The latest app version is great I was seriously considering deleting this app as it was huge. Almost 1-gb! I was running out of space on my Galaxy S4. However this latest version is much smaller and seems to work well. As was pointed out by others the app is not free. You need a subscription to the Post.

New format... work still needed Thanks for moving the buttons that blocked the text but the format is still sub par. I dislike the black, wide margins and inability to access the main menu from articles. Why does it keep asking me if I want to toggle to night mode? This should just be an option that changes the screen automatically if turned on. Pease look at NYT and WSJ formats for guidance.

(11/08/2016) The Nov 7 update has made it worse, 12% battery consumption overnight when phone not in use -- (11/01/2016) New update is consuming way too much CPU capacity according to SysteMon (a top like utility), is draining battery at an unacceptable rate (> 9%), and is crashing regularly in some cases requiring a phone restart to get it running again. Not good!

Is it worth the effort? Early this month I was offered, a generous 1 year complimentary subscription to WP. The App locks me out and demands I upgrade to a paid subscription. Have sent an email appealing for help twice over the last week and have not even received the promised automated response. I like the idea of news from over the pond unfiltered by the UK press, but on the WP's customer service performance I wouldn't risk paying for a subscription. Otherwise a reasonable app on my Galaxy Tab S2.
Too many pictures Open up the news and all you see is pictures.... Not enough substance to determine whether an article is worth reading.
This is not free After using it for one day you have to subscribe to read any stories. It is a $14.99 paid app.

Still buggy Print edition still won't rotate. That's OK for clickable articles, but it doesn't work for the comics. Print edition no longer auto downloads even though the box is checked in settings.
Latest version is a great improvement. The WashPost ap was pitiful vs. the NYTimes ap. The latest redesign is a great leap forward and long overdue.
Uses too much storage The updated app uses a lot of storage. It wouldn't be so bad if it were possible to store on my tablet's SD card. Also, the print edition does not download automatically.
New update has lots of bugs The latest update has lots of great features, such as speed, some new aesthetics, but it has lots of bugs that I'm hoping will be patched soon. When reading an article in the Local section and I hit the back button on my phone (not app), it keeps taking me back to the sports section. Some articles just aren't even loading or I'm getting a "connection error" message. Also, if they could let me know when an article is a video and not an actual article, that would be helpful.
Marginal improvement needed The new app has nice features, but why doesn't the text use more of the screen? Too large of a margin on the sides. And if you enlarge the font, then words are visibly chopped off by this imposed blackline.
whomever designed this never intended to is it themselves. that or they enjoy having less screen space for articles, and a pair of rarely-used white discs obscuring the text at all times. in any case, taking a class on UI/UX design would be a great start.
Upgrade stinks Section icon dosent work on fire hd or new Android phones. Where's the comic section. Only reason I subscribe. Time to rethink my subscription
Last update stinks Great paper; latest update wastes tons of space and puts buttons over article text. However, I like that it shows new articles prompt and gives you the option to load them or not
10/25/16 Update The return links are all over the map. You could select an article in Business and when finished the return link takes you to a completely different area. There is work to be done. This is not an improvement.
It's useful, but it's no replacement for the website. The stories seem to be sorted by popularity, which makes it less helpful if you're trying to follow or find a breaking story, and the most recent update seems to have made it impossible to pin something to the headings. I had to uninstall and reinstall before I could see the sections. It'd be nice if I could read the live chats from this, but that's a minor niggle.
Share and Bookmark Button The new app is not bad but the placement of the share and Bookmark buttons is not well thought out. You essentially lose 1/3 of the space since the last 12 lines are not read any. That's on my screen with small font. It gets even worse if you use landscape format.
Full of gross ads Just laden with repulsive content ads and too many of tgem. App is much faster than before. Print replica is ok.
Sections menu item doesn't work...shows black screen . Liked the app fine until last night's update. Now sections menu item doesn't work...shows black screen.
Broke it I tried the new app and was disappointed again, so I came back to the classic only to find it was updated and the Sections button no longer works. Stop breaking things that work!
New update really sucks Nothing showing up on Sections tab. Cannot jump straight to my favorite Sections and sub sections of the paper. The more I use the new app, the more I see how much it sucks. Terrible ad placement and bookmark and share buttons block text I'm trying to read. Fire the firm that convinced the WP that this is any improvement. Yikes!
Really!? The app get updated and now there are ads, which I can put up with. But the Share and Bookmark buttons overlay the last paragraph of the story. Wha genius thought of this?
Good, but . . . Easy to use, but the new layout has icons that block the text. And there's no way to change the layout. Did nobody actually use this before they rolled it out?
New update not an upgrade... Weird borders and buggy transitions are frustrating. Look forward to a fix.
Newer version has annoying features The share button and whatever the other icon is that float in the middle of the story are annoying and interfere with reading the story, which is THE essential thing to do with the app. Can't they be put somewhere unobtrusive at the bottom or top? New design is attractive, but app is not supposed to be a piece of art; it is a tool for reading, so why on earth would you do something to make reading harder? I shared articles with the old design, so the change is a "fix" to a problem that did not exist.
New version NOT an upgrade Bottom ads were bad enough - now there are ads BETWEEN articles, and in the MIDDLE of articles. I'm a WaPo subscriber, so I'm PAYING for this content, and I shouldn't have to see any ads at ALL, much less more (and more intrusive) ads in each new version.
Recent app update is nice, but no content under "Sections" I like the content, but this app still has much to be desired. Doesn't refresh content consistently, often showing outdated and old articles. Sometimes links to incorrect article. Now the new "Sections" pages shows nothing, so I can't navigate to additional sections.
Too gimmicky This new app has nothing to do with substance or delivering news. It still promotes the stories that most people are reading instead of offering a legitimate front page or breaking stories page. Pages now load with a black frame, as though they were text boxes in a weekly color newsmagazine. The icons for sharing and bookmarking are permanently parked in the corner of the screen, blocking text at the end of articles. It's insulting, really, what they are telling me about what they think of me.
New design is clunky and hard to navigate Recently this app was updated to a new format that makes the articles almost unreadable. It is nowhere near as clean as the screenshots shown above, which were of the old app, make it out to be. If you can, try to find an older version of this app (ie, before version 4.0)
WA POST App This is the best news app I have ever used. Have used for more than a year. It is well laid out and easy to access news. Have finally deleted all other apps for news. 1 of those is the news digest app - is comprehensive but have never liked it.
Good interface, hard to search, terrible data hog The first two are self-explanatory. As for the third, routinely clogs internal storage with 100s of MB of data. This might be more bearable if the app could be moved to SD card, but no. Poor design all in all.
Annoyed - Ads WITH Paid Subscription I'm really annoyed. I paid for monthly subscription, but still get annoying ads at bottom of screen that takes up valuable screen space. I cancelled my subscription and will look elsewhere.
Uses too much storage. The app is otherwise good, and I like it more than their newer version. But 380MB of cached data is way too much!
Traitors WP can suck it. Snowden is a whistleblower and should be protected as such!
Used to be smarter, but still only rarely stupid, so I guess that's good? Newspapering is no place to be, these days. It's an old, old joke: [Q] How can I make a small fortune in publishing? [A] Start with a large fortune. ___ Of course, Bezos has a large fortune, and then some, so he can weather many storms, but still. This was once the second-newspaper of record, for national news anyway, after the NY Times. I'm not sure quite what it is anymore. It's... okay? George Will is a festering moron but he had the wits and character to denounce Trump a while ago. So that's something?
Easy interface, full sync This app makes it easy to find stories that interest you. And the fact it can sync everything means you can sync it, then take it on a plane and read away (minus multimedia)
Print edition section links in v4.4 are broken. Do you even do any testing?
