Subaru is set to take on full-sized seven-seat SUVs such as the Mazda CX-9 and Toyota Kluger with its largest car yet.
The brand unveiled its VIZIV-7 concept car at this week's LA motor show, a machine that points to a new model set to go on sale in the US in 2018.

The production version will be a successor of sorts to the discontinued Subaru Tribeca, and the biggest car built by the Japanese marque.
Technical details are slim. It's likely the model will be powered by a turbocharged engine that drives all four wheels, and that the car will feature next-generation Subaru EyeSight safety tech that builds on its current suite of driver aids.
The car looks significantly larger than Subaru's last VIZIV - or "vision for innovation" - concept car, which pointed to a new Forester SUV at the 2015 Tokyo motor show.
Subaru says the new concept expresses core brand values such as safety, dependability and that ability to handle off-road motoring.
Subaru executive Takeshi Tachimori says "we know customers in this segment want a full-sized vehicle and the next three-row from Subaru will be the biggest Subaru vehicle ever".

Oh god, if you are going to take aim at least offer something better looking than the putrid Kruger. Alas Toybaru share stylists.
Calm down Mr Majestyk, nobody ever bought a Subaru because of it's styling, you buy a Subaru in spite of it's styling. It's hard baked into Subaru DNA. The VIZIV would be no exception. It's just another example of slavish adherence to US market tastes. Buyers may appreciate the engineering.
Just what we all need, another tall-boy SUV D'uh! Subaru ought to be refurbishing their model range, giving all existing models some pizazz and beefing up engine performance; every Subey I've ever owned has been lacking in torque. All Subaru's should be turbocharged, a mild tune for the mum's 'n dad's models and performance tune for the likes of Rex and STI. The world doesn't need another tall-boy, particularly if it will be underdone in the engine performance department, that's one thing that killed Tribeca.
It is a whole in the Subaru lineup all the same and worth waiting to see what they come up with. Subaru does have some great vehicles.
Toyota/Hyundai/Kia/Mazda must be happy with this styling exercise.
Looks like the US dealer network now has control of product planning at Subaru!
