Q&A;: 95 or 98 fuel?

Drive Team
A Mazda MX-5 will run on 95 blended fuel or more. Just don't use an ethanol blend.

Q&A;: 95 or 98 fuel?

Drive Team

Shaun is wondering whether he should use 95 or 98 ron fuel in his 2008 Mazda MX-5.

Question

Greetings,

Can you please advise whether I can or should use 95 or 98 in my 2008 NC Mazda MX-5?

Many thanks,
Shaun

Answer

Hi Shaun,

The NC series Mazda MX-5 requires a 95RON (Research Octane Number) fuel or higher, so in other words you can use either blend but will be safe with 95. Other than a higher octane number, the biggest difference between 95 and 98 is that the latter features more cleaning agents.

It is also worth pointing out that Mazda does not recommend Ethanol blended fuels for the MX-5.
