The Department of Whatever: WA government voicemail fail

By David Allan-Petale

Technology can be baffling and frustrating sometimes.

But if the flustered voice message for the Department of Agriculture and Food's Buy West Eat Best program is anything to go by, public servants in WA are having a tough time.

"Please leave a message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible... yeeaaa...."

The woman's voice rattles through the usual boiler plate message information, then inexplicably tails off into a garble of sheer frustration.

Perhaps she was having a bad day? Or maybe that was the best take of several failed attempts to record the voicemail message prompt.

Whatever's the case, it sums up many people's feelings of calling up a government department and having to leave a message.

Buy West Eat Best is a food labelling program to support WA's local food industry in Western Australia, with logos assuring that you are buying food that has been grown, farmed, fished and produced in the state.
