INTRO: Laos marks World Energy Day, Minister of Energy and Mines, Dr Khammany Inthirath who spoke to the media at the ministry on Monday ahead of World Energy Day which is marked today Thursday the 22nd that, the government considers supplying electricity as a top priority for socio-economic development and eradicating poverty with people enjoying better living conditions today than in the past.
STORY: Minister of Energy and Mines, Dr Khammany Inthirath spoke to the media at the ministry on Monday ahead of World Energy Day which is marked today Thursday the 22nd .
The Minister highlighted the use of electricity and energy in assisting the nation's development. He said, “Around 89 percent of households in the country now have access to electricity,”
The government also has a policy to develop the country into the ‘battery of Asean' due to its location and hydropower potential.
The minister also detailed advances in power generation capacity, noting that in 1995 the country had total electricity capacity of only 210 MW with 1.085 billion KWh of electricity produced but this had increased to 5,047 MW with 26.598 billion KWh today.
According to Dr Khammany , Most electricity in Laos is generated by hydropower, which is classified as renewable energy with less social and environment impacts.
The energy and mines sector has also focused on raising awareness on the safe use of electricity and its effectiveness for commercial production and better living. The sector is also continuing to supply sustainable energy with flexible pricing to assist householders and businesses.
The aim of World Energy Day, celebrated annually on October 22, is to send a positive signal worldwide highlighting the importance of choices society makes regarding energy policy, production and the environment.

In Scotland local governments have heavily invested in alternative energy, including tidal flows and waves, as the country prepares to eliminate its dependence on fossil fuels. On November 22, 2012 Astana was chosen by the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) as the venue to host EXPO-2017, which will focus on the theme "Future Energy".[1] The theme is aimed to concentrate on both the future of energy, but also on innovative, but practical energy solutions, and their global impact. EXPO-2017 will be the first time that a major international exhibition of this kind is coming to a country from the former Soviet Union. More than 100 countries and 10 international organizations are expected to participate. Around 2-3 million people are expected to visit the international pavilions from June to September 2017.[2]
25 hectares is planned for the pavilions of Expo 2017. The site has a convenient access to Astana’s city center, the international airport and the railway station. The Expo Site is also linked with a network of Kazakhstan’s inter-city roads to ensure a quick access from all the country.[2] Construction of the pavilions will begin April 2014 with 20 companies from Kazakhstan and 49 companies from around the globe.[3] Currently, designs are being considered for the grounds of Expo 2017 from architects in the UK, USA, Germany, Austria, Netherlands and China.[4] On April 24, 2014 the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in a capsule-laying ceremony of the Astana EXPO-2017 Exhibition center construction in Astana, which will be located near the Nazarbayev University.[5]
Astana submitted their registration bid to the BIE in December 2013 [6] as planned.[7]

The world’s first large-scale tidal energy farm will soon be installed off the Scottish coast.
Four turbines, measuring up to 16 meters tall with 8-meter-long blades will be installed off the northern coast of Scotland between Caithness and Orkney in the initial phase of the project.
“I am incredibly proud of Scotland’s role in leading the way in tackling climate change and investment in marine renewables is a hugely important part of this,” the Guardian quoted Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland as saying.
According to the Guardian, developer Atlantis Resources hopes to install a total of 269 turbines, a move that could provide energy for 175,000 homes.
According to the Scottish Government, the country holds one quarter of the Europe’s offshore wind resources.

World news or international news or even foreign coverage is the news media jargon for news from abroad, about a country or a global subject. For journalism, it is a branch that deals with news either sent by foreign correspondents or news agencies, or — more recently — information that is gathered or researched through distance communication technologies, such as telephone, satellite TV or the internet.
Although in most of the English-speaking world this field is not usually regarded as a specific specialization for journalists, it is so in nearly all the world. Particularly in the United States, there is a blurred distinction between world news and "national" news when they include directly the national government or national institutions, such as wars in which the US are involved or summits of multilateral organizations in which the US are a member.
Actually, at the birth of modern journalism, most news were actually foreign, as registered by the courants of the 17th century in West and Central Europe, such as the Daily Courant (England), the Nieuwe Tijudinger (Antwerp), the Relation (Strasbourg), the Avisa Relation oder Zeitung (Wolfenbüttel) and the Courante Uyt Italien, Duytsland & C. (Amsterdam). Since these papers were aimed at bankers and merchants, they brought mostly news from other markets, which usually meant other nations. In any case, it is worthy to remark that nation-states were still incipient in 17th-century Europe.

The world’s first large-scale tidal energy farm will soon be installed off the Scottish coast. Four turbines, measuring up to 16 meters tall with 8-meter-long blades will be installed off the northern coast of Scotland between Caithness and Orkney in the initial phase of the project. “I am incredibly proud of Scotland’s role in leading the way in tackling climate change and investment in marine renewables is a hugely important part of this,” the Guardian quoted Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland as saying. According to the Guardian, developer Atlantis Resources hopes to install a total of 269 turbines, a move that could provide energy for 175,000 homes. The Minister highlighted the use of electricity and energy in assisting the nation's development. He said, “Around 89 percent of households in the country now have access to electricity,”
The government also has a policy to develop the country into the ‘battery of Asean' due to its location and hydropower potential.
The minister also detailed advances in power generation capacity, noting that in 1995 the country had total electricity capacity of only 210 MW with 1.085 billion KWh of electricity produced but this had increased to 5,047 MW with 26.598 billion KWh today.
According to Dr Khammany , Most electricity in Laos is generated by hydropower, which is classified as renewable energy with less social and environment impacts.
The energy and mines sector has also focused on raising awareness on the safe use of electricity and its effectiveness for commercial production and better living. The sector is also continuing to supply sustainable energy with flexible pricing to assist householders and businesses.
The aim of World Energy Day, celebrated annually on October 22, is to send a positive signal worldwide highlighting the importance of choices society makes regarding energy policy, production and the environment.

EXPO-2017 will be the first time that a major international exhibition of this kind is coming to a country from the former Soviet Union. More than 100 countries and 10 international organizations are expected to participate. Around 2-3 million people are expected to visit the international pavilions from June to September 2017.[2]
25 hectares is planned for the pavilions of Expo 2017. The site has a convenient access to Astana’s city center, the international airport and the railway station. The Expo Site is also linked with a network of Kazakhstan’s inter-city roads to ensure a quick access from all the country.[2] Construction of the pavilions will begin April 2014 with 20 companies from Kazakhstan and 49 companies from around the globe.[3] Currently, designs are being considered for the grounds of Expo 2017 from architects in the UK, USA, Germany, Austria, Netherlands and China.[4] On April 24, 2014 the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev took part in a capsule-laying ceremony of the Astana EXPO-2017 Exhibition center construction in Astana, which will be located near the Nazarbayev University.[5]
Astana submitted their registration bid to the BIE in December 2013 [6] as planned.[7]

The world’s first large-scale tidal energy farm will soon be installed off the Scottish coast.
Four turbines, measuring up to 16 meters tall with 8-meter-long blades will be installed off the northern coast of Scotland between Caithness and Orkney in the initial phase of the project.
“I am incredibly proud of Scotland’s role in leading the way in tackling climate change and investment in marine renewables is a hugely important part of this,” the Guardian quoted Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland as saying.
According to the Guardian, developer Atlantis Resources hopes to install a total of 269 turbines, a move that could provide energy for 175,000 homes.
According to the Scottish Government, the country holds one quarter of the Europe’s offshore wind resources.
