Speaker Biography: Doris Kearns Goodwin, a former Harvard professor and Woodrow Wilson Fellow, is the author of several New York Times best-sellers, including "No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt," which was awarded the 1995 Pulitzer Prize in History, and her latest book, "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" (Simon & Schuster, 2005). She is the recipient of the Charles Frankel Prize and the Sara Josepha Hale Medal. She was the first woman journalist to enter the Red Sox locker room and has been a consultant and on air-person for PBS documentaries on Lyndon Johnson, the Kennedy family, Franklin Roosevelt, Abraham and Mary Lincoln, and Ken Burns' "The History of Baseball."

William Howard Taft
William Howard Taft (September 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930) was an American jurist and statesman who served as both the 27th President of the United States (1909–1913) and later the 10th Chief Justice of the United States (1921–1930). A leader during the Progressive Era, Taft and his conservative allies took control of the Republican Party away from Theodore Roosevelt and the liberals. He is the only person to have presided over both the executive and judicial branches of the United States federal government.
Before becoming President, Taft served as Solicitor General of the United States and as a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In 1900, President William McKinley appointed Taft Governor-General of the Philippines. In 1904, President Theodore Roosevelt appointed Taft Secretary of War in an effort to groom Taft, then his close political ally, into his handpicked presidential successor. Taft assumed a prominent role in problem solving, assuming on some occasions the role of acting Secretary of State, while declining repeated offers from Roosevelt to serve on the Supreme Court.

Doris Kearns Goodwin
Doris Kearns Goodwin (born January 4, 1943) is an American biographer, historian, and political commentator. She has authored biographies of several U.S. presidents, including Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream; The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys: An American Saga; No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II (which won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1995); Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln; and her most recent book, The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism.
Early life and education
Kearns was born Doris Helen Kearns in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Helen Witt (née Miller) and Michael Francis Aloysius Kearns. She has a sister, Jene Kearns. Her paternal grandparents were Irish immigrants. She grew up in Rockville Centre, New York. She attended Colby College in Maine, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta and Phi Beta Kappa, and was graduated magna cum laude in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship in 1964 to pursue doctoral studies. In 1968, she earned a Ph.D. in government from Harvard University, with a thesis titled "Prayer and Reapportionment: An Analysis of the Relationship between the Congress and the Court."

Daihatsu Taft
Daihatsu Taft (TAFT stands for Tough Almighty Fourwheeldrive Transport) is a four-wheel-drive vehicle built by Daihatsu between 1974 and 1984. It was also sold as the Daihatsu Wildcat and as the Daihatsu Scat in some markets. The Daihatsu Taft is similar to the Suzuki Jimny, although a bit larger, and was later replaced by the Daihatsu Rugger (also known as the Rocky or the Fourtrak).
The first Taft was the F10, introduced in 1974. It was equipped with a 1.0 L (958 cc) petrol engine and a four-speed transmission with a two-range transfer case. The F10 was available in short-wheel-base (SWB) softtop and hardtop versions.
In around 1977, the F10 was replaced with the F20 series with the 1.6 L (1587 cc) 12R petrol engine. Around the same time the F50 2.5 L DG diesel version was introduced. Both models featured an improved transmission and were available in SWB Softtop and Hardtop versions, either as four- or six-seaters. In 1979, trayback/ute versions of the F20 and F50 introduced as the F25 and F55 models. Around 1983, updated F20/F25 models were introduced with an optional Deluxe version and optional five-speed gearbox. At the same time the F50/F55 models where replaced with the F60/F65 with a 2.8 L DL diesel, with the same Deluxe model version and optional five-speed gearbox. In Europe, Giovanni Michelotti marketed a luxuriously equipped version of the Taft, a version echoed by the later Bertone Freeclimbers.

Dean Teaster reprises the role of "Digger" made famous by his father. This movie was created to offset many of the "Hillbilly" stereotypes often depicted with this area. The movie paints a picture of this beautiful mountain region that was settled by the overseas Celtic people. These settlers were full of rich traditions and a true grit that allowed them to survive and thrive during the rugged 1800's period of US History often shown in western films. This movie may well be the birth of a sub genre of the western known as "The Eastern." With a slight romantic edge this movie is chalked full of messages about love, hate, family, forgiveness, redemption and sacrifice. This film builds on a regional theme where conflict was often fought over family honor versus land as often depicted in westerns due to the gold rushes and land acquisitions and expansions. Being a lover of the western genre I think that we have told a story that will entertain many generations of people and with the re-opening of the "Ghost Town In The Sky" theme park we look forward to bright future built upon the past.
