9 new snack trends to discover now
Whether it’s the 3pm slump or the midnight munchies, a good snack is sometimes all you need. Here are 9 new snack ideas we think you’ll love.
Sweet meets savoury
Sweet and savoury are no longer at opposite ends of the spectrum, with many snacks blurring the lines between the two. Made with PHILADELPHIA Original Spreadable Cream Cheese™, this dip is a unique and lighter twist on regular carrot cake. It’ll even have you enjoying an extra serving of vegetables!
Dates (in almost anything)
If there’s one fruit that’s back in the limelight this year, it’s dates. Often used instead of refined sugar to add sweetness to a variety of snacks, you’ll find dates in everything from energy balls to brownies and slices. For a super-quick snack fix, we like the sweet-creamy-salty sensation of dates filled with PHILADELPHIA Original Spreadable Cream Cheese™ and wrapped in prosciutto.
Lettuce ‘bread’
Lettuce is having a moment. No longer confined to salads, Aussie snackers are recognising how versatile a few crisp leaves can be. Used as a wrap or finger food base, lettuce makes a great low-carb alternative to bread. These salmon lettuce cups, made using PHILADELPHIA Original Spreadable Cream Cheese™ mixed with horseradish, tick all the right snack boxes: crunch, protein, creaminess and a bit of zing.
Popsicles
The frozen food trend has transformed snack time. Now when you feel like a popsicle, you don’t have to reach for an ice cream. Try freezing your smoothies or make this yogurt and muesli popsicle and enjoy it for breakfast. Ice cream for brekkie? Now that’s a win.
Bliss balls with a twist
One of our all-time favourite snacks, bliss balls no longer follow the same rules. It’s time to get creative and make something new. Our current faves are savoury bliss balls (yes, it’s a thing) or fresh fresh fruit bliss balls, like these banana snacks made with PHILADELPHIA Original Spreadable Cream Cheese™.
Bagel art
When it comes to snacking, it’s not all about flavour. Snacks also have to look appetising, especially when you’re making food for kids. Toast your bagel, spread over some PHILADELPHIA Original Spreadable Cream Cheese™ and then use fresh fruit and vegies to make faces, rainbows or any colourful creation you like.
Green popcorn
Buttered popcorn might be a cinema staple, but we’re loving just how easy it is to make wild new variations of it at home. Create your own spice mix to sprinkle on top, or give yourself a superfood kick by adding roasted kale, chilli and lime.
Mini foods
Snack foods have gotten smaller, but that doesn’t mean you have to eat less. The miniature trend has moved from desserts to snacks and it seems the smaller the size, the more we like it. Even the Aussie cob loaf dip has had a mini-makeover. These individual spinach and PHILLY™ cream cheese cob loaf dips are perfect for entertaining season.
Roasted pulses and nuts
It started with tamari almonds, but now we’re all going crazy for roasted chickpeas and even oven-baked edamame. To add a bit of crunch to your snack times, just roast up some chickpeas with paprika, cumin and curry powder. Beats potato chips every time.
