England i/ˈɪŋɡlənd/ is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west. The Irish Sea lies northwest of England and the Celtic Sea lies to the southwest. England is separated from continental Europe by the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south. The country covers much of the central and southern part of the island of Great Britain, which lies in the North Atlantic; and includes over 100 smaller islands such as the Isles of Scilly, and the Isle of Wight.
The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law – the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world – developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation.
The points of the compass are points on a compass, specifically on the compass rose, marking divisions of the four cardinal directions: North, South, East, West. The number of points may be only the 4 cardinal points, or the 8 principal points adding the intercardinal (or ordinal) directions northeast (NE), southeast (SE), southwest (SW), and northwest (NW). In meteorological usage further intermediate points are added to give the sixteen points of a wind compass. Finally, at the most complete in European tradition, are found the full thirty-two points of the mariner's compass. In ancient China 24 points of the compass were used.
In the mariner's exercise of boxing the compass, all thirty-two points of the compass are named in clockwise order. The names of intermediate points are formed by the initials of the cardinal directions and their intermediate ordinal directions, and are very handy to refer to a heading (or course or azimuth) in a general or colloquial fashion, without having to resort to computing or recalling degrees. For most applications, the minor points have been superseded by degrees measured clockwise from North.

Hey everyone, this video is about my holiday in North West England (and Wales). On the summer 2007, I lived in Bolton during 2 weeks, but in fact, I visited many cities and places of this region (Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool, Chester, center part of Wales and Bolton of course). This is the first time that I'm using video sequences in my video (usually, I only use pictures). I would like to thank very much Lorraine and Malcolm who were my host family.
04/01/2015 First Club dig of the year. Few Coppers and a tatty roman. I don't think the temperature went above freezing with a heavy frost but the ground was still easy to dig. Over 300 musket balls came up between everyone who attended. Click the subscribe button to catch up coming digs!

The North West of England is the cradle of industrial and railway history and can still muster a varied and impressive range of railways and steam power. The region features the ideal 'tourist' line 'T'laal Ratty', running along the Esk's wooded valley into the heart of the Lake District. There is the award winning East Lancashire and South Tyndale Railways, and loco collections at Carnforth and Southport have connections to BR's Main Line. Exhibited in the power hall of Manchester's Museum of Science and Industry are steam engines and exhibits of all types and sizes, while at Blackpool we find the UK's sole surviving street tramway system. Some more random happenings on my travels. Enjoy :-) REMEMBER: Vehicles are a lot closer from my eye line than they appear in wide angle dash camera footage. There are plenty of Dashcam channels out there. This channel is just a bit of fun. If you take these clips too seriously it's on you. Negative comments will be deleted. I have no time for negativity or trolls on this channel. Constructive criticism welcome. For the rest that like my clips, leave positive comments, share and/or subscribe...a big Thank You :-)

The Issue Sellafield Nuclear Plant is located on the Northwest Coast of England on the Irish Sea. It is a government owned facility that produces about one-fourth of the United Kingdom's energy. Nuclear waste from this facility had turned the Irish sea into one of the most radioactive bodies of water in the world. This pollution threatens the health of the British people as well as inhabitants of Ireland across the Irish Sea. This is a controversial issue because of the environmental degradation of the Irish Sea. This case raises the question of how a country can try to protect it self against invading polution from a neighboring state. 2. Description CHILDREN AT RISK? In 1812, a very young United States of America had its sights set on expansion to the north and the west. But the British wanted to keep its former colony tightly contained. In the balance were the lands of the Northwestern Frontier. England's Canadian provinces wanted a buffer zone between their lands and what they perceived as a hostile United States. The native peoples who called this land their home, wanted it declared a self-governing Indian territory; an independent nation. The United States wanted to settle the frontier, as they felt they had been promised at the end of the Revolutionary War. The frontier was a gateway to further western expansion; a Great Lakes highway to natural resources; and a military challenge to the combatants. The War of 1812 would decide who control...

And we'll meet the locals — and their beloved dogs and sheep — everywhere. Then we play a little cricket, hike Hadrian's Wall, and get dazzled by Durham's Norman cathedral. © 2012 Rick Steves' Europe
