Leftöver Crack is an American punk rock band formed in 1998, following the breakup of Choking Victim. The band is currently signed to Fat Wreck Chords for CD releases, and Alternative Tentacles for vinyl releases. The band consists of Scott Sturgeon (vocals), Brad Logan (guitar), Alec Baillie (bass guitar), Leftöver Crack spans several different music genres including hardcore punk, ska, and crust punk. They write mostly political lyrics of a radical leftist nature, opposing religion, capitalism, and authority. Members of Leftöver Crack reside in the C-Squat on 155 Avenue C in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Natives of New York City, band members have a well-documented history of back-and-forth conflict with the NYPD which precedes the band's formation. The name "Leftöver Crack" is explained by Stza as being "an oxymoron", based on the idea that crack cocaine addicts are known for vigorous use, and are unlikely to have any "leftover" crack.

Choking Victim

Choking Victim was a United States punk rock band formed in New York City, which lasted from 1992 to 1999. They played a mix of hardcore punk and ska (known as ska-core). Following the breakup of the band, which occurred the same day as the recording of their only studio album No Gods, No Managers, members went on to form Leftöver Crack and INDK (among others).

Background

The band became well-known at the C-Squat in the Lower East Side of Manhattan for their innovative music and politically charged lyrics. They also became infamous for their Satanic imagery and references to the vagrant lifestyle, including smoking both crack cocaine and marijuana, shoplifting, and squatting. The band prides itself on its atheism, making reference to Satan for the purpose of being offensive, rather than any actual worship of the deity. On the album No Gods, No Managers, they use excerpts from the lectures of political scientist Michael Parenti.

Breakup

Choking Victim broke up after the first day of recording for their first full-length LP, No Gods, No Managers, but the recordings from that one day were enough to make a full album. After they broke up, Stza formed the band Leftöver Crack, and Skwert and Ezra formed INDK. Ezra joined Leftover Crack in 2001. Skwert is currently the front man for the NJ based ska punk band Public Serpents. Sascha has spent the last several years organically farming in upstate NY, and is a founding member of Icarus Project, a radical mental health network. Choking Victim and Leftöver Crack are anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-homophobic and anti-fascist.

Fuck World Trade

Fuck World Trade is the second album by American punk band Leftöver Crack, released in 2004 on the Alternative Tentacles label.

The album continues the band's self-defined status as anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-capitalist, and anarcho-communist. It also contains references to the fact that their first album was released the day of the September 11th attacks. Fuck World Trade, released through Alternative Tentacles, displays a freer approach, both lyrically and musically, than the previous work of the band, featuring longer songs and guest appearances by Anti-Flag on "Via Sin Dios" as well as "circus-punks" The World/Inferno Friendship Society on "Soon We'll Be Dead." Despite this, it maintains the distinctive "squat-core" style members of Leftöver Crack coined to describe their previous band Choking Victim: high-speed ska mixed with thrashy punk and filled with rawly-screamed laments on and indictments of capitalism, the police, homelessness, drug addiction, and American culture. The last track Operation M.O.V.E. is a black metal influenced track about an 1985 incident in Philadelphia where police dropped a bomb on the radical African American MOVE organization, killing eleven MOVE members including five children. It also features a secret instrumental that brings the track length to over 10 minutes. The album was reissued by Fat Wreck Chords in 2015 with four previously unreleased tracks.
