Oregon (i/ˈɔːrᵻɡən/ AWR-ə-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Oregon is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Washington, on the south by California, on the east by Idaho, and on the southeast by Nevada. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary, and the Snake River delineates much of the eastern boundary. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. It is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and the proximity to the ocean heavily influences the state's mild winter climate, despite the latitude.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843, the Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles, Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 26th most populous U.S. state. The capital of Oregon is Salem, the second most populous of its cities, with 160,614 residents (2013 estimate). With 609,456 residents (2013 estimate), Portland is the largest city in Oregon and ranks 29th in the U.S. Its metro population of 2,314,554 (2013 estimate) is 24th. The Willamette Valley in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area, home to eight of the ten most populous cities.

Nora, the young polar bear who has captivated much of the country since her birth at the Columbus Zoo last November, has arrived at the Oregon Zoo. The 10-month-old cub will move to the polar bear habitat after 30 days in quarantine — standard practice for animal health. Oregon Zoo visitors will be able to see Nora in her new home in mid-October. While Nora will remain behind the scenes during her quarantine period, the zoo will provide regular updates to supporters in Oregon, Ohio and beyond. The Oregon Zoo welcomed a new, and very tall, addition to its Africa Savanna habitat this week: Buttercup, a 2-year-old Masai giraffe from the Santa Barbara Zoo, is 12 feet tall and growing. Masai giraffes — the largest of the giraffe subspecies and the tallest mammals on earth — can grow to around 18 feet tall. The zoo’s animal-care experts say Buttercup will spend a month or so adjusting to his new home, and visitors can expect to see him later this fall.

If you like a good brew, you’re going to love Portland’s alter-ego, Beervana – so named thanks to all the breweries located here. In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States. I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti. While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next po...

I discovered this video still set to private as I was managing some videos earlier this evening. This was recorded in December of 2012, hence the totally different looking landscape, not to mention camera. The Kodak camera that was used to record this was stolen in April. The video starts out at the Oregon Zoo exit off Hwy26, goes through the Vista Ridge Tunnel (before the honking game became a regular thing), goes through downtown along the I-405, over the Marquam Bridge along the I-5, and heads into the eastside along I-84. We take the 181st exit into Gresham. From what I can tell from the video, the destination was Outrageous Audio, as I was still looking to replace the Saturn's stock radio (I ultimately selected a Kenwood deck with bluetooth, HD radio, Pandora, CD player, and AUX port ...
As we walk through the 2015 Portland Zoo Christmas light displays we have our 360 camera rolling so you can see what it is like before attending. Notes: 1) We don't edit most of our videos, so feel free to skip ahead through the boring parts. Another good option is to look around because there tends to be interesting things all around. 2) This is a 360 VR video, so you can look any direction you want, while the video is playing. That is why we don't edit them. You can use your mouse, headset, or motion sensor in your smartphone or tablet to look in any direction while the video is playing. 3) If the video doesn't show up as a 360 video, you might need to use a different browser. Chrome and the YouTube App both work great, but many others do as well.

A crowd of shovel-wielding schoolchildren joined forces with a 30-ton excavator today, as the Oregon Zoo broke ground on its next major campus improvement: a new conservation education center slated to open in spring 2017. The center — the fifth of eight major projects funded by the 2008 community-supported zoo bond measure — will be located in the area opposite the zoo's Amur tiger habitat and adjacent to the train station. It will provide a welcoming entry and staging area for the thousands of children who participate in zoo camps and classes each year, and serve as a regional hub, expanding the zoo's conservation education programs through partnerships with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Intertwine Alliance and others. http://www.oregonzoo.org/news/2015/09/oregon-zoo-breaks-gr...
"I can assure you that it has been our intent all along to keep Rose-Tu's baby here at the zoo. Our contract is representative of standard agreements within the zoo industry, and many animals live out their lives in the care of people who are other than their legal owners. The Oregon Zoo has been home to other residents who were not initially owned by the zoo, most notably Packy. The bottom line is that Rose-Tu's daughter will live her life here at the Oregon Zoo with her family. We are committed to our elephant program and will continue to provide opportunities for elephants to breed and live in family groups here at the zoo." -- Kim A. Smith, Director, Oregon Zoo
