The Communist Party of Ireland is an all-Ireland Marxist party founded in 1933. Its aim is to win the support of the majority of the Irish people for ending the capitalist system and for building socialism—a social system in which the means of production, distribution and exchange are publicly owned and utilised for the benefit of the whole people. | Páirtí Marxach uile-Éireann a bunaíodh ininsa bhliain 1933 is ea Páirtí Cumannach na hÉireann. Is é aidhm an pháirtí tacaíocht thromlach mhuintir na hÉireann a bhaint amach do dheireadh a chur leis an gcóras caipitleach agus do thógáil an tsóisialachais—córas sóisialta ina bhfuil na córacha táirgthe, dáileacháin agus malairte i seilbh an phobail agus ina n-úsáidtear iad ar mhaithe leis an bpobal iomlán. |

From the November issue:
The ASTI dispute: A teacher’s view I am a teacher in my third year of teaching after receiving my postgraduate diploma in education (formerly the higher diploma in education) in 2013. From the outset it was difficult to find work in any school. I spent my first two years in schools where I had temporary contracts, not being paid for holidays—including those magical “three months’ holidays.” When I did have regular work it was not the full twenty-two hours weekly class time; a lot of the time I would wait for calls in the morning to come into a school as a substitute teacher. Working people must continue to push forward on water ownershipThe CPI welcomes today’s announcement [8 November] by Fianna Fáil that they would support the holding of a referendum to put public ownership and control of water in the Constitution of Ireland. |

Study circlesThe CPI will begin its winter study circle on Tuesday 8 November. The circle will begin with two important works by Marx and Engels, Wage Labour and Capital and Value, Price and Profit. These will form the basis for the study circle’s reading of Capital (volume 1), beginning some time after Christmas. The separate study circle reading Imperialism in the 21st Century by John Smith will also begin shortly. Both circles meet in Connolly House (43 East Essex Street).Ciorcail staidéirTosóidh an CPI a chiorcal staidéir gheimhridh Dé Máirt 8 Samhain. Statement on debtReports in the media confirm that the state has paid more than €40 billion (€40,000,000,000) in interest on the bank bail-out in the last five years—almost the same amount as the bank bail-out itself, the CPI says in a statement. This confirms what the party has been saying since the banks were bailed out. |
Ráiteas ar na fiachaDearbhaíonn tuairiscí sna meáin gur íoc an stát níos mó ná €40 billiún (€40,000,000,000) mar ús ar tharrtháil na mbanc sna cúig bliana seo caite—beagnach an méid céanna a caitheadh ar tharrtháil na mbanc féin, a deir an CPI i ráiteas. Dearbhaíonn an tuairisc seo a bhfuil á rá ag an bpáirtí ó tarrtháladh na bainc. |
Rotten to the coreThe EU Commission has ordered Apple to pay €13 billion in back tax to the Irish state. This windfall tax should be put immediately into the National Pension Fund to guarantee future workers’ pensions, the CPI says in a statement. |

Ba chóir go gcuirfí an t‑amhantar seo isteach láithreach sa Chúlchiste Náisiúnta Pinsean, ionas go gcinnteofaí pinsin oibrithe amach anseo, a deir an CPI i ráiteas. |

Stop the TTIP!The “Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership” being negotiated between the United States and the European Union is a threat to democracy that would attack workers’ rights, erode social standards and environmental regulations, dilute food safety rules, and destroy digital privacy laws. | Cuir stop leis an TTIP!Is bagairt ar an daonlathas í an “Pháirtíocht Thrasatlantach Trádála agus Infheistíochta” atá á plé idir na Stáit Aontaithe agus an tAontas Eorpach a dhéanfadh ionsaí ar chearta oibrithe, a chreimfeadh caighdeáin shóisialta agus rialacháin imshaoil, a lagódh rialacha sábháilteachta bia, agus a mhillfeadh dlíthe um phríobháid dhigiteach. |
