State media or state-owned media is media for mass communication which is "controlled financially and editorially by the state." These news outlets may be the sole media outlet or may exist in competition with corporate and non-corporate media.
State media is not to be confused with public-sector media, which is "funded directly or indirectly by the state, but over which the state does not have tight editorial control."
The term state media is primarily understood in contrast to corporate media, and occasionally non-corporate independent news, which has no direct control from any political party. Its content, according to some sources, is usually more prescriptive, telling the audience what to think, particularly as it is under no pressure to attract high ratings or generate advertising revenue and therefore may cater to the forces in control of the state as opposed to the forces in control of the corporation, as described in the propaganda model of the mass media. In more controlled regions, the state may censor content which it deems illegal, immoral or unfavourable to the government and likewise regulate any programming related to the media; therefore, it is not independent of the governing party. In this type of environment, journalists may be required to be members or affiliated with the ruling party, such as in the former Soviet Union or North Korea. Within countries that have high levels of government interference in the media, it may use the state press for propaganda purposes:
"There is no way to view the glossing over of the all deaths in the Middle East as anything but direct and indirect control of news coverage by the military industrial complex. Governments control who among journalists gets access to war zones, and they control the information given out there. They can censor far more insidiously with this power than they ever could by redacting controversial statements." - Dan Dicks Watch "The Beginning Of The End For The Mainstream Media!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnhQ63WfL0I Support independent media by rockin one of these limited edition "Investigate Bilderberg" T-Shirts! http://teespring.com/InvestigateBilderbergTees You can also support Press For Truth by becoming a PFT Patron at http://www.patreon.com/PressForTruth Shout out goes to some ...

ZHANG: President Barack Obama's inauguration address on Tuesday was broadcast live around the world. But for Chinese state media, some of his comments apparently hit too close to home. "Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions." As soon as the translator said the word "communism," the live broadcast from China's main propaganda station, CCTV, faded out the audio. It had already cut to a CCTV anchor by the time he said this: "To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history." Here's a clip of the live broadcast from CCTV—the commentator is apparently caught off guard: The text of Oba...

Pyongyang, North Korea (CNN) -- Defying warnings from the international community, North Korea launched a long-range rocket on Friday, but it broke apart before escaping the earth's atmosphere and fell into the sea, officials said. "It flew about a minute, and it flew into the ocean," said Noriyuki Shikata, a spokesman for Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda. He added that Japanese authorities "have not identified any negative impacts, so far," though he said the international ramifications could be significant. "This is something that we think is a regrettable development," he said. Joseph Cirincione, president of the global security foundation The Ploughshares Fund, told CNN that the launch's apparent failure "shows the weakness of the North Korea missile program" and suggests t...

Recorded on October 7, 2016 Fred Barnes and Stephen Hayes discuss the media’s role in the 2016 presidential election and how it has changed and become more biased in this election. They discuss what history will say about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump and how history has treated past US presidents. In addition, Barnes and Hayes discuss Obama’s legacy including Obamacare, the Iran nuclear deal, Guantanamo, and the lack of economic growth. Part of Obama’s legacy includes the rise of Trump and Clinton. Their rise is also caused by government policies, the poor economy, lack of faith in our government, and the shift to the left that this country has taken. Barnes summed up Obama’s presidency saying Obama presided over America’s retreat both internationally and domestically. Interested in m...

Paintball media has changed drastically over the past five years, largely due to the disappearance of individual filmmakers/photographers at the expense of corporate necessities and outreaches. In this video, we offer our perspective on the matter, noting that paintball media has changed, and commenting on why and how it evolved. Viewers are encouraged to discuss their opinions, thoughts, suggestions and hypotheses on the issue. We hope this video will create an open dialogue about the current state of paintball media. As a tribute to the vintage paintball videographers and photographers, here are links to some of their work. We strongly recommend taking a minute to look back on the roots of paintball media.
