It is listed by UNESCO as World Heritages Site, quote: "Lijiang is an exceptional ancient town set in a dramatic landscape which represents the harmonious fusion of different cultural traditions to produce an urban landscape of outstanding quality."

Where we stayed:
We slept at the Zen Garden Hotel. The room was a littlebit disappointing for the price, but you also pay for the great location in the middle of the old town! And eventually the bed was good. Cookies are amazing, hotel staff is friendly, and just walking out the door you walk into the old town. The common room is very beautiful.

Travel video about destination Lijiang in China.
Known as the Venice of the Far East, Lijiang is an historic old Chinese town in the northwest province of Yunnan. It was the centre of the Naxi, a Tibetan-Tobirmanic nation that had an impressive and unique culture. Dayan, Lijiang's old town, contains an intriguing variety of canals and waterways. It developed at the beginning of the 12th century, during the Late Song epoch.The picturesque centre of the old town of Dayan is an architectural jewel. Numerous streams and three rivers flow through the historic part of the town and there are several beautiful stone bridges that date back to the time of both the Ming and Qing dynasties.For over 470 wonderful years of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties each of the Naxi rulers came from the Mu family and for more than twenty-two generations life in and around Lijiang was led by this family until in 1723 the Qing Dynasty appointed a new government, thus the Mu era came to an end.

Fresh off of the bus and into the city! We arrived at Lijiang in the late afternoon and immediately made our way to the Ancient City by motorised cart for RMB 20 for each of us. The ride was quick and took less than 15 minutes.
Upon entering the Ancient City we made a point of first finding an inn to stay at for the night. We wandered through a few streets and charming alleys until we came upon a quaint inn which cost us RMB ... for the night. If we had booked online, we could have gotten the room for RMB 50! Nevertheless we were happy with the standard of accommodation and the price we paid. After checking in and setting our bags in the room, we decided to go into the city to eat and explore!

Lijiang
Lìjiāng (simplified Chinese: 丽江; traditional Chinese: 麗江) is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of Yunnan province, China. It has an area of 21,219 square kilometres (8,193 sq mi) and had a population of 1,244,769 at the 2010 census. Lijiang is famous for its UNESCO Heritage Site, the Old Town of Lijiang.
History
Lijiang City replaced the former administrative region of Lijiang Naxi Autonomous Prefecture. It was under the rule of the Mu family (木氏) local commanders (土司) during the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.
The Baisha Old Town was the political, commercial and cultural center for the local Naxi people and other ethnic groups for 400 years from the year 658 AD to 1107 AD. The Dabaoji Palace of the Baisha Fresco, very close to the Baisha Naxi Hand-made Embroidery Institute, was built in the year 658 AD in the Tang Dynasty (618 AD to 960 AD).
In ancient times, the Baisha Old Town used to be the center of silk embroidery in the southwest of China and the most important place of the Ancient Southern Silk Road, also called the Ancient Tea and Horse Road or Ancient tea route. The Ancient Southern Silk Road started from Burma, crossed Lijiang, Shangri-La County, Tibet, journeyed through Iran, the Fertile Crescent, and ultimately to the Mediterranean Sea.

Where we stayed:
We slept at the Zen Garden Hotel. The room was a littlebit disappointing for the price, but you also pay for the great location in the middle of the old town! And eventually the bed was good. Cookies are amazing, hotel staff is friendly, and just walking out the door you walk into the old town. The common room is very beautiful.

It was the centre of the Naxi, a Tibetan-Tobirmanic nation that had an impressive and unique culture. Dayan, Lijiang's old town, contains an intriguing variety of canals and waterways. It developed at the beginning of the 12th century, during the Late Song epoch.The picturesque centre of the old town of Dayan is an architectural jewel. Numerous streams and three rivers flow through the historic part of the town and there are several beautiful stone bridges that date back to the time of both the Ming and Qing dynasties.For over 470 wonderful years of the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties each of the Naxi rulers came from the Mu family and for more than twenty-two generations life in and around Lijiang was led by this family until in 1723 the Qing Dynasty appointed a new government, thus the Mu era came to an end.

Fresh off of the bus and into the city! We arrived at Lijiang in the late afternoon and immediately made our way to the Ancient City by motorised cart for RMB 20 for each of us. The ride was quick and took less than 15 minutes.
Upon entering the Ancient City we made a point of first finding an inn to stay at for the night. We wandered through a few streets and charming alleys until we came upon a quaint inn which cost us RMB ... for the night. If we had booked online, we could have gotten the room for RMB 50! Nevertheless we were happy with the standard of accommodation and the price we paid. After checking in and setting our bags in the room, we decided to go into the city to eat and explore!

Hi guys, this is the full Travel Vlog to Lijiang & Kunming, China. Backpacking for 7 Days. 3 days in Lijiang and 3 days in Kunming. Total cost for 2 person (I ate a lot haha & we spend a lot on food) around RM4500 for two person (include shopping). Lijiang is a great place to visit, (we should spend more time there). We only backpack refer to our itinery planner book (thanks to haja for your itinery) and just follow it. Try to always be flexible and be nice to people around us. I dont even understand chinese but we did it! We found the right place and able to explore the place. Rural life here is blessed with beautiful scenery and the landscape around Guilin is synonymous with the magnificence of the legendary Middle Empire. Numerous stalactites and stalagmites lie within the caves of the region's impressive mountains. Some of the caves, such as the Reed Cave, have in recent years been open to the public. Striking precipices and rock needles unite in a stunningly beautiful panorama full of glorious mystique. Here both wind and water have created a truly remarkable mountain world.In daytime the gravel banks along the shores of the Lijiang are frequented by farmers who lead their buffalo to drink from the river. The local cormorant fishermen are an even more exotic sight. They use captive water birds to attract fish and because their necks are secured to their master they are forced to submit their catch to him! It is not surprising that due to the overwhelming beauty of the surrounding mountains that this section of the Lijiang River is one of the most impressive natural landscapes in the whole of China.

We slept at the Zen Garden Hotel. The room was a littlebit disappointing for the price, but you also pay for the great location in the middle of the old town! And eventually the bed was good. Cookies are amazing, hotel staff is friendly, and just walking out the door you walk into the old town. The common room is very beautiful.
