Nigeria: Dogara to Anambra Electorate - Stop Removing Your Lawmakers At Every Election

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, weekend, advised the people of Anambra State to stop removing their National Assembly, NASS, members at every election, arguing that the action was denying the area quality representation and access to NASS leadership.

Dogara, who spoke at Obosi during an economic empowerment programme by Mr. Obinna Chidoka, the member representing Idemili North/Idemili South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, said: "In the place where I serve, which is the House of Representatives, experience counts. If I were a first time member, there was no way I would have been the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

"That is the rule and except it changes, it therefore means that if you keep removing your members in every election, there is no way this area can produce a leader in the National Assembly, let alone the Speaker."

Chidoka's empowerment programme, which attracted many members of NASS, including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, witnessed the distribution of 100 units of camping gas, 52 sewing machines, 15 motorcycles, 21 grinding machines, 10 generators, 10 tricycles and 16 electric transformers.

Meanwhile, Chidoka promised that the scheme would be continuous so that more constituents would benefit.
