Caroline Thomson Cabins

Cosy, cedar-clad cabins located in a shaded area within the Main Settlement. Each accommodates a maximum of 6 people with 1 double bed and 2 sets of bunks.

Cabins have a kitchenette (with microwave/electric combination oven and fridge), combined with living and sleeping area and a separate shower room and toilet. Communal BBQs and rugged landscape are at your doorstep and this is a great way to experience Rottnest Island.

Please note - Blankets and pillows are provided and other linen may be hired at least 48 hours prior to arrival. Televisions are not offered in the cabins and lack of reception means that they are not available for hire.

Governors Circle

Originally built for soldiers during WWII, including a former military hospital and Sergeants Mess, Governors Circle Cottages are perfect for schools and other groups.

There are nine charming, self-contained cottages, each comprising of 9, 13 or 18 (no TV) bed configurations, mainly in bunks. The larger cottage is access friendly with wheelchair ramps in place. Please be aware no linen or bath towels are supplied. All these items are available for hire by contacting Rottnest Island Reservations prior to your arrival. Please note that a credit card pre-authorisation of $500 will be required on check-in.

Disability Access
Rottnest Island has one cottage in Governors Circle that facilitates access for people with mobility impairment. For details, see Disabled Access Information.

Kingstown Dormitories

Kingstown is located 1km south of the Thomson Bay Main Jetty and was a focal point in Rottnest Islands WWII operations as it housed the Australian Army during wartime operations. Kingstown Barracks accommodation was opened for educational use in 1984/1985 and has become a much loved camp destination for many WA schools.

The former army barracks at Kingstown features 17 dormitory rooms, ideal for school and other groups. Some rooms have private ablutions and wheelchair facilities. Communal ablution facilities are available. Please check with Visitor Centre for opening times. Please be aware no linen or bath towels are provided. All these items are available for hire by contacting Rottnest Island Reservations prior to your arrival.

Kingstown Barracks houses the Rottnest Island Environmental Education Centre, an education and accommodation venue for schools, community groups and the general public. Some rooms cater for disabled guests. The Barracks is restricted to groups where participants are under 18 years with the exception of the period from mid December to mid February when all are welcome.

Please Note: Alcohol is not permitted within the dorms, hostel or grounds of Kingstown Barracks. Alcohol will not be delivered to Kingstown Barracks by the luggage crew. Bookings for the dormitories cannot be made online.

North Heritage Bungalows

A quick stroll from the Main Settlement and built in the 1920s, the Bungalows provide a simple and relaxing experience of Rottnest Island.

Being the original holiday accommodation available on the Island, the Bungalows have canvas sides and are most suited for summer use. Shower rooms and toilets have been added with due consideration to the important heritage background of the accommodation which is very different to the style of building usually associated with the term.

Bungalows are self-contained with a fully equipped kitchen and basic furnishings including lounge sofa, heater, linen, cutlery, crockery & gas BBQ. Please note beds are not made up on arrival. Televisions are not provided and cannot be hired due to the absence of reception.
