O turismo na cidade de São Paulo destaca-se mais pelo turismo de negócios que pelo turismo recreativo. Grandes redes de hotéis cujo público-alvo é o corporativo estão instaladas na cidade e possuem filiais espalhadas em várias das suas centralidades. Possui entre 410[1] e 550 hotéis[2], disponibilizando ao visitante entre 42.000[3] e 50.000 quartos.
O turismo cultural, porém, também possui relevância para a cidade, especialmente quando se têm em vista os vários eventos internacionais que ocorrem na cidade (como a Bienal de Artes, a Mostra Internacional de Cinema e os vários espetáculos com celebridades estrangeiras que ocorrem normalmente apenas no eixo Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo). A cidade conta com uma média de um evento a cada seis minutos.
Apesar da vitalidade econômica, porém, o turismo é ainda uma área que revela as graves desigualdades sócio-econômicas presentes na cidade, visto que, segundo críticos e estudiosos, grande parte do circuito cultural e turístico da cidade exclui a própria população paulistana de usufruí-lo, visto que ele se encontra na região central metropolitana.
Em 2009, o turismo em São Paulo alcançou um novo recorde, recebendo 11,3 milhões de turistas durante o ano, sendo 9,7 milhões domésticos (turistas brasileiros) e 1,6 milhões de estrangeiros, os quais deixaram R$ 8,5 bilhões na cidade.[6] Em 2008, foram recebidos 11 milhões de turistas. Dos 9 milhões de turistas domésticos, 25% são paulistas, seguidos pelos mineiros. Entre os turistas estrangeiros, os norte-americanos e argentinos são os que mais visitam a cidade de São Paulo.
Todos os anos, São Paulo recebe a decoração de Natal. Turistas de diversas partes do mundo visitam a cidade para passar as festas de final de ano.
De acordo com o prefeito Gilberto Kassab, em 2008, foram investidos R$ 5 milhões na decoração natalina, com 2,3 milhões de pontos de luz, tornando-se o natal mais iluminado do mundo. São diversos tipos de enfeites que estão presentes em várias avenidas, prédios, pontes e pontos turísticos da metrópole, desde os subúrbios até a região central.
São na Avenida Paulista, Teatro Municipal, Sede da Prefeitura, Vale do Anhangabaú, Parque do Ibirapuera, Ponte Octávio Frias de Oliveira, Represa de Guarapiranga, Estádio do Pacaembu, Avenida Robert Kennedy, Radial Leste, entre muitos outros lugares que receberam todos os preparativos para as festas.
Árvores de natal do Ibirapuera, da Ponte Octávio Frias de Oliveira e da represa de Guarapiranga, são as três maiores árvores natalinas da cidade, com 70, 100 e 30 metros de altura. Filmes relacionados à cidade que passam em importantes marcos históricos e turísticos da cidade. Apenas na Avenida Paulista são diversos decorativos em edifícios, nas calçadas, no canteiro central e ao longo da via.

Paulista Avenue (Avenida Paulista in Portuguese, Paulista being the gentilic for those born in São Paulo state) is one of the most important avenues in São Paulo, Brazil. The 2.8 kilometre thoroughfare is notable for headquartering a large number of financial and cultural institutions, as well as being home to an extensive shopping area and to Latin America's most comprehensive fine-art museum, MASP.[1] Since the 1960s, the avenue has been identified as one of the main business centers in the city. Being one of the highest points in São Paulo, it is distinctively clustered with radio and TV stations antennae, such as Gazeta's. The road is served by a subway line and many major bus routes. The avenue, which was inaugurated in December 1891, is generally regarded as the most expensive real estate anywhere in Latin America.
Once a residential neighbourhood thoroughfare flanked by lavishly ornate mansions with Arabesque and European themes of the city's coffee barons and industry entrepreneurs such as the Matarazzo family, the avenue has undergone a massive verticalization from the 1950s on. Impressive Neo-Classic, Hindu-style and Middle Eastern architectonic structures were then illegally torn down overnight as a precaution against fiscalization or resistance from the population, basically students and artists, who would dare to promote protests during a military-ruled area. The only mansion worth visiting today is Casa das Rosas, near Praça Osvaldo Cruz in the very beginning of the long avenue. It was turned into a cultural center in the late 1980s. The house has oil/hydraulic heat radiators, a luxury only the millionaire could afford and something that could be of good use on very cold and damp nights and mornings of past São Paulo winters. A wide garden with rose specimens planted in the turn of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries still refreshes the senses of passersby of a polluted city that lacks recreational parks for all of its inhabitants.

In this travel vlog we are enjoying the live music performance on a Sunday afternoon visit to Paulista Avenue which is considered one of the most important avenues and is located in Sao Paulo Brazil.
During my Brazil vacation I discovered that the 2.8 kilometre thoroughfare which closes for vehicular traffic every Sunday is the headquarter for a large number of financial and cultural institutions, as well as being home to an extensive shopping area. Paulista Avenue is definitely one of the things to do in Brazil during any trip to Brazil.
It's also home to South America's most comprehensive fine-art museum, MASP.[2] and since the 1960s, Paulista avenue has been identified as one of the main business centers in the city of Sao Paulo Brazil.

A 22-year-old Brazilian man was arrested on Friday, April 1, after footage of him throwing a rock at the head of a 61-year-old man, knocking him unconscious, was passed to police, Brazilian media reported.
The footage shows the attacker, named by Midiamedia as Igor Eduardo Silva Taques, passing the victim on the sidewalk of Avenida Coronel Antonino, a central thoroughfare in Campo Grande. He then turns and throws a rock, striking the back of the victim’s head, and knocking him to the ground.

"Before Halleluya began was a show called Fortal visited by nearly a million people. It took place near the beach on Fortaleza's main thoroughfare. It was broadcast on television and on radio. We began to worry. It was then that an idea struck us, that on the same day as the Fortal show, we should organise a festival of Christian music - to evangelise."
Moysés Louro de Azevedo Filho (Founder, Shalom Community).
The Shalom Catholic Community, a Catholic lay initiative founded by Moyses Louro de Azevedo Filho, understood that a Christian counterbalance was required to the secular and increasingly hedonistic Brazilian Carnivals such as Fortaleza's "Fortal" dominated by alcohol, drug abuse, prostitution, promiscuity and violence. To this end, Shalom organised the five-day Alleluia Festival featuring Christian music, shows, catechesis, worship, adoration and confession around the clock. Little by little the Alleluia Festival has gained favor among the young. Whereas the city in 2010 recorded only about 200,000 participants at its Carnival, the Shalom Community received over 650,000 visitors. The film considers the Alleluia Festival and the impact on the young.

Protesters have massed across Brazil to demonstrate against the rising costs of both public transport and the 2014 World Cup to be held in the country, following clashes with police over several days.
Protesters gathered in four Brazilian cities on Monday in what they hoped would be their biggest demonstrations yet against the increase in transit rates.
The protest movement is mainly made up of the middle class and is critical of the government's decision to increase transit rates by 10 cents, to $1.60.
Police in Sao Paulo estimated that 30,000 people rallied in the city's biggest demonstration yet. Up to 20,000 people marched in Rio de Janeiro and another 6,000 took part in protests in the capital Brasilia.
Authorities said they would respond with force only if protesters destroyed property.
Riot police had fired rubber bullets and tear gas into crowds of protesters on Thursday in Sao Paulo. Protest organisers said more than 100 people were hurt. Police only confirmed about a dozen injuries.
On Sunday police used tear gas and rubber bullets again when several hundred protesters marched near Maracana stadium before a Confederations Cup match between Italy and Mexico, part of an eight-team warm-up tournament for next year's World Cup finals in Brazil.
The government of Brazil, where almost one-fifth of the population lives in poverty, estimates that hosting the 2014 World Cup will cost $14.5bn.
Some tickets to the international football tournament are expected to cost more than Brazil's minimum wage of $300.
The government, however, has asked FIFA to make 500,000 seats available for free to the poor.
Demonstrations also were being held in the capital of Brasilia and in Rio de Janeiro.
In Brasilia, several thousand people under heavy police escort marched on the Esplanada dos Ministerios thoroughfare that cuts between rows of government ministry buildings.
Brazilian officials are using drones, thermal cameras and thousands of troops to patrol the six stadiums hosting matches in six different cities across the country.

It took place near the beach on Fortaleza's main thoroughfare. It was broadcast on television and on radio. We began to worry. It was then that an idea struck us, that on the same day as the Fortal show, we should organise a festival of Christian music - to evangelise." Moysés Louro de Azevedo Filho (Founder, Shalom Community). The Shalom Catholic Community, a Catholic lay initiative founded by Moyses Louro de Azevedo Filho, understood that a Christian counterbalance was required to the secular and increasingly hedonistic Brazilian Carnivals such as Fortaleza's "Fortal" dominated by alcohol, drug abuse, prostitution, promiscuity and violence. To this end, Shalom organised the five-day Alleluia Festival featuring Christian music, shows, catechesis, worship, adoration and confession around the clock. Little by little the Alleluia Festival has gained favor among the young. Whereas the city in 2010 recorded only about 200,000 participants at its Carnival, the Shalom Community received over 650,000 visitors. The film considers the Alleluia Festival and the impact on the young. -

Protesters have massed across Brazil to demonstrate against the rising costs of both public transport and the 2014 World Cup to be held in the country, following clashes with police over several days. Protesters gathered in four Brazilian cities on Monday in what they hoped would be their biggest demonstrations yet against the increase in transit rates. The protest movement is mainly made up of the middle class and is critical of the government's decision to increase transit rates by 10 cents, to $1.60. Police in Sao Paulo estimated that 30,000 people rallied in the city's biggest demonstration yet. Up to 20,000 people marched in Rio de Janeiro and another 6,000 took part in protests in the capital Brasilia. Authorities said they would respond with force only if protesters destroyed property. Riot police had fired rubber bullets and tear gas into crowds of protesters on Thursday in Sao Paulo. Protest organisers said more than 100 people were hurt. Police only confirmed about a dozen injuries. On Sunday police used tear gas and rubber bullets again when several hundred protesters marched near Maracana stadium before a Confederations Cup match between Italy and Mexico, part of an eight-team warm-up tournament for next year's World Cup finals in Brazil. The government of Brazil, where almost one-fifth of the population lives in poverty, estimates that hosting the 2014 World Cup will cost $14.5bn. Some tickets to the international football tournament are expected to cost more than Brazil's minimum wage of $300. The government, however, has asked FIFA to make 500,000 seats available for free to the poor. Demonstrations also were being held in the capital of Brasilia and in Rio de Janeiro. In Brasilia, several thousand people under heavy police escort marched on the Esplanada dos Ministerios thoroughfare that cuts between rows of government ministry buildings. Brazilian officials are using drones, thermal cameras and thousands of troops to patrol the six stadiums hosting matches in six different cities across the country.

A cidade conta com uma média de um evento a cada seis minutos.
Apesar da vitalidade econômica, porém, o turismo é ainda uma área que revela as graves desigualdades sócio-econômicas presentes na cidade, visto que, segundo críticos e estudiosos, grande parte do circuito cultural e turístico da cidade exclui a própria população paulistana de usufruí-lo, visto que ele se encontra na região central metropolitana.
Em 2009, o turismo em São Paulo alcançou um novo recorde, recebendo 11,3 milhões de turistas durante o ano, sendo 9,7 milhões domésticos (turistas brasileiros) e 1,6 milhões de estrangeiros, os quais deixaram R$ 8,5 bilhões na cidade.[6] Em 2008, foram recebidos 11 milhões de turistas. Dos 9 milhões de turistas domésticos, 25% são paulistas, seguidos pelos mineiros. Entre os turistas estrangeiros, os norte-americanos e argentinos são os que mais visitam a cidade de São Paulo.
Todos os anos, São Paulo recebe a decoração de Natal. Turistas de diversas partes do mundo visitam a cidade para passar as festas de final de ano.
De acordo com o prefeito Gilberto Kassab, em 2008, foram investidos R$ 5 milhões na decoração natalina, com 2,3 milhões de pontos de luz, tornando-se o natal mais iluminado do mundo. São diversos tipos de enfeites que estão presentes em várias avenidas, prédios, pontes e pontos turísticos da metrópole, desde os subúrbios até a região central.
São na Avenida Paulista, Teatro Municipal, Sede da Prefeitura, Vale do Anhangabaú, Parque do Ibirapuera, Ponte Octávio Frias de Oliveira, Represa de Guarapiranga, Estádio do Pacaembu, Avenida Robert Kennedy, Radial Leste, entre muitos outros lugares que receberam todos os preparativos para as festas.
Árvores de natal do Ibirapuera, da Ponte Octávio Frias de Oliveira e da represa de Guarapiranga, são as três maiores árvores natalinas da cidade, com 70, 100 e 30 metros de altura. Filmes relacionados à cidade que passam em importantes marcos históricos e turísticos da cidade. Apenas na Avenida Paulista são diversos decorativos em edifícios, nas calçadas, no canteiro central e ao longo da via.

Once a residential neighbourhood thoroughfare flanked by lavishly ornate mansions with Arabesque and European themes of the city's coffee barons and industry entrepreneurs such as the Matarazzo family, the avenue has undergone a massive verticalization from the 1950s on. Impressive Neo-Classic, Hindu-style and Middle Eastern architectonic structures were then illegally torn down overnight as a precaution against fiscalization or resistance from the population, basically students and artists, who would dare to promote protests during a military-ruled area. The only mansion worth visiting today is Casa das Rosas, near Praça Osvaldo Cruz in the very beginning of the long avenue. It was turned into a cultural center in the late 1980s. The house has oil/hydraulic heat radiators, a luxury only the millionaire could afford and something that could be of good use on very cold and damp nights and mornings of past São Paulo winters. A wide garden with rose specimens planted in the turn of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries still refreshes the senses of passersby of a polluted city that lacks recreational parks for all of its inhabitants.

Paulista Avenue is definitely one of the things to do in Brazil during any trip to Brazil.
It's also home to South America's most comprehensive fine-art museum, MASP.[2] and since the 1960s, Paulista avenue has been identified as one of the main business centers in the city of Sao Paulo Brazil.

"Before Halleluya began was a show called Fortal visited by nearly a million people. It took place near the beach on Fortaleza's main thoroughfare. It was broadcast on television and on radio. We began to worry. It was then that an idea struck us, that on the same day as the Fortal show, we should organise a festival of Christian music - to evangelise."
Moysés Louro de Azevedo Filho (Founder, Shalom Community).
The Shalom Catholic Community, a Catholic lay initiative founded by Moyses Louro de Azevedo Filho, understood that a Christian counterbalance was required to the secular and increasingly hedonistic Brazilian Carnivals such as Fortaleza's "Fortal" dominated by alcohol, drug abuse, prostitution, promiscuity and violence. To this end, Shalom organised the five-day Alleluia Festival featuring Christian music, shows, catechesis, worship, adoration and confession around the clock. Little by little the Alleluia Festival has gained favor among the young. Whereas the city in 2010 recorded only about 200,000 participants at its Carnival, the Shalom Community received over 650,000 visitors. The film considers the Alleluia Festival and the impact on the young.

Protesters gathered in four Brazilian cities on Monday in what they hoped would be their biggest demonstrations yet against the increase in transit rates.
The protest movement is mainly made up of the middle class and is critical of the government's decision to increase transit rates by 10 cents, to $1.60.
Police in Sao Paulo estimated that 30,000 people rallied in the city's biggest demonstration yet. Up to 20,000 people marched in Rio de Janeiro and another 6,000 took part in protests in the capital Brasilia.
Authorities said they would respond with force only if protesters destroyed property.
Riot police had fired rubber bullets and tear gas into crowds of protesters on Thursday in Sao Paulo. Protest organisers said more than 100 people were hurt. Police only confirmed about a dozen injuries.
On Sunday police used tear gas and rubber bullets again when several hundred protesters marched near Maracana stadium before a Confederations Cup match between Italy and Mexico, part of an eight-team warm-up tournament for next year's World Cup finals in Brazil.
The government of Brazil, where almost one-fifth of the population lives in poverty, estimates that hosting the 2014 World Cup will cost $14.5bn.
Some tickets to the international football tournament are expected to cost more than Brazil's minimum wage of $300.
The government, however, has asked FIFA to make 500,000 seats available for free to the poor.
Demonstrations also were being held in the capital of Brasilia and in Rio de Janeiro.
In Brasilia, several thousand people under heavy police escort marched on the Esplanada dos Ministerios thoroughfare that cuts between rows of government ministry buildings.
Brazilian officials are using drones, thermal cameras and thousands of troops to patrol the six stadiums hosting matches in six different cities across the country.

Brazil police crack down on drug gangs
Around 2,000 Brazilian police officers and soldiers met no major resistance on Sunday during the planned occupation of a complex of shanty-towns close to thoroughfares which will be used during the 2016 Olympic Games. The shanty-towns had been long held by Rio de Janeiro's largest drug-dealing faction, barricades had been put up to keep police and soldiers out. A 22-year-old Brazilian man was arrested on Friday, April 1, after footage of him throwing a rock at the head of a 61-year-old man, knocking him unconscious, was passed to police, Brazilian media reported.

A right-leaning group called Together for Brazil held a demonstration of support on Saturday, holding up English-language signs with messages including "Brazilians for Trump" and "Hillary for Prison."

About 4,000 protesters in Brazil's biggest city Sao Paulo marched peacefully on Wednesday night toward the stadium that will host the World Cup's opening match next week, calling on the government to provide more low-income housing.
In the latest protest by Brazilians ahead of soccer's premier event, the demonstrators made their way down a main thoroughfare in eastern Sao Paulo holding aloft banners and blocking traffic.
The Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) organised the march.
"We are indignant about this mega event (referring to the World Cup) that doesn't benefit the people. This event will happen and we cannot participate, we can only watch on TV. On the other hand, 250-thousand families have no homes in Brazil," said Jussara Basso, an activist and a leader of the Homeless Workers Movement.
Chanting songs about housing and urban reform, the demonstrators ended the protest at the Sao Paulo stadium which will host the opening World Cup match.
"If our demands are not met before the World Cup opening match, we will continue protesting during the World Cup. We will do it in order to guarantee that our demands will be delivered to (Brazil) President Dilma Rousseff," said demonstrator Zezito Alves.
Last year, anti-government protests, that in part targeted the billions spent to host the World Cup, took over streets across Brazil during the Confederations Cup soccer tournament.
Several saw violent clashes between police and demonstrators.

Two main thoroughfares were closed after angry demonstrators from a slum set ablaze barricades of tyres and hurled glass bottles to protest the death of a dancer, 25, whom Brazilian media say was killed after police mistook him for a drug trafficker.
In the resulting protests, a 30-year-old man died after being shot in the head.The victim was taken to hospital but was dead on arrival, broadcaster Globo's G1 web portal quoted health authorities as saying. It was not immediately clear who shot him.
Trouble began in the early evening in the Pavao-Pavaozinho favela, which nestles above the well-heeled tourist centres of Copacabana and Ipanema, before quickly spreading, witnesses said.
"It started around 5:30pm. There was smoke everywhere, shots in the street and people racing for their homes," said a young man living just next to the favela, or slum.
"A number of police special unit trucks have just gone up into the favela. We are stuck at home — we can't go out," he added, as helicopters flew over.
Another resident said electricity supplies had been cut in the area and the situation remained tense. G1 meanwhile reported violence had spilled over into Ipanema as some youngsters went on the rampage there, pursued by police.
EARLIER: Time running out for Brazil, says FIFAPolice have been cranking up their efforts to clear the favelas of crime before the month-long World Cup kicks off on June 12.
Although a huge slum "pacification" program was launched six years ago and gradually been rolled out to improve security in a city which will also host the 2016 Olympics, the gangs have been fighting back.
Friends of the dancer, Douglas Rafael da Silva Pereira, alleged he was beaten to death after attempting to take refuge in a school in the slum, where a Police Pacification Unit (UPP) was set up in December 2009 as part of efforts to smash organised crime."The circumstances surrounding the death of Douglas are under investigation. An on-site report indicates Douglas's injuries are compatible with a death caused by a fall," police told AFP in a short statement.
"Witnesses and residents will be called upon to give evidence," the statement added.
The dead man's mother said: "He died at one in the morning. More than 12 hours afterwards we got to see the body. He was in a defensive posture, all beaten up."
"There were no signs of gunshot wounds," she added, saying that her son had gone to the favela to visit his four-year-old daughter.
One resident of Pavao-Pavaozinho, Daizy Carvalho, who works for a human rights group, said of Douglas: "He was a mirror for youngsters, who are in revolt. What kind of World Cup is this?" she asked.
"The people from the favelas need to unite and come out onto the street," she told AFP, calling on tourists "not to come to the Cup."

Although a huge slum "pacification" program was launched six years ago and gradually been rolled out to improve security in a city which will also host the 2016 Olympics, the gangs have been fighting back.
Friends of the dancer, Douglas Rafael da Silva Pereira, alleged he was beaten to death after attempting to take refuge in a school in the slum, where a Police Pacification Unit (UPP) was set up in December 2009 as part of efforts to smash organised crime."The circumstances surrounding the death of Douglas are under investigation. An on-site report indicates Douglas's injuries are compatible with a death caused by a fall," police told AFP in a short statement.
"Witnesses and residents will be called upon to give evidence," the statement added.
The dead man's mother said: "He died at one in the morning. More than 12 hours afterwards we got to see the body. He was in a defensive posture, all beaten up."
"There were no signs of gunshot wounds," she added, saying that her son had gone to the favela to visit his four-year-old daughter.
One resident of Pavao-Pavaozinho, Daizy Carvalho, who works for a human rights group, said of Douglas: "He was a mirror for youngsters, who are in revolt. What kind of World Cup is this?" she asked.
"The people from the favelas need to unite and come out onto the street," she told AFP, calling on tourists "not to come to the Cup."
