Any Major Radio Vol. 2

The second edition of Any Major Radio has a real radio feel: these songs aren’t just about radio, but sound like they ought to be on the radio.

I never really got the difference between FM and AM types of music on US radio, but I suppose some of these songs could be on the FM movie soundtrack. I particularly like the sequence from Track 5 to 12 on this mix; the whole thing is rather good to drive to.

Some of these songs here were requests from readers in comments to Any Major Radio Vol. 1 — I have a few more suggestions in hand in case the response to this mix indicates interest in a third volume.

As always, CD-R length, covers, PW in comments. (As I was posting this I spotted that the cover says “Vol. 1”. Oops.)

1. Theme – News Radio (1995)
2. The Smiths – Panic (1986)
3. Elvis Costello and The Attractions – Radio Radio (1978)
4. Talking Heads – Radio Head (1986)
5. The Ravyns – Raised On Radio (1984)
6. Bruce Springsteen – Radio Nowhere (2007)
7. Steve Earle – Satellite Radio (2007)
8. Dillard & Clark – The Radio Song (1968)
9. Don Williams – Listen To The Radio (1982)
10. Helen Reddy – Angie Baby (1975)
11. Dr. Hook – The Radio (1976)
12. The Velvet Underground – Rock & Roll (1970)
13. The Clash – Capital Radio One (1980)
14. Cheap Trick – On The Radio (1978)
15. Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers – Roadrunner (1977)
16. Tom Petty – The Last DJ (2002)
17. Rick Mathews – Playin’ On The Radio (1991)
18. The Sports – Who Listens To The Radio (1979)
19. The Blasters – Border Radio (1981)
20. Larry Graham and Graham Central Station – My Radio Sure Sounds Good To Me (1979)

    Hi Dude,
thanks for this and all the other wonderful mixes.

As you have a connection to Germany, how about Leinemanns 80s ‘Hit’ ‘Volldampfradio’ for Vol. 3 ?

    Dude,
I’ve been anticipating Vol. 2 since you posted the first one. It’s been in heavy rotation in my player and has become one of my favorite mix cds ever. I’ve given half a dozen copies to friends who all say they love it. I’m sure I’ll be doing the same with this one. For “people of a certain age” the radio listening experience is universal and associated with great memories. Many thanks for your efforts in compiling and sharing these mixes.

Brad, that really made my day. I love the idea that the first Radio mix (and perhaps others) was being circulated.

Another classic mix, Dude. Almost makes me miss my own radio days.

    Almost.

FM Radio by Dar Williams has to make volume 3.

    And AM Radio by Everclear…

Two volumes and you have missed (as a fun addition)

Reunion – Life Is A Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)

A fine companion piece to go with Vol 1. Always good to have Donna Summer’s track in the mix along with those other 70s tunes. Next time how about “The Spirit of Radio” by Rush – a rock classic to put hair on your chest (not your female readers obviously!). Anyway, great stuff & many thanks.

I love all your mixes and comps, your taste in music run close to mine. And I appreciate you sharing.

This one, however, isn’t accepting the PW when I attempt to enter…???

Just a heads up for your November “In Memorium”…you’d better say something about Billy Miller of Norton Records…he and Miriam Linna influenced so many people with Norton Records, Kicks Magazine and various RNR bands over the years…Do Not Forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very eclectic mix! for me, previously unknown/standout tracks were those by Steve Earle, Dillard & Clark, and Don Williams. I hadn’t heard the Clash track for years and years. thanks for another interesting mix!

“Roadrunner” is a must for the next vol.
