Want to know why Perth got such a soaking on Wednesday? Milli Vanilli would say blame it on the rain, but that would be too obvious.
According to Oz Cyclone Chasers, you should blame it on the 'mid-latitude' cyclone that's made landfall around Geraldton.
The weather website said unlike its tropical counterpart, a mid-latitude cyclone harbours most of its wild weather away from its centre, and one look at satellite images of Perth shows lashings of rain over the city with the eye of the storm further north.
"Wind gusts up to 40 knots have been recorded on Rottnest Island west of Perth while Geraldton itself - ground zero - has had winds up to 37 knots.
"Winds are expected to drop a few hours after landfall this evening and by tomorrow much of the rain and winds associated with this system should have cleared eastwards and weakened.
"An event like this is very rare for this time of year across Western Australia."
Satelite loop this morning is a real beauty. Cold front with low pressure centre spinning away nicely. https://t.co/ZUXJ65mYRB #WAWeather pic.twitter.com/3F581a9gh8
