeling when you're in the shower and the clear glass makes the room feel larger.

A shower screen is not a necessity. If your room is large enough, you can build a wall. It can be a feature wall or act as a "frame" for a brightly tiled wall in your shower area.

Custom Made Shower Enclosures

Shower screen suppliers can sell you a wide variety of shower screens, but if you are looking for something different, they can also custom-make your shower screen. For example, you might want to create a low feature wall. They can make a clear, toughened glass screen of any size for you and will have the hardware needed to secure it.

Having the opportunity to have your shower screen or enclosure custom-made gives you unlimited bathroom renovation possibilities. Your shower screen can even run the length of the room if you like. If you like the wet room look, but prefer a shower enclosure, you can have it.
