Baker

A baker is someone who makes, bakes and sells breads, rolls, biscuits or cookies, and/or crackers using an oven or other concentrated heat source. Cakes and similar foods may also be produced, as the traditional boundaries between what is produced by a baker as opposed to a pastry chef have blurred in recent decades. The place where a baker works is called a bakery.

Origin

The first group of people to bake bread were ancient Egyptians, around 8000 BC. During the Middle Ages, it was common for each landlord to have a bakery, which was actually a public oven; housewives would bring dough that they had prepared to the baker, who would tend the oven and bake them into bread. As time went on, bakers would also sell their own goods, and in that some bakers acted dishonestly, tricks emerged: for example, a baker might have trap door(s) in the oven or other obscured areas, that would allow a hidden small boy or other apprentice to take off some of the dough brought in for baking. Then the dishonest baker would sell bread made with the stolen dough as their own. This practice and others eventually lead to the famous regulation known as Assize of Bread and Ale, which prescribed harsh penalties for bakers that were found cheating their clients or customers. As a safeguard against cheating, under-filled orders, or any appearance of impropriety, bakers commonly began to throw in one more loaf of bread; this tradition now exists in the phrase "baker's dozen", which is 13.

Black Betty

"Black Betty" (Roud 11668) is a 20th-century African-American work song often credited to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter as the author, though the earliest recordings are not by him. Some sources claim it is one of Lead Belly's many adaptations of earlier folk material; in this case an 18th-century marching cadence about a flintlock musket. There are numerous recorded versions, including a cappella, folk, and rock arrangements. The best known modern recordings are rock versions by Ram Jam, Tom Jones, and Spiderbait, all of which were hits.

Meaning and origin

The origin and meaning of the lyrics are subject to debate. Historically the "Black Betty" of the title may refer to the nickname given to a number of objects: a musket, a bottle of whisky, a whip, or a penitentiary transfer wagon.

Some sources claim the song is derived from an 18th-century marching cadence about a flint-lock musket with a black painted stock; the "bam-ba-lam" lyric referring to the sound of the gunfire. Soldiers in the field were said to be "hugging Black Betty". In this interpretation, the musket was superseded by its "child", a musket with an unpainted walnut stock known as a "Brown Bess".

Rock & Pop (Chilean radio)

Rock&Pop is a radio station located at 94.1 MHz on the FM dial in Santiago de Chile, member of the consortium radial Ibero Americana Radio Chile. His musical program line and consists mainly of independent rock, alternative rock and electronic music.

History

Their transmissions began in Santiago on December 1, 1992, under the auspices of the Chilean Company Communications, owner of Radio Cooperativa. The first song played was "It's My Life" by Dr. Alban. Before this debut was a sort of trial run in the city of Temuco, from October 1, 1992, at 93.5 FM. In this city remained local programming until January 1, 1998, when local facilities are closed and the signal began to receive direct from Santiago.

During the first months of life existed legal disputes with Argentina radius of the same name, founded in 1985, which did not reach higher, but there was speculation from the purchase of the radio by its namesake Argentina to a demand for the brand.

In the year 1995 was particularly interference in the "small Chilean rock boom" which was conceived during that time, the main promoter in your grill musical bands such as Los Tres, Lucybell, Los Tetas, Pánico, La Ley, among others. The success was such that his name was brought to television. The legendary Canal 2 Rock & Pop figures and content moved from radio to the small screen.
