The University of California, Santa Cruz (also known as UC Santa Cruz or UCSC), is a public, collegiate research university and one of 10 campuses in the University of California system. Located 75 miles (120 km) south of San Francisco at the edge of the coastal community of Santa Cruz, the campus lies on 2,001 acres (810 ha) of rolling, forested hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Monterey Bay.
Founded in 1965, UC Santa Cruz is considered a Public Ivy institution. It began as a showcase for progressive, cross-disciplinary undergraduate education, innovative teaching methods and contemporary architecture. Since then, it has evolved into a modern research university with a wide variety of both undergraduate and graduate programs, while retaining its reputation for strong undergraduate support and student political activism. The residential college system, which consists of ten small colleges, is intended to combine the student support of a small college with the resources of a major university.

The University of California (UC) is a public university system in the U.S. state of California. Under the California Master Plan for Higher Education, the University of California is a part of the state's three-system public higher education plan, which also includes the California State University system and the California Community Colleges System.
Governed by a semi-autonomous Board of Regents, the University of California has 10 campuses, a combined student body of 238,700 students, 19,700 faculty members, 135,900 staff members and over 1.6 million living alumni as of spring 2015.
The University of California was founded in 1868 in Berkeley, California. Its tenth and newest campus, UC Merced, opened for classes in fall 2005. Nine campuses enroll both undergraduate and graduate students; one campus, UC San Francisco, enrolls only graduate and professional students in the medical and health sciences. In addition, the UC Hastings College of Law, located in San Francisco, shares the "UC" name but is otherwise effectively unaffiliated with the UC system.
California (i/ˌkælᵻˈfɔːrnjə/ KAL-ə-FORN-yə, /ˌkælᵻˈfɔːrniə/ KAL-ə-FAWR-nee-ə) is a state located on the West Coast of the United States. It is the most populous U.S. state, with 39 million people, and the third largest state by area (after Alaska and Texas). California is bordered by Oregon to the north, Nevada to the east, Arizona to the southeast, and the Mexican state of Baja California to the south. It contains the nation's second most populous census statistical area (Greater Los Angeles Area) and the fifth most populous (San Francisco Bay Area), and eight of the nation's 50 most populated cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, Long Beach, and Oakland). Sacramento has been the state capital since 1854.
What is now California was first settled by various Native American tribes before being explored by a number of European expeditions during the 16th and 17th centuries. It was then claimed by the Spanish Empire as part of Alta California in the larger territory of New Spain. Alta California became a part of Mexico in 1821 following its successful war for independence, but was ceded to the United States in 1848 after the Mexican–American War. The western portion of Alta California was organized as the State of California, which was admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850. The California Gold Rush starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic change, with large-scale immigration from the east and abroad with an accompanying economic boom.

In this video I try to explain what college affiliation is, talk about the 3 things I learned my first year, and the one thing I dislike about UCSC lol I truly think it's an amazing school. I asked a few people what they like and dislike about UCSC to give you a different perspective from my own. Here is what they said: I love the campus, I like easy professor/TA accessibility (even though we have huge class sizes), the diverse campus and all the different activities and clubs we have. It's like there's something for everyone. What I don't like.. THE FOOD, the hills when I'm running late to class. I kinda wish the party school thing would tone down, but that's just because I'm not into it. - Annie, transfer, Molecular Cell Development I'm a simple man. Just give me a bigger gym and I...
Soo, I finally got around to filming that dorm tour! Keep in mind that this room was originally meant for two people so it is fairly small however, I have seen smaller dorm rooms at some of the other colleges here at UCSC. Hey everyone! I'm settled into my new place aka my first apartment. To me, that's pretty exciting haha. Quick Facts: 🖝 My apartment includes: - 2 triples - 1 bathroom - complete with refrigerator, oven, stove, etc. 🖝 It does not include: - cooking supplies and microwave 🖝 Bedrooms do not have mirrors or trashcan bins 🖝 There are some apartments at UCSC that have the shower and toilet separate, which is always nice. However, my apartment has them together. 🖝 Intro song: Beautiful Now - Zedd I cannot wait to start my second year living in my nice home and on this beautiful campus. I hope you all are enjoying your school year or back to school season. A little short film I made satirizing the stereotype of people that live in Santa Cruz. It is a narrative of one such person going through their morning routine before class. I do not own the rights to this song. This video is for entertainment purposes. Song: Uncommon Ritual By: Bela Fleck and Mike Marshal

Oo-wee how did I lose
Talkin' about a night in Santa Cruz
Oo-wee how did I lose
Talkin' about a night in Santa Cruz
Well I came to coast from L.A.
Just to give a little music to boo me away
Hey J.J. can you play Cocaine
Do After Midnight it's all the same
Oo-wee how did I lose
Talkin' about a night in Santa Cruz
Oo-wee how did I lose
I'll tell you about the night in Santa Cruz
Well we didn't play long it booed too soon
I can't do right no matter what you do
A girl in the crowd, at the finale
Shouted at me had I even turned
Another man left 'cos he didn't stay long
I thought we had played his favorite song
Hey you, pull that weight
A soon as it's cleaned up then I'll fade away
My friends and I hope you're glad to see
Me and friends coming off the street
Play, Richard
I don't mean a man can't lose
Just stay by the night in Santa Cruz
