Perth cops receive noise complaint...then join in couple's backyard wedding

Two police officers have shown their softer side after being called out to a noise complaint at a backyard wedding reception near Port Kennedy on Saturday.

Newlyweds Stuart and Stacey Street were celebrating their wedding with friends when two police officers arrived at their home around 10pm after receiving a complaint.

But instead of shutting the party down, the officers saw the couple had done everything right to inform their neighbours about their celebration and decided to let the party continue.

Ms Street later used Facebook to thank the officers, who happily posed with her in a photo.

"We had a wedding party last night, did the notice of an event online with local police station, put letters in all of the neighbours' letterboxes giving them a heads up," she said.

"[We] even had neighbours offer their lawns for parking and had notes put back in our letterbox saying congratulations and thanks for letting them know.

"Only to have the same person who called up the police last week about the people playing basketball at 5am in our street, call the cops on us at 10pm!"

Ms Street went on to say the police officers were understanding of the situation.

"I showed them my notice of event, they clearly saw it wasn't a crazy party, told us not to stress about complaint, then got in the photobooth with me," she said.

"Good job to the police for following up on a phone call but really, if you had been given a note with the heads up why still call the police at 10pm, what a waste of their time!"

The bride's post received a wave of support online with many commending the officers and wishing the Streets a happy marriage.

"Great community spirit from police and neighbours, the way it should be," wrote one.

"I am sure the cops were delighted to have such a happy response to their visit. Much more pleasant than some of the other horrid tasks I am sure they have to deal with that's for sure," wrote another.

It's not the first time police officers have shown their romantic side.

In December 2015 three off-duty police officers helped a Perth man, Luke, pull off a memorable proposal at Kings Park

The officers approached the couple and asked Luke for his ID as he "looked like an individual who was wanted for questioning".

His girlfriend, Lara, looked on in disbelief as police asked him to empty his pockets. One of the officers then asked him to open a box that had been in his trousers.

Luke then dropped to one knee as the police retired to a respectful distance to watch Luke pop the question, to which Lara said yes.
