edit   Welcome to the LGBT portal! Same-sex couple holding hands LGBT and variations are initialisms used to refer collectively to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender. Variations that are sometimes used include—but are not limited to—adding "Q" for queer or questioning, "I" for intersex, or "A" for asexual or aromantic. While LGBT is often used as a short way to refer to the various LGBT demographic groups, LGBT individuals themselves usually identify by other labels (such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer), or by no label at all. Around the world, government policies regarding the LGBT community range from the death penalty for sexual acts to civil marriages or partnerships for same-sex couples. Living conditions around the world also range from near-unanimous acceptance of public displays of affection to total discrimination in all areas such as housing or employment. edit   Selected article Janet Jackson (born May 16, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter and actress, who is considered to be a gay icon. Jackson garnered a substantial gay following during the 1990s as she gained prominence in popular music. Recognized as a long-term ally of the LGBT community, Jackson received the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music Album for her Grammy Award-winning sixth studio album The Velvet Rope (1997), which spoke out against homophobia and embraced same-sex love. He specialized in pastoral nude photography of the local youths, selling his prints to tourists such as Oscar Wilde. Caino (1902) is among his most famous works—an homage to the painting Young Male Nude Seated beside the Sea (1832) by Jean-Hippolyte Flandrin. Later photographers such as Cecil Beaton and Bruce Weber were influenced by von Gloeden's aesthetic. edit   Selected biography H.D. (born Hilda Doolittle) (10 September 1886 – 27 September 1961) was an American poet, novelist and memoirist best known for her association with the early 20th century avant-garde Imagist group of poets such as Ezra Pound and Richard Aldington. The Imagist model was based on the idioms, rhythms and clarity of common speech, and freedom to choose subject matter as the writer saw fit. H.D.'s later writing devleoped on this aesthetic to incorporate a more female-centric version of modernism.
