Robert Harvey (born Robert James Harvey in Oakland, California in 1951) is a literary scholar and academic. He is Distinguished Professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook where he teaches comparative literature, literatures written in French, philosophy, and theory. His research and publications are mostly concerned with the interpenetrations of literary and philosophical discourses.
He has written on Samuel Beckett, Primo Levi, Jean-François Lyotard, Jean-Paul Sartre, Marguerite Duras, Marcel Duchamp and Michel Deguy and has translated Lyotard, Deguy, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Paul Ricœur, and other French thinkers. His most recent books are De l’exception à la règle (on USA PATRIOT Act) and Les Écrits de Marguerite Duras (Éditions de l’Imec, 2009), and Witnessness: Beckett, Levi, Dante and the Foundations of Ethics (Continuum, 2010). Harvey is one of several scholars who prepared the Pléiade edition of the complete works of Marguerite Duras (volumes I and II were published in October 2011 and volumes III and IV in May 2014).
The Music were an English alternative rock band, formed in Kippax, Leeds in 1999. Comprising Robert Harvey (vocals, guitar), Adam Nutter (lead guitar), Stuart Coleman (bass) and Phil Jordan (drums), the band came to prominence with the release of their debut album, The Music, in 2002. The band released two further studio albums, Welcome to the North (2004) and Strength in Numbers (2008), before parting ways in 2011.
The Music all met at Brigshaw High School, except Phil Jordan who went to Garforth, and began playing in 1999 as Insense. In 2001 the song "Take the Long Road and Walk It" circulated as a demo before being released by Fierce Panda as a 1000-copies-only single, a rarity from its day of release. Around this time the NME and Steve Lamacq were describing them as the best unsigned band in Britain. The band were quickly signed by Hut, who released their first EP You Might as Well Try to Fuck Me.
In 2002, following another EP (The People) they released their eponymous début album which reached No. 4 in the UK album charts. Their début single was re-issued as part of a two-disc set to promote the album, and reached No. 14 in the singles chart. Two further singles from the album, "Getaway" and "The Truth is No Words" reached No. 26 and No. 18 respectively. June 2003 saw them filling in for an absent Zwan on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival.
Robert Harvey may refer to:
Mental health is a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of a mental disorder; it is the "psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment". From the perspective of positive psychology or holism, mental health may include an individual's ability to enjoy life, and create a balance between life activities and efforts to achieve psychological resilience. According to World Health Organization (WHO) mental health includes "subjective well-being, perceived self-efficacy, autonomy, competence, intergenerational dependence, and self-actualization of one's intellectual and emotional potential, among others." WHO further states that the well-being of an individual is encompassed in the realization of their abilities, coping with normal stresses of life, productive work and contribution to their community. However, cultural differences, subjective assessments, and competing professional theories all affect how "mental health" is defined.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2016, Noisey are running series of short films about music and mental health. In the first of our short films about music and mental health, we meet two musicians who found fame and fortune in the UK indie scene of the early 2000’s: Bill Ryder-Jones from The Coral and Rob Harvey from The Music. Both had strikingly similar experiences of suffering from mental health problems at the peak of their careers, and in this short film they explain how the music industry both exacerbated their problems and helped them overcome their struggle. This film is part of The Noisey Guide to Music and Mental Health. You can read more from this series right here: http://noisey.vice.com/en_uk/columns/the-noisey-guide-to-music-and-mental-health .
