New update disappointing The Guardian used to be my default news app. The new update looks attractive but seems very unstable. Although I like the content when available, I have started to look at other sources for reliable news. Please get this fixed or you will be losing your readers. Update to this review - reliability has now been much improved. Back to being the best!

Brilliant news app *Update* 1 star off as the latest update broke the widget 😪 - I am so disappointed I like this app, I don't want to be a Guardian reader but this app really is brilliant. Love the UI. Love how it looks. Love I can read an article then find a recommended related article. Literally keeps me reading for hours. Good work!

Great app A well designed app, I use it daily. I prefer reading the news this way than the paper version. It responds fast on my tablet. Because I am so impressed with the standard of reports and articles I decided to become a supporter member. This has given me access to even more good stuff and the quality of the app gets better and better.

Great app, but widget broken in latest update. I'm a lifelong Guardian reader and this app is for my money the best newspaper app out there. BTL comments are easy to find and often at least as informative as the articles themselves. Update - the ability in the latest version to swipe left to see the BTL comments is very useful. Update 18 Oct 2016: latest update seems to have broken the widget - if you tap on a headline in the widget you get a message saying the content is unavailable in-app.
News great, opinions less so! As a good quality source of news, the app's excellent - clear and easy navigation, masses of in-depth news, loads of articles, and sensible sports news. Opinions are, of course, left wing, and often not in tune with my left-side-of-UKIP thoughts; the Grauniad is as biased anti-Brexit as the Torygraph is pro. However, such a good app that, following Britain's Independence Day, I'm happy to pay £1 a week to help the paper and its journalists remain independent and the app keep going!

Great news app **UPDATE - dropped a star because the latest version seems to have broken the widget, no longer loads stories from the widget. Now need to manually open the app, then find the story you want to read. **Like the app design, love the breaking news alerts and the latest news widget. Fast load times and straightforward, intuitive interface.

Good source for news The writing is good on most articles. I really like the way that editorials have a different color background so that they are easily distinguishable. Widget seems to have broken after last update - getting "content isn't available in app" message when trying to click on a story.
Only works well on tablet Installed on Samsung tablet and phone but the older operating system on the phone seems unable to handle the app well. Can only sign in on tablet. Sometimes get blank / unloadable articles on my phone which only fixes when I force close the app. Doesn't happen on tablet. Very frustrating because obviously I use my phone more.

Hi, Would you be able to make sure you can sign in on the website? This way we'll be able to confirm that it's an issue with the app, rather than one with the identity system. You can email userhelp@theguardian.com for any further assistance with your issue.
Cheers,
Rob Good, but I love the Guardian news. But since a few days ago, for every news that I click on the gadget, I get the message "sorry, this content is not available in app". This message does not reflect the truth because if I go to the main app, I can access the content that I clicked before. :(
Great new and app The Guardian is one of the few newspapers without hegemonic cant as its editorial policy. The app is a great way to be notified of breaking news and to keep up with current events without the Matrix aftertaste that most papers leave behind. 11 Feb 2016: the app has gotten even better, and _mirabile dictu_, all that news is basically free, making The Guardian the best free online news source. And they cover US as well as they cover the UK.
News without the hustle Guardian always has excellent journalism. They have one of the best global teams out there. If you are offended by honest, balanced reporting, don't bother. This app provides free access. Very low-key pitches for donations.
Amazing layout and wide variety of articles There were ads on this app but it ain't annoying at all and don't pop-up while reading articles. However after reading an article, the page refreshes and goes back to the top when you go back to the homepage. Kinda annoying.
One of the best android apps out there Incredibly simple to use and easy to follow the writers you read on a regular basis. The footie section allowing you to follow your team and the goal updates for your team is also fantastic. Dont give a second thought. Guardian is the news app you need to have
Nearly perfect Excellent app, quick news updates but one problem has now emerged from an update. I can no longer click straight to a story from the widget. It tells me ' This story no longer available in app' and it just opens the home page, where I then can open the article. An annoying inconvenience.
The paper is better than the App I haven't made up my mind whether the website is more useable or the app is. My difficulties with the app are mostly in arranging sections on the home page. Listening to podcasts is tricky. They restart several times after they've been listened to.
Best Newspaper The only newspaper left with any sort of conscience. It's alone in its fight against vile, obnoxious rubbish like the Daily Mail.
News The Guardian posts news as it happens, news of interest, articles, opinions, and stories. I really like the people who leave comments though. They are thoughtful, articulate, and they can spell! Some of the comments are hilarious, and when others try to say mean obnoxious things they are just ignored instead of having mean obnoxious things said back to them. It's a classy, high standard news feed! I love it!
Been good but problems lately Been using for about 6 months without problem, but the last week or so articles sometimes won't open. I get a red pop up that says "can't open in app". I'm baffled.
Quality news Pretty diverse selection of news stories, while focusing in on really important ones when it's fitting to do so (2016 election coverage). Stories get to the point and are very readable. Typos are not uncommon, but not bad enough to confuse me as to what the news writers are getting at.
Very nice app, broken widget The Guardian is essentially my only news source and has been for roughly a decade. That said, it's a shame that the functionality of the widget has seemingly been removed. I can't imagine why, as I routinely use them to find stories outside of my normal interests.
Beautifully Done, except Very attractive app, great content, and only very, very rarely have I experienced any problems.UPDATE - The widget doesn't seem to work for me in that it displays headlines, but won't open them.
Bricking phone I don't know what has happened to this app but it really no longer works. It freezes, stalls, doesn't open articles at least once every day. Today it managed to crash my entire system (android). This still happens even with the new update. I've been sending feedback on this for the last six months but still no improvement. I am seriously considering not bothering with this any more. Please fix this and fix it properly, not just more updates that fail to fix the problem.
Ever since Nougat upgrade home screen widget has broken. Every time I click on an article it opens the app but closes straight after. Please fix as the widget is really useful. Android 7.0 Nexus 6p
The best journalism as always. Great journalism. App is pretty good too, though getting more complex & less intuitive to set up. Recent version was less stable, but latest version (849) working OK.

We're very sorry about the trouble you've been having with the app. Please contact userhelp@theguardian.com and we'll do our best to help you out. Problem with adding sections Recently, I could not add a subject section that I searched to home by clicking the add to home button on the top left. I used to be able to do that. Please fix the issue.
Does the job like no one else does. Always liked how the Guardian covers up the news, high, low or just plain wretched. And now the new layout is pleasing to the eye too.
Was on the button but now ..... Do like the headlines - great when there's something big going on. Not mad on the Guardian anymore - much too right on - but Guardian app seems to avoid that. Sadly new version of app is very iffy - what's gone wrong?
Screwed up the comments The comments only seem to open half of the time now. And the scrolling doesn't work for left handers. I use my right thumb to scroll, but the new arrangement of the comments means this often just swipes the page away. Please fix.
Spamming notifications Since the last update i am constantly receiving notifications from the app, sometimes up to 10 at a time for different articles. Please fix
Deletion of saved articles The most recent update deleted all saved articles on my account. I have been a long time reader using both the app and the site but this is an extremely poor show for what is normally an excellent service. Running on Samsung Galaxy S4.
Widget is broken After the last update any title displayed in the widget brings an error message, saying content is not available in-app.
Fantastic news coverage; when the app allows access to it. Why is it that most articles are frequently unavailable? Do I need to subscribe, Will that help? .No response from developers!..
What's wrong with the widget..? A usually reliable app has suddenly lost the plot. The widget will no longer take you to stories you want to read and the app crashes. Guardian, please this out!!
The same problem still persists. No notifications Notifications aren't being shown. Otherwise would have given 5 star.
Best news app relatively It is abit buggy when it tries new features, and tends to take time to load... I prefer if it can load without photos so i can read news more quickly
Always really dependable. My favourite app for news, with unbiased reporting, and offers updates on breaking stories so you're always up to date with world events.
Articles provide room for thought & create the desire for more research. article'sare substantive Like the layout & the diversity of the subject matter. Always thoughtful & intelligent ruminations. Really enjoy reading this app. Respects the reader's intelligence. Nice to an. objective view on North American events. Great articles, thoughtful & critical writing, and not afraid to display depth. The articles feel like a short story -it keeps one riveted.
Guardian App Easy Read This suits me down to the ground. I don't enjoy a lengthy newspaper anymore. This App gives excellent headlins allowing me to choose the main topics at the touch of a button.
The You appear to be offline message does not go away when the app closes. Very intrusive.
Clean, crisp, intuitive And still full of the very best left of centre news and comment, and the new version even better. Makes most news apps look scratchy & primitive.
