Coburg’s Rory Lehmann returns to Vermont in the Eastern Football League

ANOTHER VFL player will return to Vermont in 2017, with Coburg’s Rory Lehmann to line up with his former club.

Lehmann, who played 28 VFL game in his two seasons at Piranha Park, is the third former Coburg player to return to Vermont this off-season after it was announced last month Lachie Johns and Kyle Staples would go back to the Eagles next year.

Vermont coach Harmit Singh said the tall defender, who was a part of Coburg’s leadership group with Johns this year, would be a welcome addition to the Eagles’ backline.

“He definitely had a big decision to make and I think he felt it was the right time to come back to the club,” Singh said.

“There was probably that temptation I’m sure to go again and play at Coburb with Germo (Peter German), who is a great coach.

“He made that decision to come back to us and we’re more than happy to have him back.

“He’ll provide much leadership, as well as being a terrific player as well.”

It follows the announcement emerging Eagles ruckman Liam Wale-Buxton will try his hand with VFL outfit Northern Blues next year, while defender and Northcote cricketer Matthew Willcocks will also miss 2017 to play cricket in England.

“Liam had a great year with us coming third in our senior best and fairest,” Singh said.

“Knowing (coach) Josh Fraser really well, I’m excited by the opportunity Liam has at the Northern Blues to learn from him and their program.

“It should be a good opportunity for Liam.”
