David (/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Hebrew: דָּוִד, Modern David, Tiberian Dāwîḏ;ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُد Dāwūd; Syriac: ܕܘܝܕ Dawid; Ancient Greek: Δαυίδ; Latin: Davidus, David; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Books of Samuel, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel, and according to the New Testament, an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040 – 970 BCE, his reign over Judah c. 1010–970 BCE.
The Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles are the only Old Testament sources of information on David, although the Tel Dan Stele (dated c. 850–835 BCE) contains the phrase בית דוד (bytdwd), read as "House of David", which many scholars confirm to be a likely plausible match to the existence in the mid-9th century BCE of a Judean royal dynasty called the House of David.
Depicted as a valorous warrior of great renown, and a poet and musician credited for composing much of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms, King David is widely viewed as a righteous and effective king in battle and civil justice. He is described as a man after God's own heart in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22.

Prince Charming
Prince Charming is a stock character who appears in some fairy tales. He is the prince who comes to the rescue of the damsel in distress, and stereotypically, must engage in a quest to liberate her from an evil spell. This classification suits most heroes of a number of traditional folk tales, including "Snow White", "Sleeping Beauty" and "Cinderella", even if in the original story they were given another name, or no name at all.
These characters are often handsome and romantic, a foil to the heroine, and are seldom deeply characterized, or even distinguishable from other such men who marry the heroine. In many variants, they can be viewed more as rewards for the heroine rather than characters. The prominence of the character type makes him an obvious target for revisionist fairy tales. "Prince Charming" is also used as a term to refer to the idealized man some people dream of as a future spouse.
History of term
Charles Perrault's version of Sleeping Beauty, published in 1697, includes the following text at the point where the princess wakes up: "'Est-ce vous, mon prince?' lui dit-elle, 'vous vous êtes bien fait attendre'. Le Prince charmé de ces paroles... ne savait comment lui témoigner sa joie". ("'Are you my prince?' she said. 'You've kept me waiting a long time'. The prince charmed by her words... did not know how to express his joy.") It has sometimes been suggested that this passage later inspired the term, "Prince Charming", even though it is the prince who is charmed (charmé) here, not who is being charming (charmant).

More than 55 years ago John McCarthy had an insanely great idea called Lisp. Lisp marked the beginning of functional programming, interpreters, high-level metaprogramming, garbage collection, and much more. Yet after such auspicious beginnings the idea of Lisp has since faded and many of its innovations have been adopted by much more popular programming languages. Until recently Lisp even appeared doomed to fade into obscurity but several things have conspired to make Lisp somewhat cool again - one of these is Clojure, a fun modern Lisp targeting the Java Virtual Machine. However the Web doesn't speak JVM bytecodes. It speaks JavaScript - thus the cornucopia of languages that now compile to JavaScript. The most well known include GWT, CoffeeScript, and more recently Dart and TypeScript. However none of these represent a real break from the status quo. John McCarthy's insanely great idea still has a lot to offer the Web and we'll see how with ClojureScript, an implementation of Clojure that targets JavaScript. -

In "ClojureScript: Lisp's Revenge" David Nolan tries to expand our minds with wisdom from the days of Lisp at Web Rebels 2013.
More than 55 years ago John McCarthy had an insanely great idea called Lisp. Lisp marked the beginning of functional programming, interpreters, high-level metaprogramming, garbage collection, and much more. Yet after such auspicious beginnings the idea of Lisp has since faded and many of its innovations have been adopted by much more popular programming languages. Until recently Lisp even appeared doomed to fade into obscurity but several things have conspired to make Lisp somewhat cool again - one of these is Clojure, a fun modern Lisp targeting the Java Virtual Machine.
However the Web doesn't speak JVM bytecodes. It speaks JavaScript - thus the cornucopia of languages that now compile to JavaScript. The most well known include GWT, CoffeeScript, and more recently Dart and TypeScript. However none of these represent a real break from the status quo.
John McCarthy's insanely great idea still has a lot to offer the Web and we'll see how with ClojureScript, an implementation of Clojure that targets JavaScript.

David Nolan was one of the founders of the Libertarian Party, and was also the inventor of the Nolan chart, which separates issues of economic and social freedom by representing them on a multidimensional plane, with libertarianism at the top (representing the philosophy espousing the highest degree of both social and economic freedoms). He passed away in 2010. We live in a time of vast computational resources - many of us carry around in our pockets what just thirty years ago would have been considered a supercomputer. But it's not just the hardware, these bite sized supercomputers run software using state of the art dynamic compilation techniques to deliver stellar performance without sacrificing flexibility. While all of this may sound incredibly futuristic, many of us still program these Dream Machines with miserly techniques not far removed from the best practices of the 1960s. We have cycles to spare, by investing some of them into immutable data structures our programs get new wonderful properties that enable us to design solutions at a much higher level of abstraction. Surprisingly the high performance mutation available in modern JavaScript engines is a great foundation for building high performance immutable collections. Even more surprisingly efficient immutable collections permit new ways of approaching user interface programming. More than 55 years ago John McCarthy had an insanely great idea called Lisp. Lisp marked the beginning of functional programming, interpreters, high-level metaprogramming, garbage collection, and much more. Yet after such auspicious beginnings the idea of Lisp has since faded and many of its innovations have been adopted by much more popular programming languages. However the Web doesn't speak JVM bytecodes. It speaks JavaScript - thus the cornucopia of languages that now compile to JavaScript. The most well known include GWT, CoffeeScript, and more recently Dart and TypeScript. However none of these represent a real break from the status quo.

Angelina Jolie (Unbroken), Christopher Nolan (Interstellar), Richard Linklater (Boyhood), Mike Leigh (Mr. Turner), Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) and Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) discuss their new films, open up about ethics, fears, family and what drives them: "We're all kind of control freaks, right?"
"It's an impulse to tell stories, to make things up, to get people doing things," Mike Leigh, director of "Mr Turner", explains about film directing. Rookie director Angelina Jolie shares that her passion for directing came to her accidentally and occurred because she wanted to "protect the material" of the script she wrote for the now motion-picture film, "In the Land of Blood and Honey", in which she made her directorial debut. When asked if the critically-acclaimed film, "Foxcatcher", changed director Bennett Miller, he said, "It broke me." Miller explains that the two hour and 14 minute film that audience has seen was once an over four hour cut before it was edit meticulously for a period of one year. Richard Linklater, who filmed "Boyhood" for a span of 12 years, explains that the film making was a "marathon"and a "gift." "I have a very understanding wife, you need to have a partner that really understands what you're doing and going through because you become extremely focused on yourself and what you're doing," said "Imitation Game" director Morten Tyldum when asked what kind of toll directing takes on his personal life. "If i really believe that what I'm doing is going to give the audience the best experience possible, I think that comes across [through the film]" Christopher Nolan, director of Interstellar, said about his sense of responsibility while filmmaking.

Brændte Skibe
Brændte Skibe (Burning Ships) was commissioned from Butler composer Harriet Steinke. The piece is a setting of the Norwegian poem, of the same name, by the Scandinavian playwright, director, and poet, Henrik Ibsen.
Listen as you hear an alto clef group, mixed of tenors and altos, carry out the principal theme that resides in B-minor. Steinke’s use of cluster chords permeates the entire work yet they are shrouded in expanded registers, allowing a warmer reception on the common ear. Listen for a gorgeous crescendo and tonal change on the first two lines of text in the middle of this piece. Dynamic contrasts and abrupt tonal changes frame the first threes stanzas of text and lead the listener to the last stanza where the sopranos and tenors occupy the principal theme and the choir tapers to a pianissimo.

Brændte Skibe (Burning Ships) was commissioned from Butler composer Harriet Steinke. The piece is a setting of the Norwegian poem, of the same name, by the Scandinavian playwright, director, and poet, Henrik Ibsen.
Listen as you hear an alto clef group, mixed of tenors and altos, carry out the principal theme that resides in B-minor. Steinke’s use of cluster chords permeates the entire work yet they are shrouded in expanded registers, allowing a warmer reception on the common ear. Listen for a gorgeous crescendo and tonal change on the first two lines of text in the middle of this piece. Dynamic contrasts and abrupt tonal changes frame the first threes stanzas of text and lead the listener to the last stanza where the sopranos and tenors occupy the principal theme and the choir tapers to a pianissimo.

We live in a time of vast computational resources - many of us carry around in our pockets what just thirty years ago would have been considered a supercomputer. But it's not just the hardware, these bite sized supercomputers run software using state of the art dynamic compilation techniques to deliver stellar performance without sacrificing flexibility.
While all of this may sound incredibly futuristic, many of us still program these Dream Machines with miserly techniques not far removed from the best practices of the 1960s.
We have cycles to spare, by investing some of them into immutable data structures our programs get new wonderful properties that enable us to design solutions at a much higher level of abstraction. Om is a new library I've created just to explore these possibilities. Surprisingly the high performance mutation available in modern JavaScript engines is a great foundation for building high performance immutable collections. Even more surprisingly efficient immutable collections permit new ways of approaching user interface programming. While the details will be in Om, an immutable user interface toolkit written in ClojureScript over Facebook's React, the talk will be primarily focused on high level concepts easily ported to JavaScript. We'll dive in and see how trees of JavaScript arrays can permit building these efficient immutable collections. Then we'll see how embracing immutable values dramatically simplifies some classic hard problems in client side programming including but not limited to undo, error playback, and online/offline synchronization.
