Richard Steven Valenzuela (May 13, 1941 – February 3, 1959), known professionally as Ritchie Valens, was a Mexican-American singer, songwriter and guitarist. A rock and roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens' recording career lasted eight months, as it abruptly ended when he died in a plane crash.
During this time, he had several hits, most notably "La Bamba", which he adapted from a Mexican folk song. Valens transformed the song into one with a rock rhythm and beat, and it became a hit in 1958, making Valens a pioneer of the Spanish-speaking rock and roll movement.
On February 3, 1959, on what has become known as "The Day the Music Died", Valens died in a plane crash in Iowa, an accident that also claimed the lives of fellow musicians Buddy Holly and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, as well as pilot Roger Peterson. Valens was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

Fatal is pulled into the nether world where he makes a deal with a demon: Ritchie Valens' rescued soul for a one-way ticket back to the land of the living as the greatest artist ever to live. But as he wanders through the underworld and meets his idols, including the Valens family, Fatal begins to see just what being famous could mean.

The late, great Ritchie Valens. This is his version of the timeless classic, La Bamba. The other versions on Youtube, claiming to be Ritchie Valens are the Los Lobos cover from the movie of the same name starring Ritchie. Disclaimer- I do not own this, I'm merely allowing people to hear his version. Shout out Zoe Hopgood

Tommy Allsup tells the story of the coin flip with Ritchie Valens exactly 48 years to the day after it happened. Filmed at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Ritchie Valens won the coin flip and died in the plane crash with Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper in the early morning of February 3, 1959. Tommy Allsup continued on to play in over 7.000 studio sessions and is a grammy award winning artist who is still performing today.
Ritchie Valens purchased the home for his mother in 1958 and resided here until his death in 1959, which was the most productive period of his professional career.
