1921 (MCMXXI) was a common year starting on Saturday (dominical letter B) of the Gregorian calendar and a common year starting on Friday (dominical letter C) of the Julian calendar, the 1921st year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 921st year of the 2nd millennium, the 21st year of the 20th century, and the 2nd year of the 1920s decade. Note that the Julian day for 1921 is 13 calendar days difference, which continued to be used from 1582 until the complete conversion of the Gregorian calendar was entirely done in 1929.
Sir Charles Spencer "Charlie" Chaplin, KBE (16 April 1889 – 25 December 1977) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the silent era. Chaplin became a worldwide icon through his screen persona "the Tramp" and is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry. His career spanned more than 75 years, from childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977, and encompassed both adulation and controversy.
Chaplin's childhood in London was one of poverty and hardship. As his father was absent and his mother struggled financially, he was sent to a workhouse twice before the age of nine. When he was 14, his mother was committed to a mental asylum. Chaplin began performing at an early age, touring music halls and later working as a stage actor and comedian. At 19 he was signed to the prestigious Fred Karno company, which took him to America. Chaplin was scouted for the film industry, and began appearing in 1914 for Keystone Studios. He soon developed the Tramp persona and formed a large fan base. Chaplin directed his own films from an early stage, and continued to hone his craft as he moved to the Essanay, Mutual, and First National corporations. By 1918, he was one of the best known figures in the world.
Adolf Hitler (20 April 1889 – 30 April 1945) was an Austrian-born German politician who was the leader of the Nazi Party (NSDAP), Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945, and Führer ("leader") of Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945. He was effectively dictator of Nazi Germany, and was a central figure of World War II in Europe and the Holocaust.
Hitler was a decorated veteran of World War I. He joined the precursor of the NSDAP, the German Workers' Party, in 1919 and became leader of the NSDAP in 1921. In 1923, he attempted a coup in Munich to seize power. The failed coup resulted in Hitler's imprisonment, during which time he dictated his autobiography and political manifesto Mein Kampf ("My Struggle"). After his release in 1924, Hitler gained popular support by attacking the Treaty of Versailles and promoting Pan-Germanism, anti-Semitism, and anti-communism with charismatic oratory and Nazi propaganda. Hitler frequently denounced international capitalism and communism as being part of a Jewish conspiracy.

Songs of the Century The songs are divided by decades. This is the third part 1921 - 1930
Chaplin's first full-length feature is a silent masterpiece about a little tramp who discovers a little orphan and brings him up but is left desolate when the orphanage reclaims him. The little boy was played by Jackie Coogan. In his adult life, Jackie Coogan played the legendry character of Uncle Fester in the iconic television series, The Adams Family. Coogan's turbulent life as a child actor was the catalyst for todays laws protecting child actors in Hollywood. Chaplin directed, produced and starred in the film, as well as composed the score. The opening title reads: "A comedy with a smile--and perhaps a tear". As she leaves the charity hospital and passes a church wedding, Edna deposits her new baby with a pleading note in a limousine and goes off to commit suicide. The limo is stol...

CONTINUED FROM PART ONE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKYukZ9s3E4 This is the second part of my lecture series on Adolf Hitler's rise to power, picking up after Hitler was elected leader of the National Socialist German Workers (Nazi) Party (NSDAP) and continuing through the onset of the Great Depression. After taking over the leadership of the NSDAP, Hitler led the failed "Beer Hall Putsch" coup attempt in 1923, after which he spent the better part of a year in prison. While in prison, Hitler wrote Mein Kampf and came out of prison with a change in strategy: rather than try to overthrow Weimar Germany's liberal democracy by force, he would use the democratic process. Rather than violence, the Nazis would use propaganda and paramilitary organizing in order to get their message to ...
[Lover:]
I've got a feeling twenty one
Is going to be a good year.
Especially if you and me
See it in together.
[Father:]
So you think 21 is going to be a good year.
It could be for me and her,
But you and her-no never!
I had no reason to be over optimistic,
But somehow when you smiled
I could brave bad weather
[Mother:]
What about the boy?
What about the boy?
What about the boy?
He saw it all!
[Mother and Father:]
You didn't hear it
You didn't see it.
You won't say nothing to no one
ever in your life.
You never heard it
Oh how absurd it
All seems without any proof.
You didn't hear it
You didn't see it
You never heard it not a word of it.
You won't say nothing to no one
Never tell a soul
What you know is the Truth.
