Macedonia (i/ˌmæsᵻˈdoʊniə/ mas-i-DOH-nee-ə; Macedonian: Македонија, tr. Makedonija, IPA: [makɛˈdɔnija]), officially the Republic of Macedonia (Macedonian: Република Македонија , tr. Republika Makedonija), is a country located in the central Balkan peninsula in Southeast Europe. It is one of the successor states of the former Yugoslavia, from which it declared independence in 1991. It became a member of the United Nations in 1993, but, as a result of an ongoing dispute with Greece over use of the name Macedonia, it was admitted under the provisional description of "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" (Поранешна Југословенска Република Македонија, tr. Poranešna Jugoslovenska Republika Makedonija), abbreviated as FYROM.
A landlocked country, the Republic of Macedonia is bordered by Kosovo to the northwest, Serbia to the north, Bulgaria to the east, Greece to the south, and Albania to the west. It constitutes approximately the northwestern third of the larger geographical region of Macedonia, which also comprises the neighbouring parts of northern Greece and a smaller portion in southwestern Bulgaria. The country's capital is Skopje, with 506,926 inhabitants according to the 2002 census. Other cities include Bitola, Kumanovo, Prilep, Tetovo, Ohrid, Veles, Štip, Kočani, Gostivar, Kavadarci, and Strumica. It has over 50 lakes, plus sixteen mountains higher than 2,000 m (6,562 ft). Macedonia is a member of the UN and of the Council of Europe. Since December 2005 it has also been a candidate for joining the European Union and has applied for NATO membership.

As Muslims around the world begin preparing for a month of Ramadan fasting Thursday, many will be doing so in conditions increasingly harshened by climate change. In some countries, the situation has got so bad that activists are asking for the topic to be tackled at Friday prayers, one calling for religious scholars to "take ownership of environmental issues." "They [the Ulema] don’t seem to be doing it because they don’t seem to understand what is going on," Fazlun Khalid told Anadolu Agency this week. Across Asia, Africa and the Middle East, millions have started to perform their fasts for the Islamic holy month despite displacement from extreme weather, water shortages caused by drought and heat waves, and with food prices inflated by crop failures. Albanian/Serbo-Croat Albanian arms smugglers and Yugoslav troops have traded fire at several Kosovo border points, leaving at least four smugglers dead. There are also reports of clashes elsewhere in the rebellious province, where ethnic Albanians are fighting for independence from Serbia. The Kosovan authorities say they have confiscated large quantities of arms and ammunition following clashes in the border village of Vrbnica, 70 kilometres (45 miles) southwest of Pristina. There are a number of mountain passes that Albanian smugglers use to get arms across the border into Kosovo. Policing them from the air and on the ground is a hard task for the Yugoslav forces. When they spot suspected smugglers, the information is quickly relayed back and troops seal off the area. ...

To the United States, it’s also the newest open front in a fomenting regime change to establish its political, economy and military control. Macedonia's ethnic divide between Albanians and Macedonians came to a head on May 9, when an attack by Albanian gunmen in the town of Kumanovo left at least 18 people dead. Tour of concrete, weird buildings, monuments birds and bunkers
One man can live his life
Between grief and glory
Choosing a way to walk, no
Matter what it takes
And at the final step before
The greatest journey
The only he could see
the deeds he leaves behind
One nation starts to grow and
walk through the ages
Creating history that no man
ever doubt
Times when the dark was thick
And life was out of value
Lights of Democracy where
Bright around the place
And they lived in harmony
Changed the course of History
In the meantime troops of
Darkness
Start to gather round
Magnetized by your brightness
Land of living Gods
And they live in misery
Building walls, what irony!
They want to steal from
Macedonia
The Macedonia
Never gonna get you and
I believe that you know
That I 'll be killing what theyre dreaming
And I hope you ll understand
Time to see
Never let the lizard
To be near you
Because the lizard
Changes colors
And its trying to take in you
Then one day your son will
Rise, Father of Our Land
Leader and Protector of the
Macedonians
Troops of Lions on his side,
March against the walls
Crushing down the puppet leaders
and their dirty world
Even though your ages older
I can hear your laugh
Cause they want to live
Your Future
People with no past
But You re dressed in blue and white
Like the colours in your sky
