Cyclist fighting for life after hit-run in Dynon Road, West Melbourne
A MAN has been bailed by police after he handed himself in following a hit-run collision in West Melbourne, that left a teenager fighting for life early this morning.
The Footscray man, 25, presented to a police station just after 5pm yesterday and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
He faces three charges including failing to stop, failing to render assistance and failing to report to police.
Ben Tyrrell, 18, was cycling when he was hit at the corner of Dynon Rd and Dryburgh St. He suffered traumatic head injuries and is in a coma in the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Doctors have told his parents, Kevin and Julie Tyrrell of Cloverlea in Gippsland, that Ben’s condition will be monitored hour by hour, with hopes that he will make it out of the critical 48-hour period.
Ben was in Melbourne installing floor boards not far from the accident scene.
