Amber Rose on feminism, sexuality, her new Missguided campaign, and why she won’t grow her hair

AMBER Rose says she won’t grow out her famous peroxide blonde buzz cut, saying “this is me ... take it or leave it”.

The model and feminist campaigner, 32, said men often told her she should “probably grow my hair out”.

Her response? “I just tell them to go f ... themselves”.

“Like, why do you care about what I’m doing with my hair? I mean, they’re usually guys that I date,” Rose, the former girlfriend of rapper Kanye West, said.

“Sometimes I’ll date a guy and he’ll be like, ‘so why don’t you grow your hair out?’ Not necessarily telling me that he wants that but kind of like, ask the question.

“It’s like, I’ve had this (cut) for 14 years. This is me ... take it or leave it.”

The How To Be A Bad Bitch author is the newly announced face of British fashion site, Missguided.

She famously buried her feud with ex-boyfriend West and his wife Kim Kardashian, after a war of words between West, Rose and what seemed like the entire Kardashian family (read: Rose’s use of the hashtag #FingersInTheBootyA..Bitch and West’s inclusion of a naked wax figure resembling Rose in his controversial Famous video clip).

“I see you Amber”, West said during his speech on stage at the MTV VMAs in New York last month, cheekily referring to Rose who was in the audience (sporting Dior sunglasses and wearing a Tom Ford suit, no less).

So what is Rose’s advice to women who are dealing with bitchiness and slut-shaming?

“You have to understand that, like, not everyone is going to like you and that means you’re doing something right," Rose told News Corp Australia.

“If everyone loves you then you don’t stand for anything.

“You gotta really stand for something that you believe in ... and I take a lot of punches and I take a lot of criticism but I don’t give a s ... because I’m happy. I can’t make everyone happy.”

Rose revealed she mentors other female celebrities about “how to not care”.

“I love to help women ... I’m a feminist,” Rose said, speaking from New York.

“Even celebrity women call me and we talk and I help them not give a f ...

“It’s not easy at first but once you understand that you can tell someone until you’re blue in the face who you are, 9 out of 10 (times) they still won’t believe you and they’ll still criticise you anyway.

“So just do whatever the f ... you want.

“They will basically say, ‘could you please show me how to not give a f ...? How do you not care about what people say?’

“I got to a point where I’m just happy. Nothing bothers me. I don’t want negativity in my life.”

And for Rose, that means ignoring social media trolls.

“If you let the negative in and you start looking at all the negative magazines and blogs and tabloids ... that’s just negative energy you’re bringing into your life,” she said.

The former stripper has also reclaimed the word “slut” staging a “SlutWalk” in Los Angeles to empower women.

“I feel like as women, we get slut-shamed a lot, if we do something sexual with a man or another woman or a threesome or whatever we choose to do sexually, we get criticised for it and men don’t,” Rose said.

“Also, we shouldn’t always leave it up to the man to carry the condoms.

“We should know that we are able to protect ourselves as well. So I just encourage safe sex and being confident in who you are.”

Rose stars in Missguided’s sexy new campaign, sporting a body-con silver mini-dress with high neckline, a sleeved black dress with sheer panels, and a nude-coloured mesh bodysuit form her forthcoming line, Amber Rose x Missguided.

She sees fashion as a way to convey confidence and empowerment.

“It’s really being who you are, being confident in what you have on,” Rose said.

“It’s not necessarily a short skirt or cleavage. Sometimes I feel super-sexy in menswear.”
