Spectre is sloppier than other recent Bonds, but it also feels like it's exhausted the idea that fueled the franchise's relaunch -- darker and more realistic can only last so long when it's paired...
Anthony Lane
I regard it as a ravishing exercise in near-despair, with Bond beset by the suspicion that, were he to desist, both his character and his cause would be unmasked as a void. Killing is his living,...

Dazzles early and fizzles late...Bond is not Batman; he does not need an origin story.

There are signs of Bond bloat within many of the action sequences - it must be hard to trim such extravagant footage - but they are at least partly overcome by an increase in levity.
Peter Rainer
If one of the most successful and long-running franchises in movie history wants to keep pumping, it's once again time to change the formula.
Tom Long
For the most part, it's efficient-enough Bond fare - overlong car chases, beautiful women in eternal danger, crazy stunts, suave cool under fire. Nice fitting suits.

After 3 dreadful and disappointing James Bond films. We can now say it's long time 007 slogan again ."JAMES BOND IS BACK". This is the best Bond film since the epic "Die Another Day". In 2006 the producers of the Bond franchise decided to reboot the series and that proved to be a mistake. I know a lot of people enjoyed the dreary long and pointless films.that kicked off the Daniel Craig era but, I hated "Casino Royale film so much that I dubbed it as the worst Bond movie since "On her Majesty's Secret Service" I didn't waste the 12 dollars to see "Quantum of Solace" instead I waited until it showed up in the 5 dollar bin ant Wal - Mart. Even then I was disappointed. "Skyfall" has it's moments but it's still not worthy of multiple views like the Connery , Moore and Brosnan Bonds. "Spectre" revived the key elements of what makes a Bond film great. Adventure, action, beautiful locale and beautiful women. The whole reboot idea was dumb and had "Spectre" been another disappointment then the franchise would have been lost
I think this is better than most of the other Craig bond movies. Mendes seems a better quality director and the story flows a little easier than the usual clumsy "bond finds a clue so he goes there", however there is a formula for these films, so its a little hard for him to leave the track and not have a car chase and say "shaken not stirred" at least once. Craig seems a little worn down, but maybe that's on purpose. But it makes it more interesting knowing it may be his last. (hopefully not) Some have said this is too long, and last half hour does seem to stretch, but I would say last half hour is very good and maybe a bit of globe trotting could have been cut in middle instead. Themes of surveillance pop up to make it contemporary and relevant & a tacked on back story pops up to connect dots and previous Craig films, but as a stand alone film, it definitely rises above qos and at least equals skyfall and cr. Also questions of his vocation arise, which seem odd. Watched in series, its a nice conclusion to Craigs other bond outings and at times reminded me a little of 'the dark knight' lite. Not Perfect, but definitely a good addition to the Bond universe!
Daniel Craig does an admirable job in the role of James Bond along with some strong performances by the rest of the cast, however the writing kind of takes the wind out of the sails this time around. The actors apparently have very little to work with. Sadly, the dialogue in many places is so weak that it ruins potentially good scenes and in key places even obscures the plot. While the action sequences are predictably "over the top" and exciting, the pacing is uneven, making many moments in the film, even "suspenseful" ones, feel like they are dragging. The director takes every opportunity to show off the fact that the film was actually shot at a variety of international locations by doing extended 'walking' or traveling shots that move through these locations. Sadly, it feels like he gets distracted by the scenery so much it seems more like we're watching a travelogue than an action film. And last but not least, the color in virtually every scene is desaturated and adjusted into a virtual monochrome. It's just a tiny color stop away from looking like a black and white film with every shot shaded into one single color (blue, red, yellow, etc).
A perfect send-off for Daniel Craig's Bond (If he decides not to do a fifth OO7 adventure), as this cleverly links the three previous films to this one. Even though a lot of it seems drawn out, it still doesn't disappoint. The only complaint this former free-lance film reviewer has is that there weren't more scenes between Bond and his former-foster-brother-turned-SPECTRE-Head Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Wonderfully played by two-time Oscar Winner Christoph Waltz), and not enough screen time for Monica Bellucci (IRREVERSIBLE), who would have been the film's sacrificial lamb (There are none in SPECTRE). The romance between Bond and leading lady also seemed a bit rushed. Even though many complained that Sam Smith's Oscar-Winning song "Writing's on the Wall" is a tad "wimpy," I disagree, as it's more about Bond wrestling with a choice of doing his duty for queen and country, or giving it all up to find some much needed happiness. I was also pleased that the regular supporting cast had more screen time. Ralph Finnes ("M"), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Ben Whishaw (*Q"), all play important parts, the latter two risking their own careers. I also loved Judi Dench's cameo.
What a waste of time This has to be by far the worst Bond movie in the last 20 years. Matter of fact , it is so bad I just came back to this review to update it. I mean they even got the bond girl from Tom Cruise Ghost Protocol. Even John Wick was better, Jack Reacher and UNCLE boys. I mean Bond is basically finished, will be relegated to some B movie semi-religious un-original regurgitations. Overall, all of those movies are really a waste of time, just addictive distractions sucking away your energy and productive capacity.
"Spectre" is my least favorite movie in Daniel Craig's 007 role. From the opening scene until the end of the movie, this one is definitely not as good as his earlier works. For instance, the opening scenes in the previous movies were jaw-droppingly good. The opening scene in this one is pretty plebeian. Actually, the bit with the helicopter was pretty dumb. And, of course, all the bits in the movie where Bond leaves the bad guy irritated and alive behind him were annoying (the rule of thumb seems to be that the more important the bad guy, the more likely Bond will let him live). So, overall, I'm not that impressed with it and can only rate it at an OK 3 stars out of 5.
Will not go down in history as a Bond classic Trying too hard to be a Bond film if that makes sense. Too many stereotypical Bond moments shoe horned into the script; many of which seem out of context with the story. The film doesn't flow naturally, all a bit forced. That last 2 Daniel Craig Bond movies were far better. I generally like watching Bond films 2 or 3 times, but I'll certainly give this one a miss.
Look.....here"s the deal.....For the Daniel Craig Bond flicks I absolutely loved Casino Royale......It"s a movie you can watch every so often.... Then came Quantum Of Solace.... The opening car chase scene in surround sound with a subwoofer is fantastic and worth having on blu ray just for that reason alone. I didn't hate the movie, but it wasn't Casino Royale......same as The Godfather 3 isn't The Godfather 1 or 2....in fact I like Quantum way better than Godfather 3.....just sayin... Then they start teasing Skyfall, many years later....there was the whole issue with the production company and that pushed the movie back a couple of years or whatever, and they hyped Skyfall like it was going to win the "Best Everything" award.... There are things I like in it, but..... I don't know....they made it seem like he was some 70 year old guy restarting and the whole house deal wasn't all that clear to me....I remember going, "Oh.....it"s a house....hmmmm".....I like Q.....Liked Silva....liked the new M......Just didn't grab me enough for the hype it got. Now on to Spectre..... I gotta say, I do like it.... Give this one a shot.
First scene was exciting and well shot, but that was unfortunately the strongest sequence. The remainder of the plot was a bit incoherent. There were too many instances where Bond was able to perform impossible feats (improbable is fine, and expected). He came over as more of a superhero than a secret agent. It's probably no bad thing if this is Daniel Craig's last Bond film, as the franchise is due another refresh. Casino Royale was refreshing because it was grittier, darker and more violent than the preceding incarnation, but Spectre had Roger Moore-level hokeyness and implausibility, but none of the fun; it also took the violence even further.
This installment was not nearly as enjoyable as previous ones. Relationships are what provide the sense of tension and drama in action sequences. Almost none of the interactions in Spectre last long enough to care about what happens to the other person. The short 24hr Google Play rental period instead of the standard 2 or 3 days was an extra insult.
One of my least favorite Bonds films. Slow, boring with some laughable lame moments. I'll go with the idea that Bond is a super spy that can outfly a fighter pilot whom's full-time job is flying - that's just Bond. But shoot a helicopter half a mile away, one handed, using a pistol, standing in a moving speed boat?! Stuff like that took me out of the movie ... it just didn't make sense. Nothing else was particular memorable.
Worst Bond movie ever I thought the previous 2 movies with Talentless Craig were bad but this one takes the cherry. Who do people like him and Ice Cube pay to act in big pictures? And most importantly why?
Highly ambitious wrap-up (?) of Craig's hugely successful run as Bond. The action and cinematography are spectacular and Thomas Newman delivers another great score that may be even better than Skyfall's. It takes more than one viewing to get it all for sure, but this to me just highlights what director Mendes has brought to the series: story and substance, along with all of the usual Bond tropes and "fun" of being a serial action series. Even if you're not crazy about it, they gave us a good reason for all the super-villainy and credit must be given for the try. I enjoyed it much better the second time and understood where they were going with it; I'll also understand if Craig is finished with the role after this one, but I'll miss terribly what he and his new cast have brought to the series.
Let Down How they went from Skyfall to this, is baffling. The whole pace feels off. SPOILER! How in the hell would someone from his childhood be the bad guy responsible for all that went down in the past 3 films. Get it from redbox and form your own opinion before dedicating to buy this movie.
James Bond, more like James Boring 💤 This movie is such a snooze that you may quite literally fall asleep in the movie. This has no comparison to the previous film. This movie was so dull because all Bond did in the movie was walk around, no gadgets nothing just go here and there. Don't waste your money.
Bond isn't at his best anymore. I was expecting big things from this movie but unfortunately they've gone back to fuddy Duddy bond. I hated pierce brosnan as bond thought his films were embarrassing to watch. So Daniel Craig was a revelation at first with a more maverick style bond. But I found this to be back to the old style of bond movie's. I wish the directors and producers would have been forward thinking for fresh ideas instead of looking back at old bond. So yet again I was rolling my eye's watching this with embarrassment.
4.1 Stars?? This is one of the worst Bond movies ever. They had one of the coolest villains to present and totally dropped the ball...I found myself not caring about anything that was going on half way through the movie. Hopefully he does one more and doesn't leave us with this garbage.
#DanielCraig007Forever Daniel Craig is still as handsome as ever! Really good in my opinion. A bit long, but, it's worth it! Bond's still up to his old habits, though. Yes... Women, drinking, Q tries so hard to get him to drink a protein shake but he dumps it out when Q walks away... I would recommend skipping the song. It is really BAD!
I guess I'm not a Bond fan Maybe it's just me, but I just didn't enjoy it. I played on my phone and let the movie become background noise. I had 75% off for a movie rental and picked this one. Something about the whole flow of the movie, just didn't make sense to me.
Just watch Casino Royale again and save yourself from the disappointment The worst of Daniel Craig's Bond movies.... Bad acting, big holes in plot, and boring most of the time. Casino Royale was so much better!
Unbelievable and not worth the 2:21hr screen time Bad acting. Bad plot development. Unbelievable that it was a let down 👎Daniel Craig was weary and stoic in this film. Monica Belluci played such a tiny part not worth the supposed controversy!
Soul-less contrived disappointment A huge let down. Action scenes are pretty good but oddly soul-less. It barrels along nicely for a while with good one liners for Bond and decent roles for M, Q and Moneypenny. But the final act is simply terrible, with a contrived and unwelcome "twist" which utterly undoes any previous good work. Overblown and boring.
Substandard going downhill Since Casino Royal each preceding Bond film has been a little bit weaker than the last and this in my humble opinion was the weakest. I mean Casino Royal was phenomenal it really breathed new life into the bond franchise, but it's been a downward spiral which each film since then. Everything that can be done or will be done with 007 has been done... to death. Other then killing the dude off? To me The Thrill is Gone.
Mindless action movie I like a good action movie as much as the next guy, but there has to be at least some plot. This was a poor movie. It was like XXX with Daniel Craig instead of Vin Diesel. You could've written the entire script on a fortune cookie. Cliche and less than smart. If you want a mindless explosions and action this is your movie, but if you're looking for smart dialogue and a compelling plot line look else where.
Boring, slow and lazy Deatroys an entire enemy lair with a couple of bullets, pretty much sums up the overall lazy approach to making this film. Sam mendes and daniel craig; if you dont want to make another bond film then dont and save us the disappoint
Too long And not in a good way. The film dragged on and on. Daniel Craig's performance gave a very clear indicator when I watched it that he didn't want to be there. Bautista said exactly one line, seems a waste. Another waste? The villain, I can't remember his name while I'm typing this but again a highly talented actor with very poor direction.
Out of character The opening scene was impressive and memorable. There were lots of good action scenes. I was a little confused about the plot because I hadn't seen the previous movie. What was really strange was that Bond fell in love with a woman after being with her for only a few days, which seemed very out of character. Also, why did they go to the middle of the desert?
Typical James Bond Movie I mean I'm not saying it's bad but It's kind of getting old with the shooting constantly and making out with every girl he sees. To be honest with you, I fell asleep for 20 minutes of this movie. Otherwise if you are into that kind of thing definitely for you
Barely 2 stars, such a disappointment I get that is a Bond film, but it barely held my attention, no suspense, and carted nothing for the seemingly hap hazard connections between characters.
Trying too hard I think. The timelines are all confused with the original books and there is that X factor missing from this film that makes a good film great. If I were the execs at Aston Martin I would be seriously dissapointed with the screen time given to their purpose designed and made car. It's a trillion times better than the lowlights of the Roger Moore farce era but SPECTRE didn't live up to the hype, I was dissapointed. Overall it just okay n my opinion. and I am being generous
The worst Bond movie I've seen. The "twist" idea behind the villain is downright insulting to audiences and the "romance" makes even a Bond fan groan. The opening sequence is the only part worth watching.
Actually. Rather disappointing. Cast was OK. Story was OK, but unfolding was cold and too steady. I am a big Bond fan - including Daniel Craig. I loved Casino Royale, only just liked Quantum Solace, loved Skyfall and again just found this one OK. This movie has no emotional build up. No grant locations. The interference with Blofeld was ever so quick not measuring up to the importance of Blofelds role as the "Author of all [..of Bonds..] pain." It is trying to be very serious but - for me - fails to deliver the depths. Since the director is the same as for the last movie I was expecting greater scale.
The latest Bond movie was quite good. I have enjoyed how Craig's journey as Bond has provided us with a peek behind curtain of James Bond's life. Each of the Craig 007 films has provided piece after piece of the puzzle that is James Bond. This film managed to provide some of the final pieces. With these pieces we are able to better understand what makes 007 tick. With all of these pieces we are able to better understand why Bond finds it difficult to love again. This is why he chooses instead to avoid potential heartbreak and pain by sleeping with the various women he encounters. He usually only tries either acquire intel from them or use them as a brief distraction. This also causes him to be more focused on the mission at hand. But it also leads to him trusting others far less, if at all.
Decent action, but it's hurt by the lack of a strong villain and story. The different acts in the movie felt like they were spliced together without any real sense of direction. Pacing also kind of sucked, with the story moving way too quickly in some parts and far too slowly in others. But most importantly, it feels too much like of a rehash of Quantum of Solace, which was already the weakest of all the Craig Bond films.
Awful The opening theme is enough to make you wish a meteor would fall and kill you, then the pacing, plot, cheesy lines and lack of Christoph Waltz makes you wonder what Sam Mendez was smoking. What could have been a superb follow-up to Skyfall (best Bond film ever) became one of the worst Bond films since he had to become Japanese.
Possibly the lamest James Bond ever. Even the villain was a dud...more like a spoiled brat. Now I understand why Daniel Craig said he'd “rather slash my wrists” than play 007 again.
Forever Bond Like the way how the producers are remaking the bond franchise trying to write it to fit our own modern times ( 21 Century ). Love all the news doors they are opening and the big gaps they are closing. This is why the bond film will never get old and out of date. Keep expanding and bringing in the new ideas. Bond will be forever. Forever Bond!
Back To Bond Basics This movie had everything we've come to expect from the Bond franchise. Over-the-top opening, gadgets, sexy cars, henchmen. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars: sub-par Bond "song" & I really wish main villan was flushed out a bit more. All in all though, this movie is Bond through and through.
I love James Bond movies but... But this one felt like it was lazy in some parts. Wish we saw more Christoph Waltz. I will continue to be a fan. I could do without the love scenes, the women just fall in love in he's presence?
Boring. So boring. I am getting tired of all this... "What if this was in the real world" take on things. Movies are meant to be larger than life. This one just went on and on.
