South Korea ( listen), officially the Republic of Korea (Hangul: 대한민국; hanja: 大韓民國; RR: Daehanminguk, listen) and commonly referred to as Korea, is a sovereign state in East Asia, constituting the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. The name Korea is derived from the ancient Kingdom of Goguryeo, also known as Koryŏ. Highly urbanized at 92%, Koreans lead a distinctive urban lifestyle with half of them living in the Seoul Capital Area, the world's second largest city with over 25 million residents and a leading global city with the fourth largest economy, rated in 2016 as the world's most livable megacity and safest city to live in. Highly mountainous, Korea is a popular winter sport destination in Asia, hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics.
The earliest Korean pottery dates to 8000 BC, with three kingdoms flourishing at 1st century BC. One of them, Goguryeo, ruled Northeast China, parts of Russia and Mongolia under Gwanggaeto the Great. Since their unification into Silla and Balhae in the 7th century, Korea enjoyed over a millennium of relative tranquility under long lasting dynasties with innovations like Hangul, the unique alphabet created by Sejong the Great in 1446, enabling anyone to easily learn to read and write. Its rich and vibrant culture left 17 UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritages of Humanity, the third largest in the world, along with 12 World Heritage Sites. Korea was annexed by Imperial Japan in 1910 due to its strategic and central location, after whose surrender in 1945, it was divided into North and South Korea. A North Korean invasion lead to the Korean War (1950–53). Peace has since mostly continued with the two agreeing to work peacefully for reunification and the South solidifying peace as a regional power with the world's 10th largest defence budget and strong global alliances. In 2016, Korea was rated as the world's safest country to live in, with the lowest crime rate.
Suwon Station is a railway station in the city of Suwon, South Korea. The station was completely redeveloped in 2002 and 2003, and is now integrated with the Aekyung Shopping Mall(AK PLAZA). This station serves the national Gyeongbu Line and Line 1 of the Seoul subway, which runs services from Soyosan Station to the north to Sinchang to the south.
Suwon Station opened on January 1, 1905. On December 1, 1930, the narrow gauge Suryeo Line from Suwon to Yeoju opened. On August 6, 1937, the Suin Line from Suwon to Incheon began operating services. Over three decades later, on April 1, 1972, the Suryeo Line closed, though two years later, on December 31, 1975, the Seoul Subway began services to Suwon. The Suin Line and narrow gauge services were both terminated on January 1, 1996.
Suin Line will once again be connecting Suwon to Incheon from sometime in 2016.
Suwon Station shares a building with AK Plaza. The station itself is above ground (for all services) and underground (for metro services only). There are many stores and restaurants located in the station and outside of the station.
Walk and talk is a storytelling-technique used in filmmaking and television production in which a number of characters have a conversation en route. The most basic form of walk and talk involves a walking character that is then joined by another character. On their way to their destinations, the two talk. Variations include interruptions from other characters and walk and talk relay races, in which new characters join the group and one of the original characters leaves the conversation, while the remaining characters continue the walking and talking.
The technique is frequently used as a means of emphasizing how busy the characters are. It suggests that there is so much to do and so little time to do it in that even traveling time must be used to serve additional functions. It also serves the purposes of smoothing transitions from one location to another and adding visual interest to what might otherwise be static "talking heads" sequences. All three Law & Order series have used the technique to this purpose occasionally, plus all three shows in the CSI franchise use this frequently. Moreover, it has been used as a prominent story-enhancer in numerous episodes of The West Wing, The Bill, House M.D., Ugly Betty, and ER.
Korea, called Chosŏn (Korean: 조선; Hanja: 朝鮮) in North Korea and Hanguk (Korean: 한국; Hanja: 韓國) or Daehanminkuk (Korean: 대한민국; Hanja: 大韓民國) in South Korea, is an East Asian territory that is divided into two distinct sovereign states: North Korea, formally the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and South Korea, formally the Republic of Korea (ROK). Located on the Korean Peninsula, Korea is bordered by China to the northwest and Russia to the northeast. It is separated from Japan to the east by the Korea Strait and the Sea of Japan .
Korea emerged as a singular political entity after centuries of conflict among the Three Kingdoms of Korea, which were unified as Silla (57 BC – AD 935) and Balhae (AD 698 – 926). The united Silla was eventually succeeded by Goryeo in 935 at the end of the Later Three Kingdoms period. Goryeo, which gave name to the modern exonym "Korea", was a highly cultured state and created the Jikji in the 14th century. The invasions by the Mongol Empire in the 13th century, however, greatly weakened the nation, which forced it into vassalage. After the Yuan dynasty's collapse, severe political strife followed. Goryeo eventually fell to an uprising led by General Yi Seong-gye, who established Joseon in 1388.

This week's Walk and Talk is featuring one of my most frequented destinations: Suwon Station. So what's special about Suwon Station? Well, a lot. It might startle you to learn (I know it did me), that the station dates back to 1905. That's right, it's more than a century old. Sure the original building is long gone and we have a nice, new modern station in its place, but still, to think that there was rail service to Suwon for more than a century actually blows my mind. Come with me as I explore both the KORAIL and Subway portions of the station. I have been walking the entire Hwaseong (Brilliant Castle/ Fortress) is the wall surrounding the centre of Suwon, the provincial capital of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. You will also see from the video I am stopping by the old city centre where the local and elders go on their lives how they did for many years and keeping with the traditions. I walked through the market place and met many of the local and learned and enjoyed the way of life from them and participated and took on the requests and offers to sing and dance to traditions folk music also to indulge in traditional style of Korean BBQ pork and other meats in a live cooking and eating session. They also offered me some local brew which i has to politely refuse cause I had to drive and as I always travel alone. It is always a gre...

Take a tour of Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon, Korea, Republic of -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. South Korea boasts the Hwaseong Fortress which lies in the country's Suwon region. Built in the 1790's, this grand monument took about 2 and a half years to complete. Bricks were used in the construction of the fortress, which can be easily seen throughout the structure. The distinguishing features of Hwaseong Fortress are its defensive elements which include an arrow-launching platform, battlement, and crenelated parapets. Its basic layout and designs were based on a relatively new system in architecture known as the Silhak movement. The fortress embodies an amalgam of designs from the 3 countries of Korea, China and Japan, fused wit...
