The Bodhi Tree (Sanskrit: बोधि) was a large and very old sacred fig tree (Ficus religiosa) located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India, under which Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher later known as Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment (Bodhi means awakening or enlightenment). In religious iconography, the Bodhi tree is recognizable by its heart-shaped leaves, which are usually prominently displayed. It is also known as Bo (from Sinhalese: Bo) and "peepal tree" in Nepal and Bhutan,
The term "Bodhi Tree" is also widely applied to currently existing trees, particularly the Sacred Fig (Ficus religiosa) growing at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, which is a direct descendant planted in 288 BC from the original specimen. This tree is a frequent destination for pilgrims, being the most important of the four main Buddhist pilgrimage sites. Other holy Bodhi trees which have a great significance in the history of Buddhism are the Anandabodhi tree in Sravasti and the Bodhi tree in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. Both are believed to have been propagated from the original Bodhi tree. Bodhi trees are planted in close proximity to every Buddhist monastery.

Sifu Terry Hodgkinson aka "wandering ninja" heads next to sacred Bodh Gaya. This is the place where Buddha sat under the Bodhi tree and would not move until he achieved enlightenment. IN PART ONE: "After spending a week in and around Pelling, Sikkim it was time to move on. The only problem with that was the electricity had been out for the past 3 days in neighbouring town Geyzing, where the train ticket office was located. On the forth day of the power outage decided to go anyways as I heard first thing in the morning they had power for a limited amount of time. My video starts out showing that when the power went out how they worked hard on getting extension cord after extension cord hooked up to an office that had back up power...just for me! When I recorded it they asked me not to as ...
In Part Two of my India travel video guide, I travel to Bodhgaya, one of the most sacred places in all of the Buddhist religion. It was at this location 2,500 years ago that a young Prince Siddhartha sat under a fig tree, meditated and found enlightenment, thus becoming the Buddha. I start off by visiting the many temples that have been built by various Buddhists from around the world, including temples dedicated to Buddhists living in China, Japan, Tibet and Nepal. I then visit the Tergar Monastery, one of the largest Buddhist complexes in the region, which is a short walk from the main road. I then head to the sacred Mahabodhi Temple complex in the center of town. At sunset it is a scenic, peaceful time to explore the grounds, which include a large monument built at the Bodhi Tree itse...

In Part One of my India travel video guide, I begin my travels in India with Calcutta (Kolkata). India had long been on my bucket list of countries to travel to in the world, and in April, 2013, I finally made it there, starting with Calcutta, with no better reason than the fact was I knew so little about that part of the country. Calcutta was once the capital of the British Empire in India, and today it's home to over 14 million people, which means the city itself is a crowded, dense, loud, but endlessly fascinating place to explore. In this video I explore the alleyways and grand buildings that make up B.B.D. Bagh, the area where the city was founded. After checking out a parade (a very common occurrence I was to later learn) and grabbing a roadside cup of chai, I stop at the home of f...

The Bodhi Tree is a spiritual tree and landmark to the Buddhists who describe the integrity of the tree as one which they water to help nourish and in return, the tree nourishes them. Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization. Bodhi Tree Temple (The Sri Maha Bodhiya), is the second most sacred place in Sri Lanka, after the Sri Dalada Maligawa, or Temple of the Tooth, in Kandy. The Bodhi Tree is allegedly a cutting from the original Bodhi tree under which the Buddha gained enlightenment, and has been continuously guarded for over 2000 years, making it the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world. The temple complex is surrounded by walls, and is quite busy with monks and worshipers. Baobab Tree, Adansonia Travel Video - Adansonia is a genus of nine species of tree, including six native to Madagascar, two native to mainland Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, and one native to Australia. One of the mainland African species also occurs on Madagascar, but it is not a native of that island, and was introduced in ancient times to south Asia and during the colonial era to the Caribbean. It is also present in the island of Cape Verde.[2] The ninth species was described in 2012, incorporating upland populations of southern and eastern Africa.[3] A typical common name is baobab. The generic name honours Michel Adanson, the French naturalist and explorer who described Adansonia digitata. Adansonias reach heights of 5 to 30 m (16 to 98 ft) and have trunk diameters of 7 to 11 m (...

In March 2013, the Triratna Buddhist Order held its International Convention in Bodh Gaya in the north eastern Indian state of Bihar. Order members walked together each morning to meet under the bodhi tree at the spot where the Buddha is said to have gained Enlightenment more than 2,500 years ago. Pilgrims from all over the world come there every day to pay their respects in their own ways. I took a small compact camera with me, and, finding its video mode was pretty good, shot a few sequences which I've put together to give an impression of the place. Technical stuff, for those who are interested: Camera: Sony RX100 (all shots handheld) Editing: Pinnacle Studio16

A 20 minute illustrated talk on the significance of the Full Moon Day in December. That was the day the Arahat nun Sanghamittā brought the Bodhi Tree to Sri Lanka, which is still there today, and established the nuns' (bhikkhuni) order in the country.
Very fitting and auspicious that Venerable Bhante Sujatha Maha Thera,Chief Monk & Abbot of Blue Lotus Buddhist Temple, Woodstock, Chicago, IL, USA, conducted Blessings and Healing & Gratitude Meditation at the Bodhi Tree at Sri Lanka Buddhist Temple, Sentul on 22nd September the final evening at the conclusion of Bhante's 2016 Dhamma Tour of Malaysia. May suffering beings be suffering free, the fear-struct fearless be; may grieving ones shed all grief, may all beings find peace and relief.
Searching for truth to hold onto
Your looking for a reason
So much confusion, the world is crying out
It's time for me to speak aloud
I will never be silent, can never be tamed
I will always speak Your name
Chorus:
You invade my soul
Lord take control
I'm coming back, coming back to
(2x)
Throw away your sadness and let it go
Let the oil of gladness take control
Give Him your burdens, cast your cares
He died for you, He'll always be there
Chorus
You, your always there
I remember you, you remember me
I live in You
Holy are you, worthy are you
Your worthy of the praise I bring to You
I lift my voice to worship You
Then you come, then you come
You invade my soul, yeah you take control
Im coming back, coming back
