Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain. It is located in the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal and Tibet. Its peak is 8,848 metres (29,029 ft) above sea level. It is not the furthest summit from the centre of the Earth. That honour goes to Mount Chimborazo, in the Andes. The international border between China (Tibet Autonomous Region) and Nepal runs across Everest's precise summit point. Its massif includes neighbouring peaks Lhotse, 8,516 m (27,940 ft); Nuptse, 7,855 m (25,771 ft) and Changtse, 7,580 m (24,870 ft).
In 1856, the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India established the first published height of Everest, then known as Peak XV, at 8,840 m (29,002 ft). The current official height of 8,848 m (29,029 ft) as recognised by China and Nepal was established by a 1955 Indian survey and subsequently confirmed by a Chinese survey in 1975. In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon a recommendation by Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India. Waugh named the mountain after his predecessor in the post, Sir George Everest, arguing that there were many local names, against the opinion of Everest.
Everest Base Camp is a term that is used to describe two base camps on opposite sides of Mount Everest. South Base Camp is in Nepal at an altitude of 5,364 metres (17,598 ft) (28°0′26″N 86°51′34″E / 28.00722°N 86.85944°E / 28.00722; 86.85944), and North Base Camp is in Tibet at 5,150 metres (16,900 ft) (28°8′29″N 86°51′5″E / 28.14139°N 86.85139°E / 28.14139; 86.85139 (North Base Camp)). These camps are rudimentary campsites on Mount Everest that are used by mountain climbers during their ascent and descent. South Base Camp is used when climbing via the southeast ridge, while North Base Camp is used when climbing via the northeast ridge.
Supplies are shipped to the South Base Camp by sherpas or porters, and with the help of animals, usually yaks. The North Base Camp has vehicle access (at least in the summer months). Climbers typically rest at base camp for several days for acclimatization to reduce the risks and severity of altitude sickness.

This is my trek from Lukla to Everest base camp. Including day hikes, we covered about 70+ miles over the 12 days up and down steep terrain at altitude. We flew into Lukla airport (what an experience!) and stayed at various tea houses along the way. We also hiked to Kala Patthar which has a nice view from afar of both EBC and Everest. Includes helicopter footage at the end. This was part of a medical group/physician group with CME credits/adventure medicine training from BioBio.
The ground was shaking from the earthquake and as soon as we saw people running we were running ourselves to save our lives STAY UPDATED on the Athlete page: https://www.facebook.com/jostgoforit For licensing/usage please contact licensing@viralhog.com

An amazing trip to Nepal & Mount Everest Base Camp, with World Expeditions Australia. A total trip of a life time, that was one of the hardest challenges we had ever faced! We went in October 2010 (20/10 - 8-/11), the weather was AMAZING... One night of rain and that was the first day!! This trip is a MUST DO and we highly recommend World Expeditions...
In Part 4 we fly the DeHavilland Twin Otter DHC-6 300 Ski Plane on an emergency mission from Sangboche Airport, VNSB at 12,300' (calling Sangboche an airport is a stretch) to Mount Everest Base Camp at 17,300'. Nip and tuck all the way!!!
In part 3 we take off from Lukla, Nepal (VNLK) , fly to the Mount Everest Base Camp to do some site seeing and return for another white knuckle landing at Lukla.

In the highest mountain
In the only fountain
In the Russian river
With you
Heard a million singing
For a new bell ringing
Set a world in motion
With you
There's a new generation
They've been sleeping all day
Long ago when tomorrow is
So the flow don't freeze up on this
Hope you know that tomorrow is
Still above you
Everybody's chasing
Everybody's facing
Everyone's in motion
With you
If you're chasing the morning
If you're sleeping all day
Long ago when tomorrow is
So the flow don't freeze up on this
Hope you know that tomorrow is
