Joachim Rønning

Joachim Rønning is a Norwegian film director who usually works in a team with Espen Sandberg – both natives of Sandefjord, Norway. As a directing team, they go under the name of Roenberg (a combination of their surnames). They co-own one of Scandinavia's largest production companies for commercials called Motion Blur. In 2006 their feature film debut, Bandidas, starring Penélope Cruz and Salma Hayek, was released worldwide through EuropaCorp and Twentieth Century Fox. The film was written and produced by French filmmaker Luc Besson.

His 2012 film Kon-Tiki was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards. The duo will be directing the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Joachim (/ˈdʒoʊ.əkɪm/; "he whom Yahweh has set up", Hebrew: יְהוֹיָקִים Yəhôyāqîm, Greek Ἰωακείμ Iōākeím) was the husband of Saint Anne and the father of Mary the mother of Jesus, according to the Catholic, Orthodox, and Anglican traditions. The story of Joachim and Anne first appears in the apocryphal Gospel of James. Joachim and Anne are not mentioned in the Bible. His feast day is July 26.

In Christian tradition

Since the genealogies of Jesus in Matthew and Luke do not explicitly name either of Mary's parents, but apparently name two different fathers for Saint Joseph, many scholars from John of Damascus (8th century), and particularly Protestant scholars, argue that the genealogy in Luke is actually the family tree of Mary, and that Heli is her father. To resolve the problem of Joseph having two fathers - one descended from Solomon, son of David, one descended from Nathan (son of David), traditions from the 7th century specify that Heli was a first cousin of Joachim.

Espen Sandberg

Espen Sandberg (born 2 June 1971) is a Norwegian film director and advertising producer, well known to work with his childhood friend and director, Joachim Rønning on several projects such as Bandidas (2006), Max Manus: Man of War (2008), Kon-Tiki (2012) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017). He received a nomination at 85th Academy Awards as well as 70th Golden Globe Awards for Best Foreign Language Film for directing 2012 movie Kon-Tiki with Rønning.

Early life and career

Espen Sandberg was born in Sandefjord, Norway on 17 June 1971. Growing up in the 1980s, Espen Sandberg and his childhood friend Joachim Rønning spent their free time making short films with Joachim's dad's 30-pound home video camera, one of few burdens for being the first of the video generation.

In 1992 they both attended Stockholm Film School in Sweden, and graduated in 1994. Later that year they served their mandatory time in the military making propaganda films for the Royal Norwegian Army. In 1995 they founded their own company. They called it Roenberg, which is their last names put together. Early in 1996 they began directing commercials and music videos professionally in Oslo. Their extensive and award winning work in commercials in Scandinavia led to major international commissions such as ads for Airbus, Nintendo, Coca Cola, GE and Nokia. Sandberg and Rønning established themselves in the American market with their spots for Capital One, Labatt's and especially with their USA Today Super Bowl 2001 Viewer's Poll-winning spot Rex for Budweiser. Together with fellow Norwegian director, Harald Zwart, they own and run Motion Blur, a production house for commercials. Founded in 2002 it is now one of the largest and most award winning productions companies in Scandinavia.

Pirates of the Caribbean (pinball)

Pirates of the Caribbean is a pinball machine produced by Stern Pinball. It is based on the motion picture franchise of the same name and was advertised with the slogan "The Greatest Pinball Adventure Of All-Time!".

Dead Men Tell

Dead Men Tell is a 1941 mystery film starring Sidney Toler, who played Charlie Chan in 22 feature films, beginning with Charlie Chan in Honolulu (1938), and ending with The Trap (1946). The first 11 Charlie Chan films were produced by 20th Century Fox Studios, thereafter sold to Monogram Pictures.

Dead Men Tell was filmed in 1941 at Fox Studios B-unit, 1401 N. Western Ave., Hollywood, CA. Today this property is home to a large shopping center, and DeLuxe Full Spectrum Digital & Film Labs.

Plot

Charlie Chan (Sidney Toler) is engaged by an heir to solve a mystery on a boat. Miss Nodbury (Ethel Griffies) seeks a pirate treasure on Cocos Island, and the ship she uses is an old sailing ship used in the recent past as a museum of pirate lore by one of her relatives. For safety, she has split her map into four pieces, which she gave to some of the passengers whom she has invited to go along with her, but tells no one who they are. When she is given a fright and succumbs to her heart disease Chan must clear up the mystery while the ship is still at the dock.
