Philadelphia (/ˌfɪləˈdɛlfiə/) is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the fifth-most-populous in the United States, with an estimated population in 2014 of 1,560,297. In the Northeastern United States, at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill River, Philadelphia is the economic and cultural anchor of the Delaware Valley, a metropolitan area home to 7.2 million people and the eighth-largest combined statistical area in the United States.
In 1682, William Penn founded the city to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. Philadelphia was one of the nation's capitals in the Revolutionary War, and served as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C., was under construction. In the 19th century, Philadelphia became a major industrial center and railroad hub that grew from an influx of European immigrants. It became a prime destination for African-Americans in the Great Migration and surpassed two million occupants by 1950.

Peak Moment 144: Judy Wicks' love of place has made widening ripples on a global scale. She's the founder of BALLE (Business Alliance for Local Living Economies), a national network of sustainable, small businesses. After moving onto a quaint street in Philadelphia, she learned it was slated to be torn down. Organizing her community, she saved the block as a walkable community. She opened White Dog Cafe coffee shop on the first floor of her home, which grew to a large restaurant proudly serving food from local farmers. Reading John Robbins' Diet for a New America about the cruel treatment of factory farm animals, she located small family farmers and created a cruelty-free menu. Rather than hoard this proprietary information, she founded a local sustainable business network based on coopera...

The Keystone state -- key to America's independence. Check out the history and culture of Pennsylvania, where many German-speaking immigrants settled, with Christopher Hoh. Transcript: Hello, my name is Christopher Hoh. I work in the U.S. Embassy in Vienna, and I was born and brought up in the "the Keystone State." Pennsylvania was one of the original 13 colonies. It was called the Keystone State in the 18th century because of its central location and role in U.S. history. The first capital of the United States was in Philadelphia. Before it was colonized, the area was home to Native American tribes, including the Lenape and the Susquehannok. The name Pennsylvania means, "Penn's Woods." In 1681, England's King Charles II gave the land to William Penn as payment for a debt of 16,000 p...

http://bookinghunter.com Philadelphia is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the second largest city on the East Coast of the United States, and the fifth-most-populous city in the United States.[1] It is located in the Northeastern United States along the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers, and it is the only consolidated city-county in Pennsylvania. The most important places to visit in Philadelphia are: Franklin Court (was raised in 1812, the ghost of it still stands today. Here is the Christ Church Burial Ground, another famous landmark, where Ben Franklin and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence were laid to rest), Congress Hall (was home of the first Congress. On top of that, George Washington and John Adams were inaugurated here, and the Bill of Righ...
Take a tour of some of the most historic buildings of America. Historic Philadelphia is where the Founding Fathers laid the groundwork for the creation of America. Not only is the city packed with sites that commemorate what they did, but you can visit the places where they actually lived and worked. Let's start with Declaration House on Seventh and Market Street. Thomas Jefferson lived here during the time he wrote the Declaration of Independence. He wrote the document in three weeks. The Liberty Bell, right here on Sixth Street, is perhaps Philadelphia's most famous attraction. On July 8th, 1776, it was rung to commemorate the hearing of the Declaration of Independence. The Bell weighs 2,000 pounds, which may not be apparent by looking at it. It was cracked in 1846, and has not be...

Subscribe Daily Mail: https://twitter.com/daily_mail_ Barack Obama makes a final push for Hillary Clinton at a Philadelphia campaign rally. Eight years ago, I stood among thousands of cheering Americans in a Kansas City park and witnessed history being made with the creation of President Barack Obama. Waving placards proclaiming ‘Ready for Change’, they chanted ‘Yes-we-can! Yes-we-can!’ A preacher addressed the crowd, embracing the prospect of ‘a new day for America, for the world’. He continued: ‘Let us welcome the sheer beauty of believing in a candidate who inspires us.’
Guided by the belief that the Democratic Party takes the African-American vote for granted, some black Philadelphians are using the final days of the campaign to make the case for Donald Trump. Inside the wood-panelled sanctuary of a small, North Philadelphia church, a group of men - and one woman - are busily folding handouts and talking strategy. "I'm gonna be the one they attack," says Bruce Carter, gesturing to his T-shirt which says TRUMP in large red lettering. "They're comin' for me." Calvin Tucker, a tall, nattily dressed Trump surrogate in a coat, tie and Make America Great Again cap, acts the moment. "'Wow - you're supporting Trump?' … 'Man, what are you doing?'" he says, then answers himself: "Hey - we gotta try something different." Parked just outside of First Immanuel Baptist...

I haven't visited historic Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, since I was a kid but this time I brought along my youngest niece. If you love American history, this is a must-do trip. One of the great things about visiting historic Philadelphia is that all of the main attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. We visited Independence Hall (my favorite because the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed here), the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin's Grave in Christ Church Burial Ground, the Philadelphia Mint (my niece's favorite because you can see the coins being minted), the President's House (America's first White House), the National Constitution Center (where original copies of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are held), the Betsy Ross...

When they cut you, the blade went deep
You thought a blanket of silence would strengthen your feet
Then a name came out in prophecy
Still you were terrifier that name was truth
It's truth
Brother you must find which way to go
And with grace be bold
Just take your time
Take your time
And with grace be bold
Despite truth, the talk was cheap
You thought a princess with purpose was all that you'd need
Then a name came out in prophecy
He knew that growning fire
It came from you
Yes. you
Brother you must find which way to go
And with grace be bold
Just take your time
Take your time
And with grace be bold
The clouds will come but they're not gonna stop this love
The clouds will come
Now a hole would be something
No, I was still nothing
Brother you must find which way to go
And with grace be bold
Just take your time
Take your time
And with grace be bold
The clouds will come but they're not gonna stop this love
