Make yourself tizzy this summer with elegant embellishments

Studs, frills, a little lacing: designers are zooming in on the eye-catching power of artful embellishment.

Australians have never been shy of wearing colour, thank Ken Done, Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson, or more recently, Romance Was Born.

More contemporary designers with a global customer base, like Kym Ellery, Dion Lee, Christopher Esber and Toni Maticevski, know how to add a ruffle here, a zipper there to make an outfit pop.

Exaggerated shoulders, epaulettes and ruffles are back from the Dynasty dead. Ellery once again takes the cake for a fluffy blouse with her "Audacity" shirt ($1790).

Wear with "Rafael" flared pants ($990) for a 1970s-circa-2016 vibe.

You cannot escape the lace-up look this summer so to dress the part be sure to re-enrol in Girl Guides to learn how to granny knot like your badge depends on it.

Rihanna for Puma with her Fenty line loves the lace-up look on everything from oversized jumpers to tracksuit pants, so does Albus Lumen via the "Lolita Long Lace Up" dress ($990) and "Fringe" scarf ($150).

Pair with easy to wear footwear like Sandro Paris "Rita" slides ($520).

Studs are not just for toddlers who are learning to dress themselves, adidas made them mainstream years ago with the snap pants, now Ellery has transferred them onto everything including her "Demigod Pleat Side Studded" camisole ($1100).

Team with Sportmax "Sale" pants ($815) and statement Miu Miu "Black Embellished Velvet" heels ($1840) to complete the relaxed yet glitzy look.

Waist trainers made famous, or infamous, by the Kardashian sisters may have ushered in the resurgence of the corset-style belt.

Alex Perry was quick to the trend, as was Prada ($840) when teamed with Christopher Esber's "Lapel" dress ($599).
