Senior UX Designer

Alexa.com is a marketing technology subsidiary of Amazon.com and we are building the next generation of marketing analytics services. We are seeking a senior level UX designer to assume a leadership role in our organization and own the user experience for our entire service. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced designer to make a name for themselves within a growing company backed by Amazon.com. In this role, you will be the most senior member of the design team and will lead the evolution of the customer experience. By establishing the process, standards and personnel to build best in class user experiences, you will be the foundation from which Alexa.com will develop market-leading design capabilities. You thrive as part of a cross-functional team of start up proportions working in close partnership with team members from product management, data science and front-end development.

Core responsibilities include:
  • Owns and leads the design process from product thinking, to flows, to wireframes, to prototypes, to user testing, etc.
  • Applies best practices from the field of user experience and user research
  • Is a core contributor to product discovery process and assists in validating product ideas and designs
  • Creates the necessary design assets to specify requirements to the development team
  • Effectively designs interactions within the product, ranging from small feature iterations to larger, complex, greenfield experiences
  • Supports their assigned product development team on achievement of agile sprint goals, working closely with Product Managers and Scrum Masters to prepare designs for development
  • Applies an understanding of user analytics and KPIs to monitor the product’s performance and guide product evolution
  • Performs user research and customer discovery, such as interviews, observation sessions, and user tests, etc., synthesizes and shares their research to stakeholders
  • Incorporates insight from their research into product designs
  • Explores new ways of communicating product design concepts and supporting information to product stakeholders
  • Collaborates and critiques with fellow designers to ensure that the very best work possible is being released into the market
  • Manages internal and external design resources. Proactively mentor and develop other Designers.
Basic Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in interaction design, visual design, design research and user testing for software or web applications
  • Has acted as the design lead for multiple design projects, establishing the vision, instituting design process, leading brainstorming, managing execution and personnel
  • Has a strong portfolio that showcases successful design efforts in a case study format: contains clear articulation of the business objectives, customer problems, design challenges and the path to a successful design that was measured by quantifiable results
  • Has experience designing for value propositions fueled by big data, creating U/I that serves large sets of data and designing visualizations of the data that reveal meaningful insights
  • Has experience successfully executing in environments that focused on conversion, renewal and subscription (SaaS)
  • Thinks about the full context of the user experience including business challenges, user needs, and technological capabilities
  • Proficient using tools for pre-visualiztion, prototyping and spec creation (eg. Sketch, Invision, Omnigraffle, Adobe Creative Suite or similar)
  • Has proven experience working directly with internal or external clients to gather requirements, present work, and discuss feedback
  • Understands fundamentals of visual design
  • Formal study of user experience design
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of Alexa, its products, and its target customer
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Prior experience working with Agile software development process
  • Writes HTML and CSS
  • Experience using web analytics tools and services, exposure or familiarity with digital marketing and content marketing workflows

Senior Product Manager

For the role of Senior Product Manager, we are looking for business leaders with a successful track record serving as a product manager or marketing manager. Candidates must have direct experience using the tools and data that enable marketers and analysts to understand and reach their most lucrative customers. As the Senior Product Manager, you will apply your understanding of the customer and technology to identify valuable insights derived from our data and analytics. You will conceive intuitive and gratifying customer experiences and work with a team of designers and developers to serve them to our customers. Your understanding of the market and your valuation of opportunities will influence corporate strategy, planning and prioritization of product development efforts. Your ability to effectively drive development efforts can only be outdone only by your ability to deliver positive business outcomes with quantifiable results.

  • Define Vision And Customer Need:
  • Own and drive the customer strategy, tenets, long-term goals, and documentation
  • Use customer and market feedback, competitive analysis, and business metrics to inform direction

  • Product Portfolio Management:
  • Own and drive the product portfolio and roadmaps
  • Determine product and prototype plans based on thorough analysis of trade-offs and priorities

  • Product Planning & Development:
  • Define customer goals and business requirements for product release
  • Execute comfortably in an Agile environment; serve as the product owner in grooming sprints, writing stories and prioritizing features
  • Ensure implementation is aligned with product goals and requirements; make necessary adjustments
  • Act as customer proxy to test and measure against success criteria
  • Develop Go To Market (GTM) plan
  • Own the success of product development process
  • Launch:
  • Own the GTM plan and deliver results that ensure the customer and business goals are met in operational launch plans
  • Evaluate launch outcomes and reintegrate learning into the organization and product plan
  • Operate:
  • Monitor and respond to customer feedback
  • Continuously make operational improvements (e.g., improved metrics, automation, self- service)
  • Grow the business (e.g., new channels/geographies, new market segments, increased engagement from current customers), and/or optimized costs
  • Be the subject matter expert for Alexa tools and features
Basic Qualifications:
  • Either of the following degrees of experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in product management with increasing responsibility, including experience in SaaS product management
  • 5+ years of experience in digital marketing management with increasing responsibility, including experience in search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), content marketing, influencer marketing, content automation, campaign marketing, and e-commerce marketing, social media marketing, e-mail direct marketing or display advertising
  • Passionate self-starter, decisive and applies teamwork to move with speed to implement ideas
  • University degree required ideally in a technical or analytical discipline
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, tradeoffs and opportunistic new ideas with technical and non-technical employees
  • Adept at defining an entire customer experience, segmenting it into a achievable stages of effort, driving a sequences of releases the while delivering increasing levels of value along the way
  • Knows how to learn while building for continuous product improvement
  • Knows how to make the call and drive decisions when all the data isn’t there
  • Understand relevant digital media trends and their influence on user behaviors
  • Comfortable presenting in front of executive audiences

They will be the voice of the customer; equally comfortable talking tech with data scientists and front/middleware engineers, user experience with designers, copy and positioning with product marketers and strategy with executive leadership.
