Kunming (Mand. pronunciation [kʰwə́n.mjə̌ŋ]; Chinese: 昆明; pinyin: Kūnmíng) is the capital and largest city in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Known as Yunnan-Fu (云南府, Yúnnánfǔ) until the 1920s, today it is a prefecture-level city and the political, economic, communications and cultural centre of the province as well as the seat of the provincial government. Kunming is also called the Spring city due to its weather. The city is home to several universities, museums, galleries and other important economic, cultural, and educational institutions. The headquarters of many of Yunnan's large businesses are in Kunming. It was important during World War II as a Chinese military center, American air base, and transport terminus for the Burma Road. Located in the middle of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, Kunming is located at an altitude of 1,900 metres (6,234 feet) above sea level and at a latitude just north of the Tropic of Cancer. It covers an area of 21,473 square kilometres (8,291 sq mi) and its urban area covers 2,622 square kilometres (1,012 sq mi). Kunming has population of 6,432,212, including 3,583,429 in the built-up area made up of 4 urban and 1 suburban districts, and is located at the northern edge of the large Lake Dian, surrounded by temples and lake-and-limestone hill landscapes.

After an amazing year in the city of Kunming in South of China, I had to make a short movie about it to share with you all my experience. It shakes, it's ugly & not professional at all but who cares? The video shows the awing moments of how a group of assailants armed with knives attacked civilians at a railway station in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province. Hi guys, this is the full Travel Vlog to Lijiang & Kunming, China. Backpacking for 7 Days. 3 days in Lijiang and 3 days in Kunming. Total cost for 2 person (I ate a lot haha & we spend a lot on food) around RM4500 for two person (include shopping). Lijiang is a great place to visit, (we should spend more time there). We only backpack refer to our itinery planner book (thanks to haja for your itinery) and just follow it. Try to always be flexible and be nice to people around us. I dont even understand chinese but we did it! We found the right place and able to explore the place. The Stone Forest "Shilin" is a notable set of limestone formations located in Shilin Yi County, Yunnan Province, China, approximately 120 km (75 mi) from Kunming. The tall rocks seem to emanate from the ground in the manner of stalagmites, with many looking like petrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone.
