Himalayas
The Himalayas or Himalaya (/ˌhɪməˈleɪ.ə/ or /hɪˈmɑːləjə/; Sanskrit: हिमालय, from Sanskrit hima (snow) + ālaya (dwelling), literally meaning "abode of snow") is a mountain range in the Indian subcontinent which separates the Indo-Gangetic Plain from the Tibetan Plateau. This range is home to nine of the ten highest peaks on Earth, including the highest above sea level, Mount Everest. The Himalayas have profoundly shaped the cultures of South Asia. Many Himalayan peaks are sacred in both Buddhism and Hinduism.
The Himalayas are bordered on the north by the Tibetan Plateau, on the south by the Indo-Gangetic Plain, on the northwest by the Karakoram and Hindu Kush ranges, and on the east by the Indian states of Sikkim, the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. The Hindu Kush, Karakoram and Himalayas form together the "Hindu Kush Himalayan Region" (HKH). The western anchor of the Himalayas—Nanga Parbat—lies just south of the northernmost bend of the Indus River, while the eastern anchor—Namcha Barwa—is situated just west of the great bend of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. The Himalayas span five countries: India, Nepal, Bhutan, China (Tibet), and Pakistan, with the first three countries having sovereignty over most of the range.

Built between 1879 and 1881, the railway is about 78 kilometres (48 mi) long. Its elevation level varies from about 100 metres (328 ft) at New Jalpaiguri to about 2,200 metres (7,218 ft) at Darjeeling. Four modern diesel locomotives handle most of the scheduled services; however the daily Kurseong-Darjeeling return service and the daily tourist trains from Darjeeling to Ghum (India's highest railway station) are handled by the vintage British-built B Class steam locomotive, DHR 778.

Secluded and relatively untouched, and a hidden treasure of mankind, Sikkim, for centuries a segregated and independent Buddhist kingdom situated on the edge of the Himalayas, possesses more than two hundred monasteries. Just two kilometres from Pelling an impressive monastery is perched at the end of a ridge high above the Rangit River, Pemayangtse Gompa. It was founded in the seventeenth century by Lhatsun Chenpo and belongs to the Nyingmapa Order. A funeral in the Mangru Monastery: with music and prayers and the participation of the entire community. The few monks of the tiny monastery pray for the deceased and the villagers receive food and drink next to the spot where the body has been cremated. The route to Paro Dzong travels along a valley to Dungtse Lhakhang, a small temple that is shaped like a Tibetan chorten. The fortified Paro Monastery is one of the most beautiful buildings in Bhutan, a mighty fortress that once controlled the route by which the Tibetan armies repeatedly invaded. From curve to curve the Taktshang Monastery comes into view, secured within the steep rock of the world famous, Tiger's Nest. Flags flutter in the cool breeze and prayer wheels rotate at almost three thousand metres above sea level. We arrive at this holy place that is situated between Heaven and Earth and where Guru Rinpoche landed triumphantly on the back of a flying tigress. The kingdoms on the roof of the world continue to captivate and inspire along with their unique monasteries and rich monastic culture.

In the past, Pokhara was an important trading link between India and Tibet but the trading of salt and wool came to an end after Tibet closed its doors to the outside world.Kathmandu is a melting pot of both race and religion, a metropolis in the heart of the Kingdom of Nepal, a country of snow-covered mountains inhabited by the gods. Kumari Chowk is the residence of the living goddess, Kumari, who is duly selected from childhood. She is not allowed to leave until puberty as her task is it affirm the king his power. Traditional ceremonies are celebrated throughout the year such as the Festival Of The Children that is a symbol of fertility and sexual purity. Patan is Nepal’s second largest city and has retained much of its original character due to its three hundred monasteries and temples. It is also one of the oldest settlements in Kathmandu Valley and during the 15th century was the capital of one of three kingdoms. Bhaktapur is the third ancient regal city of the thirty kilometre long Kathmandu Valley that has always been a prosperous trading route between China, Tibet and India. Through the golden gate of Sundhoka is the old royal palace complex. The Torana above the gate is richly gilded and features the ten-armed goddess, Taleju, and her loyal guards. Located on a 1,400 metre high hill, Swayanbunath is a Buddhist monastery complex and one of the most interesting sights in Nepal. The country’s oldest stupa dates back to the 5th century and is entered from an easterly direction up a staircase that contains three hundred and sixty-five steps. Endless rows of prayer mills and religious images are the instruments of the people’s deep faith. Hidden in a canyon and located on top of a mountain creek, Dakshinkali stands guard over the valley. This wonderful place is dedicated to the bloody goddess, Kali. The customs of the people in the ‘Kingdom On The Roof Of The World’ may seem somewhat strange. But this land of jungle and eternal snow has developed according to its own rich traditions and beliefs. Like magic!

Un po’ di tempo fa ho scoperto il sale rosa dell’Imalaya, più sano e meno dannoso del sale comune, in quanto non soggetto a processi di raffinazione e povero di sodio. Ho voluto condirci questo semplice riso caprese, piatto veloce e fresco. Vi propongo la ricetta “base”, semplice e con pochi ingredienti, ma ciò non toglie che potete arricchirla con quello che più vi piace: tonno, acciughe, olive, rucola…Tutto a freddo! Ho utilizzato un cuociriso per microonde, davvero comodissimo che il 14 minuti permette la cotture del riso a puntino, senza doverlo girare continuamente. La cosa che apprezzo di più di questo sistema è che, utilizzando un riso parboiled, rimane al dente e cremoso con la quantità giusta di amido. Un po’ di tempo fa ho scoperto il sale rosa dell’Imalaya, più sano e meno dannoso del sale comune, in quanto non soggetto a processi di raffinazione e povero di sodio. Ho voluto condirci questo semplice riso caprese, piatto veloce e fresco.
Vi propongo la ricetta “base”, semplice e con pochi ingredienti, ma ciò non toglie che potete arricchirla con quello che più vi piace: tonno, acciughe, olive, rucola…Tutto a freddo!
Ho utilizzato un cuociriso per microonde, davvero comodissimo che il 14 minuti permette la cotture del riso a puntino, senza doverlo girare continuamente. La cosa che apprezzo di più di questo sistema è che, utilizzando un riso parboiled, rimane al dente e cremoso con la quantità giusta di amido. Nella ciotola in plastica si mette il riso, l’acqua e un po’ di sale (per 250 gr di riso, 600 ml di acqua), chiudo con i due coperchi e inforno al microonde alla massima potenza per 14 minuti.
Finito il tempo, apro i coperchi e mescolo con l’apposita spatola e lascio riposare per un paio di minuti, l’acqua evaporerà ancora leggermente. Per questa ricetta il riso va usato freddo, quindi lo trasferisco in una boule di vetro, altrimenti si può condire a piacimento. Nel procedimento della ricetta, comunque, trovate tutte le foto.
Se non avete un cuociriso, potete procedere tranquillamente con la cottura tradizionale.

Un po’ di tempo fa ho scoperto il sale rosa dell’Imalaya, più sano e meno dannoso del sale comune, in quanto non soggetto a processi di raffinazione e povero di sodio. Ho voluto condirci questo semplice riso caprese, piatto veloce e fresco.
Vi propongo la ricetta “base”, semplice e con pochi ingredienti, ma ciò non toglie che potete arricchirla con quello che più vi piace: tonno, acciughe, olive, rucola…Tutto a freddo!

Als der Pilot Gerold Biner von der Air Zermatt und der Rettungsspezialist Bruno Jelk im Frühling 2010 in Katmandu landeten, wussten sie nicht, was auf sie zukommen würde. Ihr Ziel war und ist es, gemeinsam mit einem Team der nepalesischen Helikopterfirma Fishtail Air eine Rettungsstation im Himalaya aufzubauen. Dazu müssen sie in Höhen fliegen, in die sich bisher niemand gewagt hat. Ihre Eurocopter B3 sind nur bis 7000 Meter zugelassen. Die Winde und die Höhenluft machen solche Einsätze unberechenbar. Der Helikopter kann wegen der dünnen Luft nicht mehr schweben, und die Piloten und Bergretter müssen mit Sauerstoff ausgerüstet sein, sonst drohen Ohnmacht und Tod.

Some of the world's major rivers, the Indus, the Ganges, and the Tsangpo-Brahmaputra, rise in the Himalayas, and their combined drainage basin is home to some 600 million people. The Himalayas have profoundly shaped the cultures of South Asia; many Himalayan peaks are sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism.
Lifted by the subduction of the Indian tectonic plate under the Eurasian Plate, the Himalayan range runs, west-northwest to east-southeast, in an arc 2,400 kilometres (1,500 mi) long. Its western anchor, Nanga Parbat, lies just south of the northernmost bend of Indus river, its eastern anchor, Namcha Barwa, just west of the great bend of the Tsangpo river. The range varies in width from 400 kilometres (250 mi) in the west to 150 kilometres (93 mi) in the east.
The flora and fauna of the Himalayas vary with climate, rainfall, altitude, and soils. The climate ranges from tropical at the base of the mountains to permanent ice and snow at the highest elevations. The amount of yearly rainfall increases from west to east along the southern front of the range. This diversity of altitude, rainfall and soil conditions combined with the very high snow line supports a variety of distinct plant and animal communities. The extremes of high altitude (low atmospheric pressure) combined with extreme cold favor extremophile organisms.
The unique floral and faunal wealth of the Himalayas is undergoing structural and compositional changes due to climate change. The increase in temperature is shifting various species to higher elevations. The oak forest is being invaded by pine forests in the Garhwal Himalayan region. There are reports of early flowering and fruiting in some tree species, especially rhododendron, apple and box myrtle. The highest known tree species in the Himalayas is Juniperus tibetica located at 4,900 metres (16,080 ft) in Southeastern Tibet.

This trek follows through the Southern Humla with incredible views of foothills, hills, mountains, lush forests to arid lands. The trail leads along the Karnali River, the longest river of Nepal touching various village settlements of ethnicities like Khasas, Thakuris, Brahmins, and Byansis. It ends at Rara Lake, the biggest lake in Nepal which lies inside the Rara National Park. The area is a home for hundreds of species of trees, plants, birds and animals. This trek can also be done in reverse starting from Mugu or Jumla upwards.
