They call her MC Taco Pollywaffle

By Georgina Connery

She may be miniature but MC Taco Pollywaffle has loads of swag and when she scoots about Canberra she holds her head high.

Her adoring owners, Sancho and Chris Murphy, said the picture entitled Lion King captures their pooch's "ain't no thing" attitude.

The couple joke about how people struggle to scoop up the long-bodied dachshund and each time are reminded of that iconic scene where Simba is presented to the pride in the Disney film.

Sancho said it was lucky judges of The Canberra Times "Me and My pet" photo competition couldn't smell what was going on in the moment Chris snapped the image in their backyard.

"She is pretty grotty, that day she had rolled in some possum poop," Sancho said. "She always seems to find things like that and go for it so we have to walk her on a short lead."

A constant during the seven years they have owned their pooch was the question: why the name?

"It's a long name for a long dog," Sancho said.

"I have this thing where I really like the chocolate bar Pollywaffles. I saw that they might discontinue them and I was like 'no, they are one of my favourites'. But I also love tacos and thought MC was pretty funny."

And the little dog has developed all the street cred her name allows spending plenty of time tottering around Civic where her owners work.

"She is really high-maintenance and a bit of a diva," Sancho said.

"She barks at everything because she's so small everything looks big to her. But at home her favourite things are sleeping, eating and belly rubs. "
