A mother has been charged with child endangerment after her toddler drank vodka which she had hidden in his sippy cup.

It is believed US woman Andrea Mucciarone was trying to sneak the alcohol into a high school football game by putting it in her son's cup.

Her 23-month-old boy was taken to hospital after a relative noticed he could not stand up at the end of the game, according to the Star Beacon news site.

Staff at UH Conneaut Medical Centre contacted police and reported the incident after toddler was treated for ingesting alcohol.

Mucciarone pleaded not guilty to the charge and faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $US1,000 fine if she is found guilty.

The child is being cared for by a relative until the woman's case goes to court, according to the Star Beacon.
