Yangshuo County (simplified Chinese: 阳朔县; traditional Chinese: 陽朔縣; pinyin: Yángshuò Xiàn) is a county under the jurisdiction of Guilin City, in the northeast of Guangxi, China. Its seat is located in Yangshuo Town. Surrounded by karst peaks and bordered on one side by the Li River it is easily accessible by bus or by boat from nearby Guilin. In the 1980s, the town became popular with foreign backpackers, and by the late 1990s packaged tourists began arriving in greater numbers. At that time, domestic tourism represented only a small fraction of the tourists but by 2005 domestic tourists outnumbered foreign tourists by a great margin. Today, the town has become a resort destination for both domestic and foreign travelers. There is a lot to explore in Yangshuo. The West Street of Yangshuo has become a must-visit place. The history of West Street dates back to over 1400 years ago. At that time, there were only a few grocery stores in the street. Now, it has become a popular street that you can find many foreigners walking around the street and even become the boss of a bar or restaurant. There are signs written in both Chinese and English. Due to tourism, most locals in Yangshuo speak English, which is uncommon for Chinese cities.

www.instagram.com/timandglo October 11, 2014 We spent three days and two nights in Yangshuo, Guangxi Province! We flew from Shanghai to Guilin then took a bus directly from the airport to Yangshuo's North Bus Station, which cost just 50 RMB per person and took almost 90 minutes. Our hotel is located just south of Yangshuo City in FengLou Village, so we had to transfer to two other mini buses to get there. First we took a mini bus from the North Bus Station to the South Bus Station then a second mini bus from the South Bus Station to FengLou. We had the option to take a cab from North Bus Station directly to our hotel for 50 RMB, but it was easy enough to take public transportation. It was also a lot cheaper! The first bus ride was one RMB per person and the second was just three RMB per ...
www.instagram.com/timandglo October 12, 2014 Day 2 in YangShuo was all about biking! We rented two Giant mountain bikes from our hotel, Phoenix Pagoda, for just 50 RMB per bike per day. We set out at about 10:30 with our bikes and map and didn't return to the hotel until around 7:00 pm. We spent most of the day on quiet country roads that wove through villages and rice fields. It was BEAUTIFUL. The terrain was mostly flat although we did encounter two or three hills. During the middle of the ride we wound up on West Street, which is the heart of YangShuo's tourist industry. It's convenient for shopping, food and accommodation but is absolutely swarming with large tourist groups, especially at night. We recommend staying in other parts of the city and visiting West Street for shopping a...
Five years ago, Ian Hamlinton quit his job as a China tour guide in Yangshuo, and moved to the small village of Jiuxian in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Here, he rented six Qing Dynasty houses that he had discovered on a tour. At this time, local villagers couldn’t understand why he would want to rent these old houses, as they had deemed them worthless; therefore, they gave him the nickname, “Fengzi”, which means “crazy” or “madman”. Later, Ian renovated the houses and created his own boutique hotel called, The Secret Garden Hotel. Ian has helped bring tourism to Jiuxian, and he is fully integrated into the community; he’s somewhat of a celebrity in the area. Ian now considers Jiuxian his home, and he finds it hard to see himself living anywhere else in the world.

Highlights of the trip to Guilin and Yangshuo, China, including Li River Cruise and other attractions such as Reed Flute Cave, Elephant Trunk Hill, Moon Hill, Shangri-La.
Christmas is a great time to travel in Mainland China. While you get time off work or school back home, it is not a public holiday in the Middle Kingdom. It is the low season with cheap prices and no crowds. It is also the time when weather is best in the southern and western parts of the country. So we packed a small backpack and got on the bullet train to the famous Guilin in northern Guangxi province. This heavily promoted region is home to many famous sights: the karst scenery around Li River, Longsheng rice terraces, caves, idyllic villages populated by ethnic minorities... It is one of the most visited places in China and recommended by travel guides as an essential part of any China itinerary. The highlight of the trip was the 6 hours hike among the Longsheng rice terraces. We s...
Coming on a Li-river boat cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo can be a great introduction to the clear rivers and the impressive karst mountain landscape this region is famous for and a true highlight of your China trip. Particularly the middle part between Yangdi and Xing Ping is breath-taking with literally hundreds of karst peaks towering up as huge dragon teeth from both sides of the Li-river up the sky which makes one feel rather small, even on a large tour boat. Be sure to check out http://www.brendansadventures.com for more of my photography. About the video: This video is the first in a segment on Brendan van Son Travel Photography that I'm calling "Getting the Shot". Basically, what goes down in this segment of the show is simple. I take you through my process of getting a shot out in the field. From the very starting point, in which I am trying to find places to shoot, up to the shot itself, and even the post-processing of the photo, this is a bit of a guide on what goes in to getting a great image. In this first episode of the travel photography channel, I explore the area of Yangshuo, China which really is a fascinating place to shoot travel photography. There are all these really amazing limestone karst landscapes in the Yangshuo regio...
