Islamic State highlights Melbourne landmarks in new propaganda video

ISLAMIC State terrorists have released a new video with Melbourne landmarks as their latest hit list.

The video, obtained by Seven News, was aimed to encourage home grown attacks on Melbourne Airport and St Paul’s Cathedral.

The propaganda video shows Melbourne’s cityscape 14 minutes in before a blast at a mosque followed by a shot of the airport and cathedral.

Global Islamic politics expert Professor Greg Barton said by showing Australian scenes, the terrorists hoped it would spark attacks.

“They’re hoping by putting Australian scenes in a propaganda video somebody in Melbourne or Sydney would look at be tipped over the edge in trying to do something,” Prof. Barton said.

“One of the things we have to worry about is not so much attacks on aircraft mid-flight but attacks at airports,

“The attacks at Brussels Airport and Istanbul Airport this year brought that truth home,” he said.

Counter terrorism Minister Michael Keenan said the terror related security measures in place across Melbourne are world class.

“All Australians and Victorians in particular should feel very confident that our efforts are doing what they’re required to do and that is keeping our country safe from this fanatical terrorism organisation.”

Victoria Police, Qantas and Melbourne Airport are aware of the video.
